Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

most of the tactics I see you guys propose can be roughly summarized as "if there's more than one of them, Starshine. If there's only one of them, CS. If they get close, Core Purge". Effective, sure, but varied that is not.
Um. I'm curious as to what exactly you expect us to do other then use our tools the way they were designed. Starshine is an anti-army spell so we use it to fight armies, Celestial Severance is an anti-tank spell (mega damage + Unstoppable) so obviously it should be used on anyone tough enough to try and solo Nepgear. Core Purge meanwhile has almost never been used outside of the most recent mission and that was only because it's the only method Nepgear has for attacking Control Seals without effecting the host. Purifier Beam/Panzer Blade are our default weapon so generally Nepgear uses them automatically and recently they had too much splash to be worth using.

It's also worth noting that just a couple updates ago we did break this pattern by using Starshine against White Soul as an attempt to counter her dodging. It didn't work but we were using it outside of it's anti-army role by attempting to leverage it's AoE effects to counter a dodge character.

But generally speaking Nepgear's various weapons/spells/abilities are quite simple and straightforward. There isn't any reason to try and leverage them into different applications and very little wiggle room to try even if we wanted to.

I don't actually remember a time you guys attempted to use the Panzer Blade, for instance, but really it's just a personal dissatisfaction for how... samey, solutions to problems get?

we did't use panzer blade because it has the same damage induced blast radius issue that shooting people has. It's no less indiscriminate than any of our other tools, but way less effective.

Last mission. I'm not sure if it was an IC or OOC decision but I distinctly remember Nepgear abstaining from using her Purifier Beam in favor of her Panzer Blade because it had less collateral damage issues.

Aside from that; well while Nepgear is Skilled with her Panzer Blade the people she's facing have years, or longer, of experience with melee weapons over her. Anytime we've tried to fight someone in melee they've owned us due to being more skilled. That and the simple fact that ranged weapons are flat out better then melee weapons 99% of the time.

About the only case, aside from limited collateral damage which has kinda been solved, we'd want to use Panzer Blade over Purifier Beam is if we were fighting someone with slower Flight and OP ranged attacks. That would give us the incentive to charge in and beat them at close range where they can't try and attack our allies.

"you guys" as in the playerbase, not as in Nepgear herself. Fair point otherwise.

All that said, the argument we have about Nepgear only having a collection of hammers in terms of available weapons/tools is still entirely valid.
And I'm not just talking about Nepgear herself.

Take a look at Team GEAR:
1) James Roberts - annoyingly unkillable counter-dodge-monkey
2) Michael Rodriguez - spell-immunity, conditional auto-kill on (weak) demons, and a buff for our War Angel Gabriel.
3) Samael Balier - redonculous number of spells - most of which are an assortment of damage and defense buffs, various damage plinkers (i.e. not all that useful), and (blessedly, thanks Shirley and Brilliant Key!) a few utilities like Spell-Stop, Heal, Spell-Reflect and Stun.
4) War Angel Gabriel - she is dear to my heart and I love her a whole lot, but I value her the most for her Presence of Light and for being the strongest direct hitter outside of MGs on the team. I like her because she keeps the team safe well enough, but that's about all she does.
5) Aquila Riven, the Elf - specialized ranged support (and spec ops training).
6) Lucky Star, the Fairy - spellcaster nuker and general magic trivia dispenser.

Samael is the only one actually specced for something other than a form of "kill the enemy dead" - by virtue of having things to play around with - and he only got them on the last mission. Comparatively, even the most genocide capable MG to ever live (yes, Goddess Gold, unless I miss my mark) has a well-developed and appropriately overpowered Total Lockdown spell.

Point is, for all the seeming wealth of options we are afforded, the overall path this wealth of options points at, is unfortunately narrow. Team GEAR is very good at killing things dead, at attracting attention of heavy hitters from squishies, and at completing the uncomplicated missions. Once we go past this remit, we start to flag - not because we're so inept. But because we're simply not equipped for anything else.

Seriously, I'd have Nepgear pay through the nose for us to get a few spell grenades with Total Lockdown and a few emergency escape dimensional/teleportation beacons - because it would help our versatility so, so much. In fact, I figure those emergency escape options are becoming more valuable by the minute, what with Goddess Grey led kill teams aiming for us 24/7 with a 38-53% chance of getting us an auto-loss on a mission until it's dealt with.

This right here is what made Operation Soul Collector so difficult and (at least for me) frustrating; Team GEAR is heavily optimized towards murderblender and yet our goal, which we somehow achieved, was to defeat 5+1 of the strongest Magical Girls ever without anyone dying. I'm really looking forward to Operations Charon and High Tide since they are exactly the sort of thing we are well suited to. Well that and fighting to the death with Hero Units.

If Grey shows up, our support team is probably in more danger than Nepgear herself is. Because Nepgear can fly away really fast and is rather difficult to kill in a single turn.

I'm somewhat tempted to go on a mission with just Nepgear, Sega, and maybe one or two other high tier MGs (preferably ones who aren't squishy and/or can fly fast), without Team GEAR, just to try and bait out Grey.

So...all the Drives and all the Cores together then? Sure, that basically putting up a neon sign the size of the moon pointing at our team exclaiming [HIGH/PROFILE/TARGET] and is just asking for a strike team, but hey, the Drives didn't have the Cores with them when they got Wasted.

Nepgear + Goddess White + any number of other Drives or Cores except Juggernaut is also amazing if we can create a relevant situation for that.

Armor of the Time Lord applies to White's allies too.

I'm kinda confused? Is Celestial Severance the main weapon or the secondary?

Because Uni does WAY more dmg consistently than we can. (unless my math is wrong again, which could be.)

I thought we were supposed to represent the power plant and frame integrity.

EDIT: And the shielding/point defense systems.

The Progenitor Frame's main weapon is Symphony of Peace. Without using the PFrame, that is triggered any time that Nepgear uses any spell while Core Purge is active.

JC's Frame Weapon is based off her spell The End which is Level 20 in her character sheet, which seems to have gotten a stealth update. Nepgear's Frame Weapon is based off Celestial Severance which is Level 17. At Level 20 Symphony of Peace would deal a minimum of ~524 million Damage. Admittedly that is still less then Uni's spell but the Level 20 Ability might change that.

Since the damage was based on the spells and her spell is 3 levels higher, of course she did more damage. Ours also doesn't have The Insurmountable Gap trigger and we don't know what No Mercy does.

To give you all a heads up, the Partial-Activations of the Symphony and the Maw are utilizing the abilities of the Firing Spells instead of their inherent abilities as are held by the Progenitor Frame.

Omake idea: Candy Heart keeps getting revived by Goddess Red, and keeps getting killed by Nepgear as completely unintentional collateral damage. Nepgear never even notices that poor Candy is even there. Her latest death is getting blasted by Nepgear's satellite TV fixing laser and going "Yep. This is my life now."

Only if we change our name to Arthur Dent.
