Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

As well as Cosmos' sheer size. If she tries to talk to Nepgear directly, the Local Dimensional Cluster might not survive the experience.
So something only happens when Cosmos responds?

...

"Dear Lady Cosmos, I just wanted to call to thank you for bringing love for all of us to feel. I know you can't respond, but I wanted to express how much I appreciate your work."

This was how a little human made Cosmos' week.

Or, in Conceptual:
[Reverence] [Cosmos], [Gratefulness] [Creation] [Love] [Everyone] [Sensation]. [Awareness] [Negativity], [Expression] [Appreciation] [Cosmos] [Work]
(Was that somewhat accurate?)

That divine flaw in Red Rose's defenses that we just found makes me half tempted to, once the mission is over and we're somewhere safe, use the Conceptual Language in a way that will hurt but not seriously injure Red Rose, in order to drive her to find a way to patch that hole :V

Huh. I would have thought that a being as old as Cosmos would be aware of that issue long enough to think of a way around it.

Close. Give me a bit and I'll write something out.

She simply lacked a reason to. It'd more or less be a creative way of talking to her self, and she already has Void to give all of her love to.

Back to the issue at hand @crystalwatcher if we get to the other end of the hallway, would that be far enough away to avoid tanging Insight?

Also, if we had them block up their ears/render themselves deaf somehow, would that help?

Is "I'm bored, what can I do to pass some time" not reason enough? Eternity is a LONG time :V

I have the feeling that she spends all her free time throwing [Love] back and forth with Void :V

  • [X] [EXP] Plan Emergency
    -[X] Level Starshine to 17 (150+160=310)
[X] Plan Don't Mess With Divinity
-[X] Get some distance between yourself and the barrier, then taunt White Soul into using Soul Rend against you
-[X] The moment she does, charge at her and call out [PEACE] in the Conceptual Language from as close as possible to stop her from reacting, then hit her with the Panzer Blade as often as possible
-[X] If she is out of your direct range in that moment or gets away from you, cast Celestial Severance or Starshine, whichever is more likely to hit her
    [X] Plan Controlled Panic
-[X] Attempt to follow Red Rose's advice and Starshine White Soul's bodies, as well as the areas near her bodies.
-[X] Next, activate Core Purge, aiming at both White Soul and her Seal, wherever it is. Also try to get your Purge to effect the barrier if it can.
-[X] If Starshine doesn't work, try shooting White Soul. It might help.
    [X] Plan Big Booms
-[X] Start blasting with Purifier Beam at your own feet and sweeping towards White Soul. Aim for as much AOE as you can as long as you avoid engulfing the barrier.
-[X] If White Soul backs away and gives a lull try to hit the barrier to weaken it, aim away from where Insight is located.
-[X] If White Soul moves to the barrier curse and fly far enough away that she can't reach you quickly.
[X] Plan Someday This Will Work
-[X] Tell Sega to go through the wall or the ceiling.
-[X] Fly about halfway down the hall and activate Core Purge along the way. Make sure to watch both bodies.
-[X] If she avoids it by going through a wall, carve a hole and follow. If she goes into the central structure, follow at max speed. Stay in the middle of passages/rooms in order to prevent her from using corners. Return quickly in case she's circling around to go for the others.

You'd come out something like this:

[REALITY/CREATION]
[LOVE/AWARENESS/ALL]
[COMMUNICATION/IDENTITY/DUALITY]

Ah, so this is how the language is structured...
Could you link that one on the front page for reference? Maybe someone wants to work with it later.
If it can't convey the full message feel free to add in a non-bracketed addendum to explain exactly what's being conveyed.

Also, remember that this style is the older version of the Conceptual Language. Distillation over time would have added more words.

Think sort of like this:

[PEACE/NOTHING]
The Peace of the Void, the perfect echoing stillness.

While the more modern Conceptual Language as used by smaller Divine Beings such as Gaia would come out like this:

[Peaceful Void]
The Peace of the Void, the perfect echoing stillness.

The latter is also less likely to splatter mortals. It'd also actualize magical spells on the spot though so be careful with what combinations you use.

So what you're saying is that when we return to base, it's time for "Teach me, Gaia-sensei!" :V
Maybe.

Great... now my imagination painted the Cores and Drives sitting in a half-circle around a smiling Gaia with a chalkboard while the WEAPONs sit a few dozen metres back and watch... and all the rest of the base fled far away so as to not get splatted.

"While I can teach you a lesser version of the conceptual language as understood at my level, the actual and altogether true version is impossible to be taught. Think of it as trying to teach a man who was blind his entire life about colour...by shooting at him with a Thomson Machine Gun while singing Bohemian Rhapsody in binary. He wouldn't be able to understand it even if it didn't kill him.

You either already know how to speak the Conceptual Language and have always known, or you don't and never will. There is no in between. Sorry, but that's simply part of the consequence on how the Divinity Ranks were made."

Well, even if Gaia isn't hanging around base anymore, couldn't we draw her attention by going out of range of all the mortals at base and then yelling as conceptually 'loudly' as we can
[COMMUNICATION/SELF]
Please talk to me.

As long as we're on Earth, Gaia is technically everywhere and can make an avatar appear wherever she wants, right?

Little voice in my head: "Notice me sempai!"

Yes.
Well, I would think that she'd want to investigate at least out of sheer confusion at hearing someone yell at her in the Conceptual Language from within her own territory. That does not seem like the kind of thing that happens every day.

And from the sound of things, Nepgear doesn't actually know how to use that 'modern'/'weaker' version of the Conceptual Language yet, and I can't really think of a better (in terms of being both capable and willing) teacher for it than Gaia.

Also, my initial question was a Tsukihime reference, to play to Gaia's otaku side :V

One thing that just occurred to me. If we're standing at the end of a hallway and firing an AOE to fill up the rest of the entire hallway, the only way for White Soul to dodge is to make a new body appear right next to Nepgear, too close for the attack to have spread out to fill the width of the room.
When she clones herself, White Soul's clone has to be within touching distance to the one that used the spell, and starts at a dead stop.

This seems like an appropriate time to embrace weirdness.
Weirdness is fine. Unpredictable and unreliable weirdness is not fine. Especially since Nepgear has too much power and too little control and lots of things around that she doesn't want to destroy.

-[X] Get some distance between yourself and the barrier, then taunt White Soul into using Soul Rend against you
What part of "enormously experienced former #1 magical girl" says "easily taunted" to you? If she sees us trying to bait her, she will not fall for it. The only reason my plan had us lowering our guard was because I thought she might come up with something else nasty before she managed to penetrate it on her own, and I still expect her to figure out that we're baiting her. She's had her powers for a long time, and convinced most people that she was unkillable despite her weaknesses. She is emphatically not an idiot.

Are you sure that [PEACE] is the best thing to say? We could theoretically say other things.
I'd rather stick to [PEACE] and maybe [WAR]. Concepts which we know are both weak and friendly to us, and won't obliterate us because we surprised them by shouting their name.

And I think that it is the best shot we have. We can not afford to waste any time... but we only have one chance to get a drop on White Soul with Starshine; if that does not work as your plan expects, a surprise-Core Purge will not make the difference, either.
Core Purge has the same range as Celestial Severance, so she will already stay out of it... and us suddenly bullrushing her to pull it off will tell her we are planning something.
We aren't trying to surprise White Soul with Starshine or Core Purge. The point is that Starshine has a big enough AoE that she can't avoid it anyway. Ditto Core Purge, except we add on the fact that we're faster than her and can chase her down. And even if she escapes both, they're still useful as area-denial; she can't come near us if we're Core Purge'ing and she can't bring both bodies too close in case we use one of them, which limits how quickly she can send clones to harass us.

The point of the Conceptual Language is that it might, maybe, "hit at conceptual speeds" and therefore she can't dodge. Surprise is only a factor in getting her close enough for it to be deadly.

Yes, Heaven had a damping effect. It actively tried protecting everyone from it, but it lacked the metaphysical weight to save everyone from damage.
*Thinks about how powerful Heaven is*

Okay, new rule: no Conceptual Language shenanigans within ten miles of—

This would work.
—oh. I guess Gaia does some dampening too?

Please talk to me.

Yes, let's shout a greeting to every Divine Being around in a massively outdated dialect. There's no chance this could possibly lead to unpleasant attention.

Talking to Gaia is probably OK though. It would tell her more about what we are, which is… probably a good thing. So long as she doesn't decide we're a threat to her interests.

Also, repeating this for @crystalwatcher:
The battlefield is more of a wide hallway/small entryway that leads into the central structure of the Necropolis. The whole thing is roughly 50 meters wide, and 70 or so meters long with Irene and Anastasia standing at either end.
Did you accidentally a zero? Because 50 meters is not a "wide hallway". 5m would be. (Nor, for that matter, is something 70m long a "small entryway".) Also, she's pretty fast to have crossed fifty meters in the few seconds between her first and second attacks, unless that's the distance she retreated to after seeing Celestial Severance.
The overhanging plant life is low enough to be cut through with Severance, but the fallout of that is for you guys to discover.
Does that mean that it's at eye-level, or fifty meters up? :p And what kind of vegetation is it? Ivy would make sense for a roof, but if it's really that wide then it could be trees, or if it's narrower it could be trees hanging over from outside the walls. Also, I was asking about the roof, not plants (though the information is still useful). Destroying hanging ivy won't reduce structural integrity, but cutting down walls or busting through the ceiling would.

Also: what exactly is the shape, size and layout of these barriers? If they're planar, or otherwise don't completely surround the others (and we know that Insight is "pressing herself against a wall"), then Sega could go through the wall (her damage is high enough that even without Collateral Damage or room to swing she should be able to get through, I think). Do they just cover the interior of the passageway, or do they extend beyond it through the walls (or can't we tell)?
