Well, if you mean by that that Gendo wasn't the big mastermind behind 2I, then, duh. Nobody really claimed that. But he was involved in making it happen - and hence was involved in the murder of 3b people.
That argument can be made of anyone on the trip though (barring Misato. Probably). The question is if he actually did anything or steered Katsuragi the elder into doing whatever it was that woke up and then exploded ADAM, or if he was there to observe and report, then leave with tissue samples or something before everything went to shit.

Well, considering how it ended up for the crew, Katsuragi senior probably didn't know. Meanwhile, Gendo hopped into security just in time.

Episode 21 has a line from Kihl stating that Katsuragi and his scientists were "caught up in their dogma, they [lost] their grip on reality", and "only sought self-satisfaction through the 'joy of discovery' and the control brought by understanding"

Essentially SEELE paid for Katsuragi to go to Antarctica as a part of looking for proof of his S2 Engine theory (this isn't uncommon, a lot of high-energy physics experiments are performed in the Arctic because its isolated from most electromagnetic interference and the ice traps subatomic particles that pass through the Earth). They attempted to experiment on the S2 Engine that they found within Adam and woke him up.

Kihl and SEELE knew what was going to happen but didn't warn Katsuragi because they wish to end humanity rather than trying to improve it like Katsuragi wanted.

Mad props for that Gendo segment.

As for myself, I can't declare for a team yet because I'm unsure which is the viper and which is the scorpion. :V

Though the contrast is quite nice. "What you and your friends have done"... yeah. 3b victims. That can be held against Gendo.
There is a great degree of dramatic irony in the line. His father obviously did not know about Gendo's involvement in 2I he was talking about Gendo's actions as a young punk gang member. But we know that Gendo's sins go well beyond that. The other thing I liked was Gendo referring his current associates (SEELE) as being quite similar to his old ones. For all their posturing and self aggrandizement Gendo sees SEELE as just a bunch of power hungry thugs.
Well, that is, it makes sense with Gendo. Regarding Shinji, well you know where we stand regarding that.
That's true, and I think your view is fair to have. I admit that I often view things from my own perspective. And one thing about that is that I love parallels reflections and echos.

Which if true makes Misato's current hatred of Shinji deeply ironic. She hates him for being like the thing she swore to destroy, the thing that killed her father, but in many ways he is the realization of his fathers dream. Of course hate is by its nature rarely rational.

good Gendo segment.
and with his great hate of his father and love for his girl... he reminds me even more of Shinji... wonder if he is aware he is repeating the same thing with his son, only he is the father this time...

Fuck you too, dad.
Gendo stiffened. "Don't talk about her." Gendo insisted, motioning with the gun. "After what you did you don't get that right."
The saddest thing here is that makes the relationship between Shinji and Gendo the better of the two...
As ugly and abuse-by-neglect as theirs was, it was still better than Gendo and his father.
"I am my father's son." Gendo grit his teeth. "I am what you made me. But don't you dare say that all... that was for my own good. You were not some wise teacher, you were a bully and a drunk who took the shame of his own failures out on his family."
He was this self-aware about his problems... but then losing Yui broke him. It's sad to contemplate who Gendo might have been if that hadn't happened. He'd still be a pretty amoral hatchet-man for a global conspiracy bent on ending humanity, but he'd be a better man than he became in canon, and probably would have tried to be a decent father, if for no other reason than Yui wanted him to be.

Finished Devilman: Crybaby today. I am not going to spoil anything but it was a ride from start to finish with some really touching moments. Its not for everyone, it can be very graphic at times but I would definitely recommend it.

In regards to Evangelion and BNB specifically it was interesting to watch because I had to keep reminding myself that Ryo Asuka actually came first, before Griffith or Manga Kaworu or several others. It lead to some interesting conversations with @Zeratoth about anime as a medium and the archatypes that have stood the test of time.

He is also useful as a character witness to say that I honestly had my vision for a few things locked down before I saw anything devilman related. Something he can attest to.

Hmm... another thread on the site stuck something in my craw and now I am just stressing out. Can I ask something openly and honestly of you guys? I just want you to be honest. If I had a male/male romance in the story would that be a hard line for you guys? I am asking because its early enough in the story to rejig and change if need be. And I really don't want to lose what little audience I have.

I'm with @Dealer on this one. I like BnB because it has a lot of interesting ideas, and does a very good job of painting all of its characters as three-dimensional. I quite enjoyed the scene with Rits and Mari, for example, because we got to see Rits judging Mari for her mad science and ignoring? Failing to judge? her own mad science. I enjoyed the scene with Gendo and Ritsuko, and their...human frailties.

If some of those scenes wind up going into S/K territory, who am I to judge?

If we wind up with Fuyutsuki/Kaji I'm dropping this fic, though, fair warning. I don't need those images.

Okay now it should definitely be Kaji/Kozo. That pairing is very underrepresented given that Kaji gave his life to save the old man.

Yanno I just told Alex elsenet that if he really justified it then I'd be totally fine with it...

...and here you are doing just that.

There's already lots of dark, juicy story potential in BnB, with Shinji, Asuka, and Kaworu having met and been friendly when very small. The idea of the three of them finding in each other someone who can understand a bit more than the outside world, learning to trust and support each other in the ultra-high-pressure war they find themselves ensnared in is... very neat. Of course I'd root for an OT3 here (I'd love to see what you'd do with a A/S/K setup in a darker, mid-war setting like this!), but I'm not going to run away in panic if it's S/K only. A fic where Shinji and Kaworu get to at least be friends, when they both need one so badly, is a good thing.

Thanks guys. I admit that I can admit that times I can get quite self conscous and obsessive of my own writing and people's views on it. And that can lead to me freaking out a bit. I know in a perfect world I would be able to write whatever wanted without worrying about other people's opinions but this is fanfiction. Emphasis on fan. It's made by a fan for other fans to consume and interact with. And I often fear about losing that. Thank you again for all the support. I hope I can in some small part give back to the community with my writing for all the joy you have given me.

While I am all one for OT3 in this, as I am sure Alex can do it right, we already get that with Asuka and Shinji in A&T and Alex has done a very good job of making a name for himself by making sure his fic doesn't do the same things as other. Not that he can't or that he shouldn't mind you, but I still would like to see different things from this fic.

I can't help but say this: If you root for OT3 then for the love of all that is good and magical don't keep KSK in the background of your fic. Us OT3 fans are dying of thirst.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I am the same way with my challenges and honestly if I wasn't they wouldn't be as good as they are(not they are perfect but...). I have no doubt in my mind if you weren't then we wouldn't have this golden fic. Just try not to let the vocal minority word more then the focal majority.

Eh sorry but a Kensuke Sayaka Kyoko OT3 is Stryp's thing. I would not feel comfortable copying that. I put Sayaka and Kyoko in Shinjis class but I don't plan on expandng the shout out past that.

That was for Stryp. I know you wouldn't nor do I expect you. To use those two that is. Now Homura and Madoka, especially with the idea I had that I put in here before, that's a nother story;).
Hehe thank you for the ringing enforcement I can only hope I can love up to it.
It's the truth. Plain and simple.

I don't know. This whole thing is making me seriously consider stopping this and leaving the site. I'm sorry. I'm just really the end of my leash with some irl stuff. And this is just driving me off.
