I don't really see the point of Ceru. Their ability works on one roll per day unless they have a lot of HD or have a powerful spellcaster as a master. What do we need them for? Also they are sapient (their Int is higher then average human's even), so that also counts as slavery.

I'm not too interested on this vote. Just remember to avoid using all our money.

Also, don't buy a mount for Richard. He is getting his own wings or a Nightmare to complete his Metal Album cover look :p
I still want to make a three headed steel dragon for him, animated by raw fire.

Speaking of dragon constructs. @DragonParadox, can we use the Forgefiends as template or raw materials for the Wyrmlings?

The Ceru are int 13 magical beasts. So... Slaves.

@DragonParadox, can Tyene cast comprehend languages on the Ceru so we can ask them some yes/no questions, if they would like to come and live in our realm and see if they might like to be familars to some of our mages, if they find any that are acceptable -, and if not any sutible are found, then that's fine too.

Rhaella and possibly Valaena familiar get!

The spell can only target the caster.

Maybe.

We need to go nab some more glass™ from sis' gang, cause we're gonna wanna a breeding pair of Ceru, an Istaheq stallion and two mares and some Ankhegs for good measure. I'm sure she'll understand. :p

The more magical beasts we have, the greater our options to experiment and give neat familiars to our baby PCs and mages. The better the variety and cooler the abilities, the better off we are. That luck reroll thing is some serious potential right there.

Ceru are only available as improved familiars to 7th-level casters, so Valaena and Rhaella have a long way to go before that is an option for them.

Unless you count 7th level as baby PCs, Ceru are not the valid pick for them. They are also intelligent and thus any experiments are questionable.

Damn. Didn't notice that.

So, basically a free re-roll once a day per sophont slave.

The chargers are indeed tanks, but are Int 4, so ... I'm a bit hazy on how much of a person Vs how much of an animal it is.

Not sure I want anything.

@all, please remember that money we don't spend here we can spend on bags of holding or portable holes or just spell scrolls.

They're still a really neat thing to have. I'm sure we could come up with a suitable arrangement like we did with our Blink Dogs. They could become full-fledged members of our kingdom.

Ceru ARE really neat. But I am not sure if we will get enough use out of them for that. We all have familiars already. Except Lyra maybe?

@Duesal, @Paradosi, switching votes. The utility of the Ceru isn't really that great after giving it some thought.

[X] Plan Acid And Horses
-[X] 2x Ankheg (Male, Female) - 360 SC
-[X] 3x Istaheq (Male, 2x Female) - 2700 SC
-[X] Total Cost: 3060 SC

Leaving us with 940 SC. While we could squeeze in another Istaheq, we can just buy more at a later date and I don't want to blow all of our money.

... Yeah. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking we're not actually going to get that much use out of the Ceru. @LockedMind has ended up convincing me.

HA! You Faceless'd me beautifully. I was literally right in the middle of making that exact vote. No complaints. After thinking about it the Ceru are all kinds of not worth it.

I'm not terribly impressed with the Ceru.

Unless you can be affected more than once by the luck of different ones.

The horses, otoh, are great. Not that shit Abery tried to sell us, these are great horses.

I'm kind of hesitant about letting them out of our hands, not when we got the opportunity via a 96 on a d100. Is 1180 SC really all that big a deal?

1180 SC is the equivalent of 2360 IM. That's money we could be spending on Adamantium or magic items.

Also, despite being a 96 on a d100, I'm pretty shocked that their true value turned out to be so low, but it really isn't that valuable on closer inspection.

EDIT: The horses on the other hand are pretty fucking great. I want to put the stallion out to stud among the Dothraki horses and see what we can get out of that.

EDIT: Goldfish has a point. I'm just not sure either way so I'll abstain.

Agreed, Ceru are not worth it. I'm happy the thread sees it that way now. :)

I think they happen to be pretty meh for a high roll, while the Istaheq seem good for a non-crit. I suppose there's just more great mounts then there are familiars.

EDIT: Maybe the rolls were just about getting good prices? Hmm.

@TotallyNotEvil if theres a spot open could you invite me the the legion discussion? I have a few ideas I want to toss around.
None, unfortunately :(

But this. I feel we should get a breeding pair just because. They do make excellent familiars.

The horses are horribly expensive. 1800 IM each? A grown, trained hippogriff goes at 800 IM on SRD!

@DragonParadox
1) Good as they, aren't the horses overpriced? They are going each for twice a trained hippogriff. These horses are going at 9000 GP.
2) Can a person be affected more than once by the Ceru's ability, if it's from different Cerus?
3) Can't Viserys try to bargain?

They are incredibly overpriced, and if we could bring that down it could be great, but the thing with the horses is that we already have a pretty amazing infrastructure to breed hybrids. Our Dothraki already have the best steeds in the mortal world, we just need to put the stallion out to stud among the normal mares.

Seriously though, they're way too overpriced.

I think the mark-up is because the seller does not really want to sell them to us in the first place, and is also trying to make up the funds from the contract that fell through by fleecing us guilt free.

We are filthy foreigners, after all. Fleecing outside traders is basically the thing you do in Not!Middle-Eastern bazaars.

These are genie touched horses being sold to "mortals" I wouldn't be surprised if they are being sold at a mark up.

Edit: I will have my vengeance Crake.

Btw the Ceru are apparently created, so maybe they like the dragonpens are happy to serve? Anyways they are for familiars and we are in no hurry for those, Lya still needs to pick improved familiar for Aebys, and DP implied there is something special waiting if she does.
