  • [X] Plan "Let's make a Devil shit itself in pure, unadulterated terror!"
-[X] Viserys casts Air of Nobility and Voice of the Dragon, if they are not already active, then uses Greater Shadow Enchantment to duplicate a Grand Destiny spell. He then briefly Teleports to Storm's End (using a 5th level spell slot one way and two 4th level slots on the return trip). Ask Dany to Imbue him with a Divine Insight spell.
-[X] When ready to persuade the Dogai, Viserys assumes LHD form, uses Divine Insight to boost his Intimidate check by +15, and Grand Destiny to boost it by +4. Threaten the Dogai with True Death after a torturous round of organ harvesting if it does not tell us everything it knows of that could be relevant to us or the Renplacement. If bound by an Infernal contract, it had better figure out how to bend the strictures of the deal without breaking them, for its continued existence is on the line.
--[X] Use the Seeker as an example of the fate of Devils who have crossed our path. "Notice the wings, taken from an Erinyes? Can you sense the remnants of the Pleasure Devil, as well? From that Infernal gift, it gained the ability to translocate itself, if only short distances. Perhaps what we take from you will give it the ability to become Invisible?"

--[X] Viserys ask Dany to Imbue him with a Divine Insight spell. He asks Lya to cast Pronouncement of Fate on the Dogai, as the assassin perpetrated an attack that could have absolutely destroyed our reputation among all Westerosi, and could have even attempted to murder us. Then have her use Detect Thoughts on the Dogai while she hides nearby under Invisibility.

Would you like to see the fashion accessory my little sister carries around? We crafted it from a horn taken from the Cornugon that thought itself our betters."

-[X] "Hm, a surprisingly fair point. I suppose I should show you Mercy, then."
-[X] Fetch Vee and her favorite meat cleaver, which you've taken the liberty of dubbing Mercy. Take all the grafts you can before killing it.

Part MDLXXXIX: In the Language of Devils
In the Language of Devils

Eleventh Day of the Twelfth Month 292 AC

Torture is a lowly, and vile act in the Seven Kingdoms, a threat to be used against one's foes certainly, but not performed by a lord in the sight of his fellows, and so you cannot be seen practicing it, though you can certainly threaten it and mean it in full. A dragon's dreadful majesty you wear as a cloak and of shadows you weave a sense of fate and grandeur beside you... and then you vanish from that place, giving the devil time to stew.

"You really should not scare cousin Renly that much, even if he is a fey imposter," Dany says, startled to see you thus.

As soon as you explain your true purpose she invests you with a knowing, a shard of stolen lore, a prophecy unsung and yet unshaped that would once have been the gift of Tiamat as well as the gift of tongues that you may speak to the devil in the tongue closest to its nature without being understood by your guest. "Make the thing pine for the comfort of hell," your sister finishes, her gaze mirroring the same rage you had felt when the devil had tried and near-succeeded in blackening your name.

"I shall endeavor to," you answer as you will yourself home once more, not before the heart tree but in the dark and silent chamber where the Seeker waits with endless patience armed and armored for battle.

***

"Do you know what this is, oh Master of Shadows?" you ask the dogai in the cruelly precise tongue of the damned, one most fitting to such words. "A false man wrought of old of desecrated flesh and, by the unwilling gifts of your kindred, improved: wings of a Sister of Fury, sinews of a Cupbearer of Sin. What gifts might you give it, I wonder?"

For a moment longer than you can say you wait in utter silence looking into the hell-lights of your foe's eyes, letting it see that you are no less resolved to see it suffer torment beyond the ken of humankind than any of its foul kin would be, though you would not draw any pleasure from the deed. As much pleasure, you admit in the privacy of your own mind.

"You have not the patience to match the artistry of my master, boy," the thing hisses aloud for the first time, the voice like a soft death-rattle by your ear.

"True, I am not a patient man," you agree, knowing the smile on your lips to be an ugly thing. "Answer quickly who set you upon your task and where might more of your ilk be found. Else you shall have to contend with my merely mortal thoroughness."

Again silence reigns, deeper than before/ Even the wind and the rustling of leaves has stopped, only the soft breath of the changeling can be heard in the grove. Then finally the devil speaks again: "You show some skill in showing the whip, boy," it offers in what you are disgusted to realize sounds like honest praise. "Yet you do not show the sweet cup. What would I gain by bending my vows as far as they can be bent?"

What do you answer?

[] Offer it banishment, hell's assassins are endless, one more sent back in disgrace

[] Offer to merely kill its form and harvest some of its essence, not unmake all, thereby exacting a permanent toll on one who transgressed so egregiously against you

[] Offer it a chance to eat the Elysium fruit, you might as well discover what if any virtue those things have upon fiends

[] Write in

OOC: Well, you got one degrees of success in the intimidation, which is a lot more than most people would get. The rolls were 3 +58 (consolidated bonuses) - 30 (assassin's honor motivation) = 31 vs 17 + 15 (will save) -7 (Cursed) = 25.

I would like to see what the fruit would do to it, but I don't want to waste 16 HD worth of OG fertilizer.

Do we have any other sacrificial turtles lying around?

Hmm, that's 25 HD worth of sacrifices, assuming our new Vrock In A Bottle doesn't have any class levels.

What's the cost for a new Heart Tree?

Birdbrain has at least 1 extra racial HD

And see this:

Blood Component: Sacrifice of 16 HD worth of sentient creatures who must be hung from the tree or if the branches will not support them, impaled before its roots.

Special: The value of the sacrifice is modified by the following factors:
  • Low Intelligence (Int 3 to 6): -50%
  • Native Outsider: +25%
  • Fey: +30%
  • True Outsider (Called): +35%
  • Undead: +40%
  • Cold Subtype: +50%
  • Creature Capable of casting spells (not SLAs): +25%
  • Willing Sacrifice (no magical compulsions): +100%
For each secondary effect desired the Blood Cost increases as follows:
  • 1 Secondary effect: 24 HD worth of sacrifices
  • 2 Secondary effects: 36 HD worth of sacrifices
  • 3 Secondary effects 54 HD worth of sacrifices

That means we have at least 39 HD worth of sacrifices. Those two levels of Assassin just barely gave the Dogai spellcasting ability.

That's a Heart Tree with two secondary effects.

Or a lot of mojo juice to get the OG to help us with the Dracolich.

If we could convince the Dogai to willingly sacrifice itself in return for not extracting grafts, we would have over 54 HD to work with.
