I think I originally stated that even if something is objectively the better choice, or more logical, or what have you, when you apply reason to someone's preference or some kind of cultural tableau that composes our order of conducting things, that's not how things work.

Human nature is subjective. Some say we're inherently good at heart, some say we're inherently evil and full of sin.

And some think we're all mostly dumbasses, and the average of those dumbasses are even dumber.

It's a mixed bag, this human condition of ours.

Quick question. What is stopping us from telling Lord Tarth that the fake Renly is a fake before leaving and in private?

There is still the silver blood on fake Renly?

Common sense. Anything that comes out of our mouth is of questionable veracity. Sure we could say it, and it might even create some doubt given the present evidence, but it's the kind of thing you don't want to be true because it has bad implications for you and the stability of your region.

Why would anybody believe us? What's more likely - we trying to implicate our foe, or the beloved lord being a fae construct?

I thought Azel was the devil around here, at least the one not turned into a turtle at any rate.

Think of me as an Inevitable rather than a Devil. I'm more practical.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of distributing broadsheets. We could call it the Dragon's Roost, or something catchier.

An Amanuensis printing press would be quite cheap and we wouldn't need to use high quality parchment or wood pulp paper.

We could also use it to distribute helpful knowledge to the masses, such as common tactics to combat Undead, how to interact with Fey without getting ensnared, etc.

I want to have Lya craft one next turn. Distributing the first printing of the broadsheets could coincide with our first Westerosi pub crawl.

Mostly our desire to keep Shiny!Renly there while we go about our business.

His brother already knows he's not the real deal so whatever happens is on him.

Let Shiny!Renly keep the throne because it was legally abdicated? Start a Civil war for it? Tell his fatass drunken brother about it and get the King involved?

Who knows, or indeed who cares?

We're getting a show either way and whoever gets fucked over we win.

Bit cruel I know, but you've got to take your laughs where you can in this life, until we fix the afterlife in any case but that's scheduled for later.

A pity that nobody can read. We will need state-funded schools first.

IIRC, literacy is fairly common among Westerosi citizens, especially skilled laborers, at least for a medieval setting. It only takes a single literate person to read to dozens of others. Literate nobles will also be prime targets for our broadsheets.

A desire to have fake Renly for ourselves and have him voluntarily abdicate as the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.

Fake Renly is designed to be the perfect lord in every way. He'd make a fantastic minion.

Lord Tarth just saw things that would fit into what you said and he took it better than most.

Could be wrong and your right.

Just a thought.

There's also the awkward situation it would create for us most of all.

Stannis is our hostage.

If we out Renly as a fake, and the Stormlanders believe us, who the hell do we negotiate with once they're done removing Renly from power?

Because the next in line is Robert, and he is the last person to consider ransoming his brother from us.

Outing Renly here and now only hurts us, it doesn't help us.

We're currently propping up their calm state of mind by promising to burninate the hell out of those devils, pun intended.

There's no band-aid solution for your liege Lord being an impostor. That's a clusterfuck that could ruin an entire Kingdom for a generation.

There was actually a similar situation I once saw in an Extra Credits video.

Basically, one kingdom's army managed to capture the king of another kingdom in battle, but it took forever to get the ransom because there was nobody with the right authority to make that kind of decision since the head of state was both still alive and yet unable to make the decision.

That's what we'd be walking into if we make a move to oust Renly now. Stannis can't really ransom himself, Renly wouldn't be acknowledged as a Baratheon and could not make any decisions as one, and Robert straight up wouldn't talk to us.

We'd never see a penny of that 12,000 IM we want. :o

Ok that make sense.

Just had a weird thought and it's late where I am.

Yeah, money is good.

At the very least this will make Lord Tarth think better of us now we are helping his lands.

Yep. Our rep is garbage to the general populace, but personal interactions like this are a great way to counteract that stigma to some extent. Nothing else seems to help much.

A reminder that despite the slander against us, we can usually overturn it via diplomacy and action still, and it's been getting easier. If we stop managing our PR, I guarantee you things will change drastically for the worst. We are mildly inconvenienced by our enemies dedicated efforts to paint us as a villain. Prove their words correct in a way that can be verified by a respected Lord, or a vast number of witnesses, and you'll see a whole host of new problems and resistance arise that will make our current PR issues seem like a schoolyard spat.

As long as we are not seen as a monster, but a man (who might do monstrous things) we can use diplomacy and divide and conquer. If we lose that, we'll face a united front. We lose access to a lot of the best, and have to resort to using the types that devils and demons make use of, something I'm not willing to stoop to.

I think the moment we manage to take out the Lannisters around half our PR problems will mysteriously vanish.

That being said I was pretty happy with how miserable Lanna and Gerion are.
