heh, those PenDragons still crack me up.
I wonder what certain king would think should he see them...

And try to sell them, only to find other mages using Amanuensis to copy them illegally through the internet Underdark?
If write and illustrate them with Arcane Marks, aka using the Pendragons, that should make them immune to piracy through amanuensis.

Besides, we are talking about fully ilustrated treatises on magical beings here. You might xerox a 800 dollar medicine book, but you won't be getting the literally lifelike quality of their illustrations.

Write a handful of sets, set up a auction with the upper crust of Braavos for it.

I'm sure the Iron Bank will want to own a set, and so will the Sealord.

Single volumes can be similarity auctioned and held as great marks of status.

Books are stupidly expensive. We once bought a few in Braavos, the better ones ran 30-60 IM each. Rare ones were 100-200 IIRC.

Magical books authored by the premier sorcerer in the world? Close to priceless.

You can't pay for having perfectly lifelike illustrations of all magical creatures you could feasibly find and instrunctions on how and when to fight them.

We could even add a really cool feature on "deluxe" versions with at-will Silent Image so they can project the images at 1:1 scale. Maybe add a limited Ghost Sound ability so the text reads itself in Viserys' smooth voice.

And it's a good dead, too. Because spreading knowledge about the awakening magic, and it's non-human users, would also make humans slightly more resistant.

Highest Arcana: Viserys at +19
Highest Dungeoneering: Viserys at +12
Highest Religion: Dany at +13
Highest the Planes: Waymar at +18
Highest Nature: Vee at +16

So we can write about 21 HD Dragons, Magical Animals and Constructs, 20 HD Outsiders, 18 HD Fey, Giants, Animals and Monstrous Humanoids, 15 HD Undead, 14 HD Aberrations using the Headband or Fox's Cunning.

We through the magic that is Imbue With Spelllike Ability and CL 9 Divine Insight (after Dany gets lv 10, which she can already), we jump to 35 HD Dragons, Magical Animals and Constructs, 34 HD Outsiders, 32 HD Fey, Giants, Animals and Monstrous Humanoids, 29 HD Undead and 28 HD Aberrations.

With the Imbued SLA, Viserys by himself can do 35 HD Dragons, Magical Animals and Constructs, 28 HD Outsiders, 28 HD Fey, Giants, Animals and Monstrous Humanoids, 28 HD Undead and 28 HD Aberrations.

So, yeah, one could say he knows a little bit about magic.

... Xor has no Knowledge (Dungeoneering)???

He is the one who knows more about aberrations, because he actually lived with them. But, for some reason, the character sheet from Lords of Madness has Planes as the main knowledge.

So I guess that he can use Planes as a pseudo Dungeoneering or something.

I imagine using Planes to know about aberrations is making a really really hard check about the Far Realms.

Nearly 3 hours since the vote was closed and no sign of DP. I wonder what he is preparing in response to those questions.

Complete Arcane even has some guidelines about unique spellbooks which we could use.

Make an Encyclopedia Arcanum, a blackened-steel cover, copper-foil series of tomes with built-in holographic animation via Silent Image and narration of the contents and commentary via Ghost Sound, add in self-levitation ability. Take 20 on Knowledge checks with Divine Insight to make it.

From that we make the Monster Manuals, leatherbound steel covers, alchemically treated vellum, essentially a high-grade spellbook in terms of quality, built such that it's hard to eremitério ir alter pages while being easy to tell if such has been done. Mildly censor some madness-things, remove the most obvious pieces of temptatiom. No Dragon lore.

And after some time, we release a watered down "Journeyman's Guide" or sorts.

I'd rather first create the DragonPen-mundane version, and let the academy students work on the improved version. Less time spent on crafting.

Also, for Religion: Snek's comments on Life and Death.

We can use the pimped version as gifts for really important people.

Question what is our long term plan for dealing with the deep ones after crushing there main fortress here?

Because I favor creating an alliance and knightly order among the narrow sea houses and the tritons. The tritons can help fight them in the sea, provide magical equipment or plausible deniability for magical equipment we provide and their cleric probably have water breathing as a domain spell to bring troops beneath the waves to help. Because of the logistics of it humans will probably have to act like adventurer teams taking the big risk of engaging tougher opponents as tritons deal with the chaff on the offensive while on the shores they fight them as normal mostly alone. Both sides gain something, the tritons get to expand into deep ones controlled seas, Humans the martial glory their society thrive on and get access to triton trade for magic items, both get to be rid of a threat to their people and access to whatever loot they get from the deep ones and we can get goodwill and battle field experience for our most likely supporters. Both sides make the other better the basis of al great friendships.

Plus this might lure out more good aligned aquatic races to join in! which I say entirely because I love Sea Elves.

Wasn't Xor already writing The Hitchhiker's Guide to Aberrations?
Fantastic Beats and Where to Kill Them?

Part MCL: Wilfulness of the Flesh
Wilfulness of the Flesh

Thirty-First Day of the Fifth Month 292 AC

The air grows cold with every word of Dany's invocation, the shark-man's flat, dead eyes flare with spectral flames a low growl emerges from between jagged teeth... breath of the breathless stirs the incense laden air. Enchantments of knowing your sister also casts upon yourself and lord Brune in equal measure... Still the elderly lord seems content to let you speak the questions, whether from deference to your skill or hesitancy to take part in necromancy you cannot guess.

"What he knows of his master's intentions for the people of these lands?" you speak the first question, agreed upon beforehand.

"Feed... grow... take... bind," the head responds, each word sounding as if it should be snarled in rage and hatred yet hollow.

"What direction would we have to swim from the village he attacked and how long to reach the place he was stationed at?" The second question is more specific, you hope more fruitful than the last.

"South and east... slash in in the earth's skin.... five suns." Remembering the last DeepOne lair you encountered the instructions make more sense then they make to the clearly bemused lord Brune. These things congregate around placed where the fires of the deep earth well up under the sea.

"What direction would we have to swim from the village he attacked and how long to reach the nearest fortress of his masters?" you ask cautiously, the second-to last question. You would rather not arrive at some crude sahaguin village under the waves.

"South and east... slash in in the earth's skin.... five suns." the answer is repeated perfectly in the same chillingly empty tone... hollow words for hollow flesh.

You have what you came for so you look to the lord of Dyre Den... a long moment passes, then he clears his throat loudly and speaks perhaps a touch too quickly. "Are other attacks on my lands planned?"

"Not know." with a dull sound of bone striking bone the jaws close, the magic spent.

"Not near as much as we might have hopped but enough for a raid," Ser Richard grunts.

"You aim to fight the Squishers in their lair... under the sea?" Yohn Brune asks eyes going wide beneath bushy eyebrows.

"There's magic that can allow one to breathe water as air..." you explain. After a short pause to wet your throat with the wine set before you: "Though there is a risk something down there might break the enchantment so it is not a thing lightly entered into." Best not to set their hopes too high, too often you have seen those new to sorcery expect overmuch of it to their abiding misfortune and that of any mage they come across.

The three Brunes nod in seeming understanding, though you can tell they hesitate between wanting to know more and their superstitious fear of sorcery. Perhaps they think knowing too much might contaminate them...

Once again the ancient prayer is spoken turned upon its head to summon an echo of dead spirit from silent flesh: tentacles slither blindly over the table upon which they are set, eyes spark with ghostly radiance. Then without warning the light within them pulses with a light the eye can see but the mind cannot name and a spike of pain... the merest shadow of its dreadful sorcery pulses through your head.

The vessel halls silent, the spell spent. "It seems to be more fortunate in death than it was in life," Dany jests though you can fear the frustration in her voice. "For seven days more it cannot be questioned again..." Then spoken not aloud but in your thoughts to keep it from the Brunes: "It may be best to destroy it before then least others of its kind seek it and come upon us unaware."

What do you do with the ulitharid head?

[] Keep it to ask further questions

[] Destroy it

What do you do next?

[] Ask Lord Brune to contact other loyalist lords while you try to deal with the Deep One fortress

[] Go around the other lords of the point to rally them in secret to your cause

[] Write in

OOC: Hopefully that's enough information to get you guys going

Can we destroy the brain, while keeping the head usable for Speak with Dead?

I want a taxidermist to treat this Ulitharid corpse. We aren't badass enough until we get a trophy hall somewhere.
