Same here. I've got to wake up 6 AM UTC+1 all week, but don't expect me to react to anything until 10 on the weekends.

In regards to the Searing, I just wanted to make sure that the thing doesn't have fire protection too.

Part MCXLI: From Peril into Peril Flying
From Peril into Peril Flying

Thirtieth Day of the Fifth Month 292 AC

You can hear the sounds of fighting, of dying from farther inland where Vee and Maelor guard the people of this place. There will be no bargaining... no words save spells of battle and strife, no recourse save fire and steel. Once you circle the battle-ground granting arcane swiftness to Ser Richard, Waymar and Garin.... then you fly towards the dark shapes of the village, scattering a hail of fiery arrows in your wake.

"Come on we have to help the others," you shout to Dany, hopping you will not break her concentration.

It seems that you do not, for you can sense bleak misfortune settle upon the monster two of the darts still sink hissing into the sea and Lya's spell of withering death also does not find its mark by the merest hairsbreadth. the last glimpse you have of the monster is charging in eerie silence towards the shore... still the wings of dragons prove swifter than whatever strange power holds it aloft... you can only pray your friends can keep the monster from coming upon you and Dany from behind...

The village was a scene of horror... the well around which the mud and wattle houses were once gathered had exploded upwards into a crater twenty feet wide from which the foul hosts of the deep were pouring ceaselessly: shark men with crude stone axes and mallets wielded with savage strength... dozens scores of them fighting and killing fantastical beasts of every description: from white-maned lions to savage griffons to the one-horned spirits of purity such as Vee had called against the serpent demon, all struggling to keep the shark-men from the houses. Above it all, like some twisted godling begotten of a lost age of horror, is the Deep One Magus. It hovers supported by naught but its alien will as its feet disdain touching the ground, a looming figure almost nine feet tall draped in fine robes of mauve silk to match its glistening skin, its nightmarish tentacled countenance impassive as it observes the carnage bellow.

Of your friends you see no sign though you know Vee at least still lives by the presence of her conjured beasts. Then, as one of the white lions falls, you hear her voice on the air, a swift command to call another in its place.... They were unseen, a scroll Maelor had Lya inscribe perhaps, but how are they flying?

The question barely has time to form in your mind when the monstrous magus twists mid-air and gestures imperiously to the place Vee's voice had come from. The air itself seems to scream in torment at the passage of its foul magic... yet in the deadly game of hide-and-seek your friends are still the victors for now.

What do you do?

OOC: If Maelor had not had some invisibility scrolls made, or if the ulitharid simply had access dispel magic both he and Vee would be dead.

Last plan ended with 'go to the village'. That refers to the planning from before, where we distributed the characters. The actions at the beach were just the specification of the parting shots.

Would an invisible grapple attack from behind work or not, and would it be suicide?

You want to intentionally grapple a mind flayer?
I know, that's cruel towards you (grapple mechanics), but from the fuzzy remains of memory, you can freely use natural weapons, and it's, mechanically speaking, a difference whether you grapple a MF or a MF grapples you - the auto-extract works when the MF has the upper hand, not vice versa.

[] Attack the Deep One with Firebreath, make sure that you fly his height or higher so retaliatory strikes do not hit allies on the ground
-[] Dany casts Laogzed's breath

Tyene is not at the village.

I'd say dispel magic followed by tentacles.
Dany has Laogzed's Breath, Tyene Nauseating Breath.
Also, it's up in the air where I doubt Tentacles would work and it is really good at grappling, even against those.
Also it can use Dimension Door as SLA to get out.

I'm tempted to just Charge and Full-Attack him.
He can turn any successful tentacle-strike into a grapple.
And that kills us quikly.
If we go melee we have to weaken it first, both in HP and Debuffs like Laogzed.

Alternativly, is Benign Transposition a Clerics spell? Dany using Balor Nimbus on herself and then Transposition to switch with us out of a grapple after we did full damage with claws might work.

Softening him with Firebreath and Laogzeds should help a lot. We can Full-Attack afterwards and Vee and Maelor can finish him with ranged attacks.

Was he already dispelled? If the Herald sports a Protection from Energy, sonic, bet on Resistance to Energy, fire with the Ulitharid.

Why not just barrage it with targeted Dispel Magic spells? Burn off its buffs and Counterspell anything it tries to cast.
