I don't think anyone expects her to be good at fighting for the next few years. But the option talks about a first step.
She is a five years old girl. Unless she becomes a sorcerer herself, odds that that she will be relevant in any combat situation, in a decade at least, are close to a zero. Viserys honestly have a better things to spend his time on.

I don't expect her to become a great fighter in a few years, I want to increase her survival chances if we make a mistake or the RNG decides to screw us. For me the plan is not to make a supersoldier, the plan is to protect Viserys little sister. And that is one of the most important things he can spend his time on, even if the payoff is small.

Right. But the payoff is really small. Again, a very little girl - she would not be able to protect herself against hostile adults even with whatever training Viserys can provide and we have taken a foul-mouthed bartender with loyal thugs option for protector anyway.

Part XIV: An Unexpected Meeting
An Unexpected Meeting

Twenty-eight Day of the Ninth Month 289 AC

Today you have decided to explore the area around the Rat more thoroughly. After all knowing the lay of the land will be of vital importance inn your current shadowy occupation. You find many passages through the sinking mass of the Old Town that one of your relatively slight girth could navigate through and discover unexpected places where the brackish waters can be waded by one who is light of foot. The snake boats also rarely travel though most of Drowned Town because of the unpredictable eddies caused by the sinking masonry. Truly this is a rogue's paradise where even the Sealord's Guard never mind those fools in the watch would find themselves outmatched.

You also find some coins in the mud of the paths with your unusually keen sight adding something to your dwindling stock of coin.

Gained 7 Iron Pennies

As you return to the comparatively drier land that abuts Ragman's Harbor you hear a man hailing you in Westerosi. You freeze not daring to flee least danger come upon you unprepared later. The lanky dark-haired man, a knight by his dress all-but-runs in your direction. As he comes closer you are both pleased and disconcerted on recognizing him. Ser Richard Lonmouth a Stormalander knight your brother's former squire. Your mind moves feverishly. The Lonmouths were loyal and Ser Richard fought at the Trident. By rights he would recognize you not only as Viserys Targaryen but as his king. What fickle fate would have such a one find you now when you have chosen to cloak yourself in shadows and dishonorable deeds?

What do you do?

[] Run out of sight and then shift seeming to lose him among the twisting alleys of Ragman's Harbor
[] Remain here and speak to him
-[] Write in

OOC: Well the dice have decreed an interesting challenge for you this time. Ser Richard could well be the ideal meatshield for you as well as serving a host of other tasks however as a knight he would have issues with your current course of action. Willing to risk trying to charm him?

Mm, I don't think running away is a good idea. Even if we lose him (shouldn't be difficult), he might start going around Braavos and asking questions about Viserys, which is more attention than we want. And if he can act at least somewhat believably, he could support our fake backstory somewhat. So with that in mind...

[X] Remain here and speak to him
-[X] Charm him, finding a more secluded place to have this talk. Then try to find out more about what happened to him since the Battle of the Trident and explain that you (and your sister) are hiding from Robert's assassins among the local criminals for now, with the side goal of taking over at some point and turning their resources to your noble goals. His assistance would be welcome, though you understand if his honor does not permit that. At the very least you hope he can help you with protecting your sister if nothing else.

Though I wonder if using magic on him is a good idea. If he's going to spend any significant time around us, the secret might come out, and he might not be very appreciative if he realizes what we did.

Considering he would be spending long amounts of time with Dany who is not-quite-five and would be inclined to trust him the question is when would he find out not if.

Edit: Also the implication that his honor may be worth more than the honor of his king is non-viable It is all or nothing.

Okay, fixing. If he accepts, we can preempt his discovery of magic and tell him ourselves at a later point.

You're in desperate need of assistance, be it in helping subvert the thieves or protecting your sister, and his aid would be more than welcome.
-[X] Promise him lands in one of the Free Cities should you succeed in your local conquest, with perhaps more once you're ready to return to Westeros.

Okay, money makes the world go round and all that. Anything more will have to wait until we know for sure if we want to come back to Westeros.

You have very little money nor really is that the sort of promise a knight wants to hear.

Edit: also you should keep in mind that if you fail to convince him your name will be "The Thief King" rather than the Beggar King with repercussions every bit as bad for your reputation.

I meant in the future, when we've acquired the dough. And sure, it's not the best incentive, but we can't exactly promise him more lands either, unless we want to commit to the conquest of Westeros. Accolades and fame aren't something we can guarantee, and we're already giving him an important position near the throne (the King's and his sister's bodyguard), so to speak. Or did you mean something else?

That is exactly what I mean you have to commit to ruling somewhere to have a decent chance of securing his loyalty.

Hmm. Then unless people are sure they want to come back to Westeros to rule (I'm not at all certain that will be more interesting), I'll go with lands in/near Braavos.

But we aren't trying to do so with an army from without, we're intending to overthrow the government from within! Amass money and influence, replace/bribe/coerce the magisters and the keyholders, kill off the Sealord, and either take the position for ourselves or give it to a loyal subject. It's a far easier and likely proposition than somehow finding the means to get back our Westeros kingship.

You think it is easier to subvert a city state that has endured for millennia with noble families stretching back that long with politics so arcane few outsiders even understand them than it is to gain a throne you have a claim to?

On top of that this is a city with a historic dislike of Valyria in general and the dragon lords in particular.

Ser Richard would think you as mad as Aerys if you said that to him.

Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer, but there's nothing wrong with having ambition. Even if it's far-fetched it's still possible with patience, diligence and lots of hired swords.

I do think we have other viable targets that seem easier and don't house a guild of assassins that has most likely been operating since the time when Braavos was a refuge for escaped slaves.
