@DragonParadox, is figuring out how the Fey made this place feasible upon studying the programming so to speak? I bet it's somewhat parallel to the way blossoming gods make their own afterlives.

wasn't it noted before that it wasn't the Fey who made it, they just found it?
I believe we speculated that it was a possibility, but that doesn't look like the case here. It does seem to have been created by a faction of the Violet Court, though I doubt it was whipped up in an afternoon. They more likely started quite small a very long time ago, and carefully nurtured it with mind-whammied Petitioners until it became self-sustaining. The plan was probably something centuries if not millennia in the making, the sort of thing only immortal or very long-lived beings could engineer and expect to see bare fruit.

If you guys have questions you can ask them now and I'll cover them in the next update besides Qyburn's report. Better to have that stuff done IC when possible so as not to accidentally cut anyone who skims the discussion out of the answers. It should be noted that the fey you captured do not have all the answers though, they were spies and courtiers not artisans and mage-smiths. Many of them likely perished with the court when you brought down divine smiting upon it.

@DragonParadox, do we have answers to these questions?
1. What triggers it's immune system to generate defenders?
2. How does it generate defenders, monsters and the fake Ironborn? (These are all the same process in the end, but we can observe it under different conditions.)
3. How have the Fey prodded it into taking up and sustaining a the self-destructive behavior pattern?

@DragonParadox, do we have answers to these questions?

  1. Intrusion from the outside that does not come by directed plane shift calls up defenders
  2. Some kind of arcane mutations, using the psycho-morphic properties of farther corners, it does not make things wholesale, but it does seem able to add templates and even deeper transformations. Notably there is no guiding intelligence directing them, they just do as their new nature inclines them
  3. Lya has no idea on that from reading the books. More study is required.

@DragonParadox
1. How are souls bound to the plane?
2. By chance can the plane be manipulated to produce specific matter? Like adamantine mines or something?
3. Would the things taken out of the plane retain their form or no?

No idea how it was done originally, but these people now register as 'native' to the plane to all detection magics
The fey have not used it as a money printing machine so probably not, or at least not unless it fits the place in the real world it is echoing
They hold together unlike normal Limbo 'matter'.

1. Well. That makes "invading" the place much easier.
2. Sound good enough for our purposes. We always knew that we would need Petitioners to forge into Outsiders.
3. Unfortunate.

1. Sounds like the result of the symbiotic relationship leading to the essence of the Crucible and the Petitioners to mingle.
2. & 3.

Okay, I'm lost now.

Someone phrase the Crucible auction's focus in light of the given answers, for me please
[] To Unveil the Crucible (will be turned into an RA/Delve according to rolls after the initial contact): The artificial plane of stable reality in the Limbo is a reason enough for investigation. That it was seemingly modified by the Court of Stars from something that existed there before, and that the true rules of it's working were not known even to them, it is imperative to learn all that is possible - while staying out of any narrative spun by the locals.
-[] Base the research starting point and goals on what's learned through the Fey!Books read by Lya throughout the 4th month and the finds by the overwatch/recon group left in the Crucible in the 4th month.

--[] the Ideal goals: Learn how to keep the place stable (preferably indefinitely) and make it possible to settle by Imperium and Gith forces, while having the Petitioner souls move on to better afterlife alternatives, and revealing the truth to Renly. Also knowing the place's history won't be too bad.

-[] Work with the Gith Researchers sent in - share all our knowledge on Fey that may come of relevance to learning the truths of the place.
----[Standing Scouting team - started in the 4th month] (1 Mind Dragon, 1 Myrkdreki, 3x Shadow Cats, 3x Watchmoles -- all Mindblanked).
----[Research Team (full Mindblank coverage, as the initial group)] Lya's 1st body (4d6 Progress), Wisdom Marwyn (4d6 Progress), Ashin (??d6)
+
Gith Researchers (??d6)
----[Meatshields]: Liomond Lashare (Level 14 Warblade); Sarell of the Black Scales,
+ Gith meatshields
Am slep.

@DragonParadox, this is somewhat off topic, but could we get all the Violet Court's info on the Others? How powerful their ruler is, what champions they're known to have, etc?

That is not really relevant, it has been ages of the world since the two have met in battle, also the faction of illusionists does not match up well ahgainst the people who mostly use undead. The sorts of generalities they know you guys know better.

Part MMMDCCXVII: Extraction of Lore from Olethrodaemon
Extraction of Lore from Olethrodaemon
Tainted by High Order Destructive Energies External to the Standard Model of Existence

By Wisdom Qyburn

Experimental Log #12

Mental Schism exposed to text developing self-destructive patterns along familiar lines, calling up associations of my youth, my travels and other inconsequential elements of my early life. Threat deemed minimal. Compromised alter-self attempting deception poorly.

Terminated.

[...]

Experimental Log #166

Newest tainted mind-shard then seeks to persuade of 'ultimate truths' wielding fallacious arguments I would have recognized as such years, nay decades ago. Again appeal to sentiment.

Terminated.

Hypothesis: The memetic contamination is rendering the schism to even more limited functionality than its initial expression, it is growing more primitive and thus making use of primitive means.

[...]

Experimental Log #1099

Fundamental imitation of daemonic mind confirmed by cross-referencing pages Motivation, Nightmare and Aspiration mages, recurring symbols decoded using three independently verified methods. Daemons are creatures of the Spheres and thus even when freed of its limitation by an external fount of lore 'the Void' they address those they would tempt in terms that would appeal to mortal and once-mortal minds. It could not learn from the process of twisting each mind shard converted to its way of thinking and thus produced thousands of variants on a flawed strategy, addressing Qyburn-Who-Was not Qyburn-Who-Is. One should not assume the weakness is shared by all the Void's servants.

You pause before turning the net page and the meat of the report. If anyone else in your service had to effectively kill a part of themselves over and over again, you would be at the very least apologizing for requiring it of them and probably mandate rest. With Qyburn it is the price of doing business and he is unlikely to appreciate the meddling.

The daemon's plans are wide-ranging and mostly focused on polities close to the Far North, opening the way to the invasion to come, it does not seem to have focused on the Imperium at all:

The Five Forts: Attempt to drive the commander of one of the forts into despair through the use of an ancient Yi Tish scrying mirror than can see beyond the Frozen Sea into the Ice itself. He was shown an implacable impossible to defeat foe with the plan of revealing a 'solution' in the form of a particular form of vampirism, that would in truth place him under the daemon's control. Names of the official as well as trusted family and friends chosen for elimination by the daemon included below.

The Faceless: The daemon was attempting to track down renegade Faceless to corrupt to its service and that of its masters. The only time it managed the feat, in Nefer two months ago, the assassin chose death over abandoning her loyalty. Precise dates and location included for investigators.

Mossovy: Cultists were dispatched with weapons and information which could aid against the Deep Ones to several important tribes. As the people of Mossovy are not maritime and many consider the Deep Ones a distant and unimportant threat the effort have met with limited success.

What if any actions do you take following the report?

[] Send word to Yin about the possible weakness at the Five Forts

[] Discretely send inquisitors to Nefer to see about the Faceless

[] Send a trading mission of your own to Mossovy

[] Write in

OOC: Plots broad strokes because there is no sense developing these threads too much unless you guys decide to pull. Right now all these are background rolls and brief notes.

We should warn him, and maybe set up a trap for their Daemonic patsies. Probably going to need to involve the Azure court for that.

We should investigate Nefer at some point but I'm not sure if it won't have to wait a few months.

Mossovy will be our next trading expedition, probably.

[X] Send word to Yin about the possible weakness at the Five Forts
[X] Next: the apostate Drow-priestess that Dany resurrected: her recovery, level, stats...
-[X] TLDR: can we assign her as a PC yet or no?
