Would we hypothetically convince them to swear to the lords instead of the lords themselves trying to convince them?

Which also empowers the local lords, which we don't want at all. I mean, it's pretty obvious that you want us to do so, but it's running counter to every political choice we ever made.

I don't have a stake in this. I think I may just be explaining this wrong. Step by step it is thus:
  1. Get fey to swear to lord
  2. Use Old Gods to tear out the landwards and change them
  3. Re-achor the wards to some nice stones
  4. Have local lords release fey
  5. The fey now free agents swear to the crown

@DragonParadox, how many heart trees would the Old Gods variant need and would Tier 1's suffice?

@egoo, @Duesal, how is the Larder doing these days?

Seeing as it is for the good cause of fewer Deep Ones and fiends in the Reach 100 Tier 1 Trees will do. 1600 HD total.

So:
We take the larder to grow as many trees as necessary;
Use the Thenn Valley Tree as the central one;
(Optional) Sacrifice the Crown of the CoS to bind them tightly to the pact;

Is that the gist, @Azel?

Wait. We need both the trees and micromanage every Lord in the Reach until they can get their private Fey armies going the moment we are not looking?

Fuck. No.

Not very lord in the Reach, just those who already made the pact with the Court of Stars and there are hardly enough fey in each fief to make an army, many of them do not even have any particular affinity to fighting.

a less convoluted alternative.
And thus the core of every player-centric issue with the entire concept of Fey writ large, with this entire story-arc culminating in a absurdly fuckhuge bastard child between an escort mission and a fetch-quest ever conceived.

You are basically telling us to fetch 1000 Bear asses from 100 different unique mutant subspecies and glue it together into one Major Artifact Bear Ass.

100 Tier-1 trees is an insane amount. o_O
That'd be essentially brute-forcing the issue of a fuckhuge ongoing binding ritual to thousands and thousands of creatures.
That's also supposed to be resistant to tampering, and not break up if someone torches one, five, or a dozen of the said trees.

The numbers are reasonable, and perhaps even a bit low for the matter at hand.

Viserys: "Maelor, your mission, should you choose to accept it..."

I'm in favor of continued research on the Fey/Reach issue. If Lya and her crew can learn this much in a month of effort, maybe another month or two will further their understanding of the underlying structure of the Fey workings such that we can unravel, circumvent, or outright usurp them with far less effort and resources invested.

The question them becomes, how should Lya's group proceed next? Confront the Fey of the Violet Veil, vacate the immediate area, send the Orphne Fey away, etc?

Well yeah, but that is because the Court of Stars does not want you guys breaking their ritual. They did their best to make this thing resilient, this is not the fey being difficult because they are fey, this is a rival faction being skilled at what they do, which is land-bound ritual magic and pact magic.

To put this into perspective this is what the ritualists of the Court of Stars did to make their landwards:
  1. Anchored it to living fey rather than inanimate altars or other objects that could be rededicated, even though it would have been much easier to use the latter
  2. Tied the whole thing to local lords so they would suffer if the wards were damaged o broken
  3. Tied it to the harvest rituals in many places so that the smallfolk who mostly live off farming would protect them as they do their very livelihoods

The idea of sending Eryines assassins to hunt down and kill every single fey involved in these deals is sounding more and more tempting by the minute

[X] Confront the fey of the Violet Veil

But think of how happy the old gods will be!
We can also sacrifice magic items.

The write up made sense to me.
