@Crake, just to be clear. You want to send 3 Legions, the Harbinger and 3 Heralds in addition to the Dawnstar to hunt a bunch of brigands?

Are we absolutely sure that Norvos won't think this is an invasion? Because it might as well be one.

It's a judicious use of force!

Besides, there's like two provinces in-between them and Norvos, and the Eastern Flatlands is one of the bigger ones for that matter.

Would you mind explaining where? I'm making an effort to understand more of how the system works.
Levies were added to Westhaven's number of recruits in the Military sheet, Men at Arms were dumped into garrisons as a placeholder. The numbers you see there are accurate as of the end of the previous month when DP gave us Lorath's military numbers via PM.

It's an army of 15000 with one big dragon like construct and 3 smaller ones. You could conquer half of westeros with that.

Try losing most of the army, go for a targeted strike force, that way you keep most of the actual power but it looks less like they are there to stay.

Yeah, my bad. I thought that the Eastern Flatlands were at the border with Norvos.

Unless the makeup of the Legion was greatly changed, it should be around 10,000 people per Legion, for 30,000 in total.

There ain't terribly many forces on Planetos who could slow that down.

By the way, does the Imperial Time's monster manual have a mechanical effect for people who own copies, or is it just flavor?
Hm, if they have it on hand, someone could describe what they saw and they could probably identify it that way. But it's not supremely useful beyond telling people if something has been spotted in the area, what not to do and what will actually work. Having people trying to ward it off with fake-ass talismans or garlic in typical peasant fashion is the biggest reason for disseminating these.

The reality is, these entries will teach people whatever they know about monsters and 'snarks and grumpkins' is wrong, and to leave it to the experts.

Interlude DCCLXXV: Conjurer's Accounting
Conjurer's Accounting

Second Day of the Frst Month 294 AC

Though Malarys Vanor had come to accept the virtues of raucous public celebration in binding together disparate peoples into a single realm he could never bring himself to enjoy them. Oh, there were parts he would quite like to see, the new plays, the art exposition, the sky dances, but these were all things he could enjoy either from the comfort of his own balcony or simply later when the press of humanity was not quite so overwhelming.

As he turned away from the window he was briefly reminded of a now long dead colleague remarking that he would have made an excellent hermit if only his principal talents did not lie in the ordering and judgement of his fellow man. The faintest shadow of a wistful smile passed his lips then. He would do something at least somewhat social before his next assignment, perhaps follow up on Archon Zherys' invitation to dine with him in Volantis in two days time or even Lady Phassen's. While Malarys found most of the Archonic Council painfully self-important and perhaps possessed of one tenth of the wit collectively as they thought they had individually, the lady herself was a skilled sorceress and shrewd ruler well worth conversing with.

For now he needed something to do without leaving the sanctuary of his office. The mage lord's eyes fall on a particular stack of fine paper tied in black ribbon, still smelling of brimstone and blood. It was rare indeed for a devil to manage to slip in a false name under interrogation, but it had happened a time or two which was why it was now common practice to divine the list. Usually, however, the trouble was not so much trickery close to home as the names had never held power to begin with when traded through Hell's dark paths. On occasion the names had even been those of far more powerful baatezu offered up in the hopes of destroying a careless rival, not that this was a concern for conjuring here in Sorcerer's Deep. After all, the great Lords of Hell were unlikely to misplace their names in the possession of some petty fiend.

  1. 13 Salikotals (117 HD) ,9 Ink Devils (Unaffiliated) -> 5 Salikotals, 2 Imps, 3 Ink Devils (Unaffiliated)
  2. 9 Accomplice Devils, 2 Dogai (Servants of Asmodeus), 3 Anygavhaul -> 1 Dogai, 7 Magaav, 9 Gaav, 2 Accomplice Devils (Servants of Asmodeus)
  3. 3 Lead Devil , 2 Harvester Devils (Servants of Mammon) -> 8 Erinyes, 3 Atropocustra (Servants of Mammon)
  4. 3 Phistophilus (Servants Mephistopheles) -> 1 Phistophilus (Servants Mephistopheles)

Alas nothing extraordinary, though certainly however many of the furies might be interested in better laws to serve would be welcomed with open arms. It was a touch surprising to see the name to three atropocustra on the list. Addiction devils were quite uncommon and not well respected by their fellows, their skills came dangerously close to not only using mortal passion to ensnare their souls, but actively inflaming them, adding to the strength of the Abyss, not Baator. On the one hand that raised a potential negotiating tactic while on the other Malarys was not certain he wanted such beings plying their mind-bending trade in the Empire, whether they were doing it ostensibly in the service of the Crown or not.

In the end he appended a mildly worded warning to the final report. If the King did choose to seek the services of such beings they would hardly be the most dangerous beings the Inquisition would be tasked with watching for.

OOC: And here we are. Vote on the turn plan will close tomorrow morning.

Nice, the Flock of Furies will grow even stronger.

Malarys' POV is always refreshing.

@DragonParadox, you did take into the account that there was one group of Mammon's devils who already told us about Erynies, yes?

Also, for the sake of the bookkeeping, mind spelling out which group questioned led to which batch of names?
Thanks/

We should really start looking into getting a recruiter in Erebus. Or at least a shady dealer in Dis who can pass the word. I mean, we should have some devils who come willingly by this point. Or do we need to shank the Noodle harder this time? Damn, that last part sounds like an euphemism for masturbation

There's a component of honor and pride to it. Abandoning your post is offensive, but considering an offer of service from someone who can take on the burden of absenting oneself from it means that those who dislike their current position can maintain both honor AND pride. After all we sought them out, and even offered to return them to their post despite the abject failure of operational security allowing their True Name to be known to the wrong fiend was.

Still, the recruiting is going awfully slow.

We need to shank someone else for the right to loot their devils. Dispater maybe? Don't like that prick.

They're all rather loathsome. Even Bel. That guy is a backstabber. It's literally built into his lore! That's how he became an Archduke. Biding his time and then slowly cannibalizing his boss for Hell energy.

I think one of the big things we can do to increase the recruitment rate is finishing Siduri's sidequest and shanking that one devil in Dis that has a bone to pick with her. Some CR 20+ Devil, I forget what kind. Once that's taken care of we should presumably end up with quite a few diabolical resources (and Siduri's undivided attention) in recruiting more Mammon devils.

Yeah, we need to schedule for that at some point too. Do we have any time free, not now, but on the next turn plan?

I don't see it happening any time in the near future. Our immediate worries are the Court of Stars and the Deep Ones. And also making sure Asmodeus doesn't get too big a foothold in Prime Material.

I don't think that's a good idea; we got away with it once due to special circumstances. Even then we were one roll away from Waymar and Richard - at the very least - ending up in Hell. We'd almost certainly lose, and if by some miracle we managed to do so with grace we can't really afford another major enemy.
