But letting Ashford choose would work?

I for one am sorely disappointed that Richard can crown the Queen of Love and Beauty and Mereth isn't anywhere to be seen.
It's not like Viserys couldn't contact Mereth via Sending and ask her to hop on over, perhaps in the form of Meredith the Mystery Maiden, Queen of Blood and Booty?

Let's not ask Mereth, the no-nonsense fallen angel, to take part in our pedestrian amusements.

You know her teleports are accompanied by some of that good old brimstone and sulfur smell?

Surely the Fey would notice and they are likely less amused by devils than by bards.

We need to plan more missionschaperone more dates with Richard and Mereth.

Also, I'm not really sure why we've suddenly flipped to wing manning for Lord Owen. I mean, sure, in another circumstance I wouldn't be against it. But the original idea was to do something nice for Rina. Everyone whose was in the know and/or opinion we cared about would be fine with it, and damned with the rest. Letting Lord Owen choose seems like undercutting a friend to ship for shipping's sake.

it is still something nice for Rina. Rina gets her time in the sun and while it is a romantic gesture now (not that it will mean much) it will ultimately make her happy. Which is what is important. Well if he chooses her. That is.

No, Rina's along because we were doing a bit of light political maneuvering that got sidetracked for a mighty need to amuse ourselves and take it easy.

Owen will probably also choose to crown Rina, so the result is ultimately the same, except the context turns from platonic friendship to a man trying to woo her since apparently Lord Ashford has the hots for her.

I meant when idea of giving Rina the crown was first proposed, not why she was along in the first place.

Nothing is stopping Owen from openly telling Rina he fancier her. Letting him crown a Queen of Love and Beauty is just giving Owen a convenient opportunity to express what may or may not be a passing fancy, not a gift to Rina. I know we often try to kill two birds with one stone, but in this case trying to have our cake and eat it too cheapens to act.

I'm not too hung up over the initial reason for suggesting her. It was a nice gesture which avoided having to make any entanglements or create an awkward situation for later, which was more important than giving Rina some time in the limelight--something she wouldn't exactly be thrilled about given her social awkwardness anyway.

I'm not even doing this because I want to ship Rina with anyone, mind you, I'm choosing to do so because it is more exciting, and Rina doesn't need a white knight to shield her from advances from another man, she has a literal dragon hovering over her shoulder going 'you're next' to the first one to make her uncomfortable.

I'm not particularly hung up on it, and I don't think any of the characters will read too deeply into our actions given the context. I just do not agree with the reasoning that holds being a wingman is an indirect gift to the woman who is the target of affection.

I don't think anyone thinks that, is the thing?

It's more like the context that we were going to give her a gift wasn't even in mind when thinking "do a nice thing". If anything, it's a gift to Lord Owen, and even that isn't our chief concern for voting for it.

As a Bard (False), if it makes things more entertaining, that's what we'll choose to do!

OK the vote is pretty close but this isn't the most weighty of votes so

Part MMMCDXXI: Of Flowers and Frost
Of Flowers and Frost

Twenty Fourth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

"I must confess I did no ride to this tourney with thoughts of love or beauty in mind, though there is much of the latter all around me and of the former sure to bloom." The somewhat poetic declaration falls uneasily from Ser Richard's lips, though you have no doubt there are ladies aplenty who now imagine the mysterious knight who had won both joust and melee has eyes only for them. "I leave it then to my host, and the knight who almost unhorsed me at the end, to crown the Queen of Love and Beauty as he wills."

In those brief moments before you had suggested the plan Ser Richard had confessed in jest he was inclined to toss the crown into the stands so 'they may win it fairly.' You had a different hope for the end of this tourney than to institute a new competition among the ladies in attendance.

Ser Owen Ashford takes the crown with the sort of rueful smile that says he understood how little Ser Richard wanted the honor and had been amused at the prospect. The expression fades as he considers it a moment then turns to his left where Rina is seated far enough away to maintain propriety, yet close enough to show favor.

"My lady, it would be an honor if you would allow these flowers of Ashford to grace your beauty." That was a surprisingly thoughtful way to make the offer, allowing the possibility of refusal without too much insult.

You catch sight of Dany nodding, somber as a Braavosi tax judge.

It is clear from her expression that Rina is not inclined to refuse, beyond lingering hesitation of being the center of attention by all end sundry. "My thanks, my lord, for thy kind words and flowers both," she says a little too softly to be heard beyond the lord's box, though her words are no doubt carried further by hurried whispers.

The crown itself is crimson poppies plucked from Ashford Meadow itself, a stark contrast against Rina's dark hair, though as it is set upon her brow she tenses. She is worried the chill of her magic might wilt them, you realize in a flash. Yet when you ask upon a spell-wrought wind if she wants you to cast a spell to keep them safe your friend shakes her head.

Ice crystals race upwards and outwards among the blooms and over them, not blackening or wilting but capturing the red to leave it all the brighter, preserved as the moment is in memory.

To his credit Lord Ashford takes the obvious act of magic in stride, intrigued rather than wary. According to Dany he thinks Rina is some manner of fey lady, a suspicion not that far from the truth come to think of it. He had also somehow concluded that Rina is the leader of your small party somehow. You wonder how he would react to the truth of your presence.

How do you introduce yourself to Lord Owen Ashford and of what do you speak?
