[X] Ser Richard will perform on a Warhorse trained in the Imperial Stables to take well to his commands, in masterwork hardened armor to reduce the chances of injury, and he will have his usual talismans at hand to both heal himself or anyone else who gets hurt grievously by accident or otherwise as he will be closer to such an event than the fey healers will be--but he won't use any overt magic otherwise. If someone tries to accuse him of cheating it will be clear to see that he is likely even less well armed, using normal tourney lances, than some of the knights taking the field. This is a more important event and none shall say he won by trickery... well, no more trickery than the guise he bears.
-[X] You on the other hand will be ready for anything, and hopefully delivering a masterful performance as his "squire" and as a bard.
You mean the horse will be in masterwork barding, right? Not that Richard will use lesser armor than his normal suit?

I think we should at least cast Heroics on Richard to give him the Mounted Combat feat for authenticity, plus Greater Heroism (more for the bonus to his Ride checks than anything) and maybe an imbued Divine Insight spell, if he need a to make a very impressive Ride check, such as one to save his horse from injury.

If you wanna use spells, go right ahead.
Nah, it's no biggy. Mechanically, the only reason Richard would need those I mentioned would be to make Ride checks to keep his horse from being injured, but that shouldn't really be an issue in a sporting joust.

"Hope she has the good sense to put that gold to something lasting not useless fripperies ," is all he says.
Adventuring? Adventuring. The only question is whether she seeks tutelage somewhere close to home or makes the journey to Sorcerer's Deep to join the Scholarium. We'll have to leave a note that any applicant who lists 'Buttercup the Bard' as a reference should be considered to have our personal endorsement.

During the Sorcerers Deep Tourney I helped DP roll those.

Both combatants make a regular attack roll against each other + Charging. If damage is dealt, that is the DC for the ride check to stay in the saddle.
Good thing Richard has a resting AC of 47 against a designated foe.

That would actually be pretty cool. Her first taste of adventure would be running away from home and purchasing passage to Sorcerer's Deep. Her winnings are more than enough to do so, travel in relative luxury, then make a comfortable life for herself in SD while attending the Scholarium, military college, engineering school, or whatever institution of higher learning/adventurer preparatory program she wishes.

It goes against touch AC, since you are intentionally hitting the breastplate instead of trying to go for weak points.
Still not too bad, then, as Richard's Touch AC vs a designated foe is 29. Barring magic or much higher than normal Dexterity, his opponents are more likely to be in the 10 to 12 range.

Would be funny if she ends up happy as a clam in a glamourless position as a gunner on a Moonchaser vessel.

Mind you. We need names for the two new ones built this month.

Nah. The girl is going to Bard college, obviously. I think it is safe to say that Buttercup left an impression.

@Azel I have a question, since it seems vanishingly unlikely that Richard won't hit even if he does get hit himself (his Touch AC is pretty damn high though), doesn't that mean he'll either draw or... no, they get mounted again and ride another tilt if they both get knocked off, right?

That makes it likely Richard will take them down the next tilt if he's just always smashing his lance dead-on with their chest.

Yeah. If both are unseated, they tilt again. Happened a few times in SD if I remember correctly.

I just re-watched an old Mythbusters episode, the one about measuring the distance mucus can travel when propelled by a sneeze, and how easily someone with a runny nose can transfer their infectious secretions when they're not careful.

I'd forgotten just how gross that episode was the first time I saw it. With the current COVID-19 pandemic growing worse by the day, that episode should be mandatory viewing for pretty much everyone, IMO.

Of course, the segment in the episode about tornado-driven flying glass inflicted decapitation should be optional.
