the Shadow Fortress is still surrounded by a army's worth of undead Sarnori.
Well, all the more a reason to deal with all of the Sarnori Undead next month!

...No, I'm not letting this go.
:V

@DragonParadox, what do we know of the Sarnori Undead's organization/location/leaders, once again?
We had a fair bit of infodump some long time ago, but by now it all probably thoroughly changed.

Quick question @DragonParadox are all the undead sentient or do they have some sort of master controlling them? Like is there undead lords who control the swathes of undead that exist or are they all just sentient and playing a macabre imitation of their life?

Interlude DCCXXXVI: Bloody Mischief
Bloody Mischief

Thirteenth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

The dark spirits had been ready to run, of course they were. Things that liked to nest in human skin and souls and rotting them from within rarely fancied risking their own skin. Glyra barred her teeth in anger at the snarling half-ape half-wolf thing that was throwing enchanted mortals in their path while it tried to run, it was fast and it was clever the way it was weakening the wooden floor even as it swung from the rafters with its long double-jointed arms, but Glyra was faster and cleverer. The chain rattled in her hand, the blood-feather weightless as a dream in her back pocket. She could take the high road too.

The joints broke as easily as she had expected, though she had not expected the eyes to explode with enough force to singe her eyebrows.

"Gracious kami-clothed-in-form forgive..." the man behind her swallowed his words as though in fear, though there were no more foes in the room. Oh right... still wearing human guise. Mortals were troubled to see what looked like their children fighting, though for the life of her Glyyra could not say why. Children were after all among the most likely to get into a good scrap, all most of them were missing was the power to do so, and as Dany showed when they got that power they were really fun to be around.

"This way," a piece of wood and ivory paneling exploded under the man's hand, leading into a dark and narrow passage. "I have word that the abomination managed to evade the first thrust and is fleeing. We must be the flame that cleanses this accursed line."

Glyra idly wondered if they were going to miss out on killing the prince of the dark court because the mortals with them needed to use so many words to describe how one of their lords had become corrupted without ever talking about it properly for fear of 'bringing dishonor to those who wear the Blue'.

***

Unfortunately, they had not been the only ones who had followed the monster into the bowels of the castle for when they saw the oni, grim and terrible still with skin blue as old bruises and eyes bright as the madness in the heart of a storm, they also saw Vrath broken on the floor. Dead Glyra knew at a glance looking at his neck, though it was clear from the many long thin gashes carved into the giant's chest and legs that the borrowed jade swords had reaped no small price for his death.

He never even noticed the gremlin coming close, wand at the ready. The blast of ice cold magic freezing its limbs in place, that it noticed. The taunt of 'Oi, farts for brain, over here', just made him look at Glyra with particular displeasure. Then it spat lightning at her, well her and everything else behind her, but Glyra was pretty sure the Yi Tish mages and warriors were far enough back not to get hit, unless they were sneakier than they looked which would make it all the more a pity if they got cooked.

Glyra did not like doing the same trick twice, but she really did not fancy being squished by a giant so she slashed the wand through the air again, this time hitting the enemy in the head.

Then some kind of bloody sneaky fellow in black who was definitely not on her side landed on top of her, swinging what looked to all the world like a tool to trim crops. It was plenty sharp enough to almost trim one of Glyra's ears off. Quick on her feet as ever the gremlin smashed the butt of the staff in her left hand into the ground and filled the whole tunnel with stinging bugs. That aught to keep 'em busy...

A bolt of emerald light flickered from behind her, striking the black clad figure stone dead.

"Thanks for the help!" she shouted cheerfully while trying to evade the angry giant's blows.

One... two... three... four... five ribs broken. That was a new personal record, Glyra thought, grinning through the pain. He was still covered in frost.

Even as one of the fellows with the big swords came for the dark, spirit shouting something about a duel, she took aim with the wand again and cast. The giant collapsed shivering.

Vrath was going to be sorry he missed such a good scrap when they brought him back. Glyra wondered why the fellow with the sword looked like he'd bitten into something rotten.

OOC: I thought about doing this from Vrath's perspective, but that would have required one more interlude since this one could not go past his own death and I was not entirely comfortable with writing a character's death as their first PoV scene.

poor vrath, oh well at least we can rez him if he wants to come back and it dounds like he did do a number on his opponant. my question is if it was bad rolls or being out classed

@DragonParadox
Did any people from the Azure's own court participate here?

I could almost think the fellow who just lost his chance for a nice duel is one of mine, the Emperor's Sword.

Being outclassed rather badly. He was not supposed to slug it out with a CR 16 enemy on his own, he was trying to surreptitiously follow

That is indeed the person Glyra's success left... less than enthused.

Ever since I read the Disharmony of The Planes infodump, I've been wondering in the background whether there are any ways we could take advantage of The Inevatables being sorta defunct as a planar police force, in a way that:
  1. We're not already doing.
  2. Wouldn't further damage the currently fragile spheres.
  3. Wouldn't be so heinous to them that they abandon their posts and try to kill us, presumably leading to terrible consequences.
I mean, I'm pretty sure that if the planes were in harmony at the moment, our... liberal use of resurrections and targeted rebirth/reincarnations would soon draw the robo cops to our door, but I don't really have that much of a grasp what else is on their Lists, but aren't actively corruptive to planar stability.

Poor man.
After months of kinda existing in the backround, maybe standing behind his boss while others talk, he had a chance to shine and then a household-pest of a fey was faster.
:D

Glyra would certainly enjoy her victory even more if she knew.
Glyra'a talent seems to be in making self-important people look like fools, isn't it?

Don't worry, Snake Bro, we'll bring you back good as ever. Well, good as ever once you earn enough XP to make up for the level loss from being Resurrected.

Maybe he leveled up already and it will all work out so that he effectively stays at his current level, eh, @DragonParadox? ;)

Always great to see Glyra stirring the pot, too. She truly is the 'Most Powerful Gremlin in the World!(TM)'.

We could Wild Arcana a True Resurrection y'know. Cleric spells are on our spell list.

Haven't worked that out yet.

  • [X] Plan "Zombie Pirates, ahoy!"
-[X] Team Zherys will keep the Shadow Fortress under guard while collecting evidence. Lady Saenena will use Blood Wish to try to collect samples of escaped VIPs for Scrying purposes.
-[X] Viserys will use Wild Arcana to open a portal Gate connecting the Imperial Demiplane to the site of battle in Yi-Ti so that our forces can begin return to Sorcerer's Deep. The portal will be guarded by a squad of Erinyes, Glass Golems, Minotaurs, the Adamantine Golem, and the Harbinger until we can return to close it. All of our dead will be gathered so that we may restore them later, along with anything resembling loot (treasure, Petrified Clerics, Drake corpses, etc), and returned to Sorcerer's Deep. If the corpses of any sacrifices made to Tiamat can be recovered, they will also be collected so that we may attempt to restore them to life. Erinyes and Heralds will scour the battlefield and remains of the Golden Company camp for anything of interest, either retrieving it or marking it for later pickup.
--[X] Malarys, Rina, Nettles, Amrelath, and three Fiery Dragonbeasts will stay behind to supervise and help guard the site until we can return for one last sweep to collect evidence.
--[X] Dany and Lya, along with Sandor and the Seeker, will stay in Sorcerer's Deep to keep Rhaella company while they continue to Scry for escaped Golden Company mages and other VIPs. Three Fiery Dragonbeasts will join in flying a patrol over and around Sorcerer's Deep for now.
--[X] Viserys, Richard, Tyene, Waymar, Vee, Yrael, and Mereth and a squad of her fellow Erinyes, along with the Mind Dragons, Seawyrms, Grand Dragon Turtles, Shadebreacher Sperm Whales, and some of our assorted aquatic forces will move out to help put down the Risen Band of Nine.
---[X] If Viserys believes there is enough time before we need to engage the Risen Nine in defense of our Sothoryosi holdings, he will use the Magic Bedroll for one hour to recover his spell slots, then quickly visit the Golden Company camp/battlefield to use a Miracle spell to gather what viable samples of escaped VIPs can be found for Scrying purposes.
