We have radically different perspectives here.

We are not the Old Gods' servants, we're their allies. And more than that, they and Bloodraven trust us to handle this lore at our own discretion. There are no complaint or requests from them to share their Heart Tree lore precisely because there is a history of trees being defiled if in the wrong hands. Viserys on the other hand is trusted.

We are under absolutely no obligation to share this lore with anyone.
We're not the old gods servants, I never said we were, my perspective on things is just that not even asking them if they want to negotiate about growing Heart trees with others is being a bad ally, just like I would expect our allies to mention us, if they negotiated with someone likely to buy Fungus Forge creatures, being allies and business partners, mean helping each other advance your respective businesses, including mutually giving each other free advertising, when you make a deal with someone, who would have use for your business partners specialty as well.

Set up chapters are great, @DragonParadox. They just mean the story is still developing.

I'm looking forward to Mors' reaction to Mia dropping a couple Invisible Hippogriffs on someone's head. :V

so back again with random questions while catching up (at the start of month 7 now) but i just wanted to know if the map of sorcerers deep has had any major updates recently becouse the last change for it's post was in januari 2019 according to the post. anyway back to binging
Afaik, no, we haven't had anything new of significance built there yet.
We are planning(?) to expand the network of gun-emplacements, and the coral-settlement for Tritons and such water-based beings is being built in the harbor (literally underwater) - as will soon another Planar Terminus leading to Vialesk - but neither are ready.

This is one of those things where we'll just have to disagree.

We're overdue on having Bloom the Brijidine design a megastructure lighthouse for us in Sorcerer's Deep.

We... probably can have her spend an action on that in the 1st month?

Building anything Megaproject/Megastructure-like while at war with the Deep Ones will be kinda retarded, but we'll have the plans if nothing else.

@Azel, @Crake, what was it, making the lighthouse into single biggest gun emplacement around?(while aesthetically pleasing AF, ofc)
Or something esle?
I'm genuinely not sure if we ever settled on any plans for it since Diomedon bringing it up for the first time.

Giant Red Dragon looking over the harbor?
Pharos of Alexandria-like build?
Etc.

It's honestly not something that would need an action, it's just a giant lighthouse that Bloom uses as a chance to show off some nice pro-Imperium art.

Granted, if people want to pimp the lighthouse out, that would require enchanting time.

Inserted tally

Part MMMCCXCI: Of Battles that Were and Those that May Yet Be
Of Battles that Were and Those that May Yet Be

Sixth Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

"Truth be told, Elder One, I had no part in crafting the Moonchaser or her sister vessels, beyond providing funding and resources, along with encouraging those with the gift of artifice and a skill for innovation," you explain, thankful that the crew is prepared to fire and even more so that they will not have to do so in anger.

Somewhat to your surprise Althazi's gaze falls upon Lya at once, but the dragon does not comment as the ship is put through her paces by a proud Moonsong, all too happy to oblige. "A very robust armament. Conceived for heavy use without resupply?"

"Mostly conceived to strike as hard as possible without requiring the higher spheres of enchantments," Lya replies ruefully. "Though as is often the case for innovative solutions, doing so unveiled other advantages of the design."

"As for the cloak," you interject, guiding the discussion away from too deep a look at the Moonchaser. "The Lord of Minauros thought to challenge me to what he thought was a sure wager, but which I proved otherwise." You chuckle a little remembering the battle, or rather the aftermath of that brief deadly skirmish.

"What reason had the Lord of the Third to wager against you?" you note with some satisfaction that there is a measure of respect mixed with the curiosity in his voice.

"Mammon took exception to my attempt to employ a number of erinyes who no longer wished to remain in his service. Alas for him, his Avatar made an embarrassing showing, after which it's hide was peeled from it's still warm corpse while it's blood, bones, and flesh were harvested for experimentation and its venom extracted for alchemical preservation."

"Commendable thrift," Althazi hisses. "Most wyrms as young as you are in truth would have been tempted to devour the remains for power, but patience yields the richest harvest." The words prove to be a signal to one of his warriors to swim down and stand between you. "Witness my immortals. Trolls are inclined to overconfidence and savagery in battle, believing themselves beyond harm until something or someone proves otherwise. With care, training and the proper incentive to maintain discipline they can be far more deadly. The first lesson is to not let them trust their innate healing to see them through a battle. I have at no small expense of time and effort trained healers from among their own ranks, one out of every fifty, one hundred and sixty it all."

So eight thousand sea trolls in total, you calculate, strong disciplined assault companies even excluding the might of their master.

"The mages can also strengthen their arms or their minds as required. More importantly their armor provides a ward against all common compulsions as well as serving as well as any forged armor and regenerating with the the bearer. As long as they are not sent into a lifeless waste they require no resupply. So tell me, cousin, how much are such services worth to you, in lore or in coin? If the offer should prove interesting I will even lead them myself," Althazi continues.

Once his lord had finished speaking the troll offers to duel any champion you care to name as a demonstration of strength and skill at arms.

What do you reply?

@DragonParadox, can we get a vague idea on his price so we don't spend the next three updates on bargaining back and forth?

Well consider what the price of his army, keeping in mind that a scrag with no equipment is CR 5 with their equipment that is CR 7 with the mages (1 in 50 of the force) being cleric creatures which pushes them to CR 8. Based on what such a force would cost to hire normally at the prices on the front page you guys can decide how much to pledge for hiring them temporarily.

Hm.
For the length of their service to us they'll have combat-beasts made to their specifications - that definitely should be a part of the offer, seeing how those changed the tune of the mercenary companies we bought the last month.

As to whether they'll get to keep such war-beasts... depends entirely on how they act in our service.
Who knows, maybe he'll be up to being vassalized after all blows over. :V

We can simply throw coin at them, but that's... suboptimal, either they see "Hey, we have lots to gain from raiding that place after we finish with the squids!", or they drain a lot of our frankly "too-built-on-looting-the-Efreeti"-economy.

Mhm.
We have some neat lore that can enhance the Trolls in the long run, though-
@everyone, how about sharing this? Not too dangerous even if he chooses to fight us later on, but seems highly useful for such a force.
Meditations on the Infinite

Description:
A book of esoteric Lengi meditations that promises insights into the deeper nature of the world, but whose preface written in a trembling hand by a Braavosi scribe makes it clear that the answers may fracture the mind likely as strengthening it.

Content: Grants A reader that succeeds on a DC 15 Wisdom check, Instead of sleeping can enter deep meditation - spending half as much time as needed normally to sleep. On succeeding a DC 20 check, this meditation counts for purposes of restoring spellslots and other pools as regular sleep, as well as for preparing spells. On succeeding DC 25 check, this meditation counts as sleep for purposes of healing. Every night after the first, you have to roll a DC 10 + (number of nights not slept) Will save or the meditation fails and you are fatigued as if you hadn't rested at all. That DC lowers by 1 for every night slept normally again. The effect doesn't stack with other methods of sped-up sleep or restoring resources.
@DragonParadox, will he even be interested in this? I assume since it will allow greater logistical ability to his trolls if they succeed the rolls - and he probably can implement such teaching well enough too.
Halving the time needed for sleep, even if a limited number of times, would be priceless for militarised mercenaries... I think.

I am inclined towards generosity.

Any inovations or technology that would be useful for his army would go over well I imagine.

While the clerics would have a decent chance of passing that, and ordinary rolls would roll 1d20-1 for wisdom so not that good for mass deployment.

Okay. So we're looking at...
So eight thousand sea trolls in total, you calculate, strong disciplined assault companies even excluding the might of their master
8,000 equipped Sea Trolls being CR 7 and:
The first lesson is not to trust their innate healing to see them though a battle. I have at no small expense of time and effort trained healers from among their own ranks, one out of every fifty, one hundred and sixty it all."
160 Sea Troll Clerics presumably equipped being CR 8.

Standard CR Pricing is as follows:
CR 1: 450 Gold
CR 2: 600 Gold
CR 3: 900 Gold
CR 4 :1200 Gold
CR 5: 1800 Gold
CR 6: 2400 Gold
CR 7: 3600 Gold
CR 8: 4800 Gold
CR 9: 7200 Gold
CR 10: 9600 Gold

So we'd be looking at 8000 Equipped Sea Trolls x 3600 IM + 160 Equipped Sea Troll Clerics x 4800 IM, which would cost a total of... 29,568,000 IM.

What the fuck.

EDIT: We're definitely not hiring all of them. This would carve a HUGE chunk out of the treasury.

@DragonParadox, could we try to sell him the detailed specs on some of our biological weapons, such as the Seeker's poisons or other similar flesh-crafting?
The idea isn't to give him a Fungus Forge, it's to give him as much information as possible (and samples) so that he can figure out how to reverse-engineer them with his own (probably inferior) fleshcrafting methods.
This is also why I'm suggesting poison and not an SLA.

Similarly, could we offer to grant a Template to his Trolls en masse? I'm sure we could use our Flesh Forge for that.

EDIT : @Duesal, that's why I'm suggesting that we pay in Lore and information.

There's the question of how much those will be valued. If we pay in templates, for example, I imagine we still have to pay to integrate those templates in the first place. ~8000 trolls would be a lot to cover.
True, but I'm hoping that it will be cheaper than hiring them and will be worth a bunch to him - maybe enough to get him to intervene personally, if only to check we aren't subverting his troops and to keep them alive so that more live and keep benefiting from the Templates.

Actually we might be more likely to sell him detailed knowledge of how to slap a Template on a Troll, and classes with our Forgemaster so he could get the theory in. Again this would be part of the "get him Lore he can try to reverse-engineer and give him a leg up on the engineering" idea.

Or could we give him a breeding population of Trolls with an inheritable Template of some sort? I'm going to bed (midnight here, busy tomorrow) so I can't look through all Templates, but surely we've got to have a few inheritable Templates by now.
EDIT : Draconic creature, maybe?

That would be if you wanted to acquire their services permanently which is not even on offer. The fee for a single campaign would be closer to 1% of that, 295,680

  1. Yes to the first
  2. No to the second, you guys can't grant templates to existing being especially sentient ones with strange boitech

This isn't pricing for leasing services. Or at least I don't think @DragonParadox calculates based on that scale. We could buy permanently that kind of support via our own efforts in flesh craft, it doesn't make sense for temporary service to cost an equivalent amount.
