So I've been rereading some old discussion, and I have a few questions :
  • Are we planning on making the Imperial Times a monthly thing?
  • Will we be getting more rumors this month? I love rumor posts!
  • @DragonParadox, has Nettles started retraining? Is she fully retrained yet? I can link her sheets again if needed.

  • And having found tarrangar's old "would you rather", I'm suggesting a variant :
    • Would you rather be a level 20 commoner known to all Gods as "that human you can devour for a whole pile of power" ?
      • at quest start with no starting gear, starts wherever you like, constant Mind Blank, retraining into a martial class is possible, +1 Mythic Rank every 10 years and eventual ascension to Godhood after a few centuries,
    • Would you rather be a level 20 commoner who needs to steal 4 divine Domains by the end of the century or be utterly obliterated ?
      • at quest start with no stating gear (so no Ancestral Relic), starts in Mantarys, can retrain into Ur-priest if a teacher is found or once you steal your first domain, domains stolen will influence you but will grant you power
    • Would you rather be a level 20 Mountebank who needs to steal his soul back from Dispater?
      • at quest start, any race (but Half-Devil obviously), start in the Bazaar and wanted for a thieft you probably did commit but can't remember, gear focused on infiltration but worthy of your level, simplest method to get your soul back is to bargain for it (Dispater is absolutely not interested in selling the soul of a level 20 PC) somehow but killing Dispater also works. Retraining is impossible until you get your soul back

*rolls for it*

Huh... that's impressive. Yeah she's finished retraining.

She's not a major focus at all though. Our main priorities are Tiamat and the Others. I doubt we can kill Tiamat, but the Others probably have a Divine leader despite being nothing but patsies for the Void. This divine leader will be our first target.

Although it could be a high Mythic opponent, I guess.
I'm not saying that she's a high priority, but she might be the earliest target of opportunity.
She is below CR 30, her location is in a place we can reach, the Plane of Fire, and her domains are highly digestible for us.

If we see a chance, we might take it. If not, not.

We can write another issue of the Imperial Times. We'll have to consider the contents though. They don't all have to be doorstoppers, I suppose, but some regular standby articles seem prudent. We were serializing (some of) our adventures, for one thing.

This.
New issue contents :
  • More of our adventures (start at "us defeating the Lannister fleet while keeping as many of our subjects alive, going straight for the leadership" and end at "Lannisters and Deep Ones burning our town down, us countering with magic and rebuilding everything")
  • Information about that weird rainbow light thing the other week (Jazirian introduced to the masses)
  • Upcoming : new fertility ritual blessed by the Earth mother! Who is she? Here are some basic precepts!
  • Tyene describing the Imperial Court in Yi-Ti for curious readers
  • Introducing the Moonchaser!
  • We've spoken to Rhllor, and he's a bro. Also we're definitely not Azor Ashai, and our government is still not naming an official religion. (yes, saying that right after saying we've spoken to their God is meant to maintain ambiguity...)
  • Breaking : Syrax not dead! Turns out that killing a goddess of Prophecy is complicated. She's seen you coming, and she had a plan!
  • Latest war news : Companions, Zherys, various Dragons, Teana and allied Archmages united to fight off an attack by Efreet slavers who wanted to raid a part of our Empire. Their flying ship was caught as it crossed Valyria, secure in its invincibility amidst the eternal flames of the Fourteen Fires. How could mere humans reach it here without burning to death?
  • For the Westeros issue : Empire's official position regarding the Seven is "no fighting needed!" New temple described, here's what they've been preaching, and we've peacefully met with the Chosen of the Maiden and agreed to fight the Deep Ones and devils together whenever needed.

Seems like a hard thing to divine.
We could always try leaving piles of gold and chained up devils underneath boxes propped up on one side by sticks or something. :V

These are desperate dragon gods we're taking about. They could see a trap coming and still trigger it because they lose focus around shiny objects and blood sacrifice about as hard as Oberyn does around a new type of outsider he hasn't gotten to hit on yet.

They're not really... traditional dragon gods. Though I doubt being a purely "Valyrian God" with all the baggage that goes with it is much better. Though I think they're probably more similar than they'd like to admit, "complacency" is a position both share.

I would save this for when we're about to kick off our War in the Deep.

I like how trollish this is. That's not at all what was happening but does it matter?

*playing with fire intensifies*

The rest is pretty tame though, besides the general hubbub around posting ads for our pagan gods.

Throw in a few more propaganda pieces and you've got a whole issue.

I think while having R'hllor separate from the Imperial God/Dream as a failsafe in case we die is a good idea, we should leave any implications that his religion isn't government approved. That could cause unnecessary headaches.

What's the average peasant's grasp of magic like at the moment? Not on a technical level, but just the broad strokes. Even if it doesn't do them any good people tend to calm down when they know more about a topic; it makes them feel like they have more control.

We could add a basic run down of how various mages gain power, it might be a good way to calm people down. We should also continue our section on various types of magical creatures, both helpful and harmful, to try and emphasize that magic isn't just a threat.

Why? A large body of worshippers seems like something easy to divine. Surely they can't all be Mind Blanked!
Divining whether or not a Valyrian deity is being actively worshiped should be fairly simple. What strikes me as difficult is discerning whether that worship is being reciprocated by the surviving deity, or if some other power hasn't just hijacked the dead god's name and imagery to snag some new followers. I could see the various Archdukes of Hell, Asmodeus in particular, pulling that off. Maybe even a Demon Lord or one of the Four Horsemen, though that would be a stretch.

Just got back from seeing Knives Out. Really not the typical kind of movie I would see in a theater, but I took my grandma to see it because today's her 90th birthday and she likes murder mysteries.

Gotta say that I was thoroughly entertained. It gets eight out of eight tentacles up. Great script and acting to match.

Motherfucker I just remembered about the undead husk in the god damm Plane of Fire. We still need to feed his ass.
Already in the notes for the 12th month:
[] AFTER TIAMAT'S FORCES ARE DEALT WITH:
....
-[] If there is time - look into setting up a counter-trap to those Efreeti hunting the Char-Serpent(s) in Oil-seas of Plane of Fire.
It really depends on how the Tiamat-wrangling goes, and how many Companions will be free.

Realistically, we'd only be able to do it in the 1st month, if by then it isn't dead/captured/dealt with the efreeti hunters.

It'd be a fairly massive encounter if the Char-snek wasn't. Easily on the "Efreeti Convoy"-scale, if not nearly as uniform afaik.

I'd have to go with option #1. It at least has the possibility of success and the ability to grow in power, if with time more than effort. Being a full caster would obviously be better than a Martial class, but it's better than NPC-hood. Lay low, rely on the Mind Blank to most of the heavy lifting, and just work on learning how to fight properly in order to retrain as quickly as possible.

I can't see how the second option is even possible. Stealing Divine Domains is hard enough as a 20th level PC with a buttload of Mythic tiers and enough gear to bankrupt a kingdom. Doing it as a Commoner, 20th level or not, is unlikely. If you want a good century of life, however, it wouldn't be the worst option if you're comfortable with being utterly obliterated. Much better fate than what awaits option #3, at least.

Option #3 is interesting and a properly geared Mountebank could be a lot of fun, except for the part where Dispater has our soul and the only halfway reasonable chance of getting it back is to gank him, which isn't really reasonable at all, since Mountebanks are shit combatants and the chances of assembling a group of people to take on Dispater is about as likely as him just deciding to commit suicide.

These four are the ones I would focus on for the next issue. 1) Never hurts to further muddy the Lannister reputation, 2) the Earth Mother needs more worshipers and this is a great way to go about getting that effort started, 3) the further adventures of the Companions, the Headmistress of the Scholarium and the Master of the Mysterium and Governor of Volantis, spreading their fame while being a nice propaganda victory over inhuman forces, and 4) good propaganda for the various Sevenites in Westeros.

I hope the Grand Sultan sends a nice big fleet for us to loot. With lots of juicy Efreeti to feed to the skelesnek.
