Is this about the hill naming thing? Because Viserys seems like he's not easily "distracted".

On the subject of names, what's the cadet branch going to be called? Are they just going to go by a name they make up on the spot (like Brackenwood or something) or is there a protocol for this?
No, it's mostly a joke because Azema would totally be the person to write official reports with erotic fiction between the margins or on the back.

Likely something made up. So no one argues whether it's actually "Brackenwood" or "Blackbracken".

I was going to say that seems a bit petty of them, but they are Westeriosi lords.

We should "suggest" a set of random letters chosen from at least two different extraplanar languages to head it off.
If they want they could take up the name Justman. That was the last famous Bracken/Blackwood union, IIRC. A pretty pointed reminder to the original branches that their spawn are successfully getting along.

I would have suggested that except it seems like tempting fate. The Justmans had a really good roll of the dice, and then get FUCKED UP royally.

Get it? Roy--I'll stop.

But besides that, I also just think it's poor sport to make suggestions on the subject other than 'not too similar to Bracken or Blackwood', which ain't really much of an ask given how much work we put into this.

No worries, they're going to be pretty insignificant nobility in the grand scheme of things -- this is just granting them a small spot of land, not actually making them anything important like governors -- so it genuinely doesn't matter what they want to call themselves. I'm not attached to any particular name.

They'll actually be fairly influential, and have the potential to become quite wealthy horsebreeders and sailors, if we go forward with the Andal Coast, with a okay amount of mining opportunities and ample farmland.

But they will be beholden to whoever we make Duke of Andalos, yes. I was thinking Waymar and Tyene, as it keeps their children out of any potential political messes in the Vale. Also it's got some nice religious connotations and can have that nice mountain stronghold for the Knights Griffon that Waymar hoped for (one not mortared in the blood of the First Men).

Let's make sure to get DP's word on the kinds of land Waymar and Tyene are eyeing so we can accomodate them. Rivers, mountains, open fields, deserts, etc. We'll have access to basically everything soon enough. Though I imagine both of them will pass on the Jungles of Sothoryos.

"Malarys, my dear friend! I have arranged for you a nice lavish retreat, to wile away the winter whenever you feel the burdens of governance too wearisome."

"Well, Your Grace, that is oddly thoughtful of you--"

"It's on this nice bit of land deep in the heart of Sothoryos--"

"Burn it to the ground."

Seriously though, poor Malarys. He really can't get a break. He deserved every last drop of XP.

Under the circumstances:
  1. Something to prevent possession (the basic circle covers that)
  2. A knowledge booster like the Scholarum tree.
  3. Some form of healing
  4. Something to help defend against attack that the garrison would struggle against, like ethereal foes (though he is least attached to that)
Tree of Raventree Hall

Raventree Hall, The Riverlands, Westeros
"A Singer, face framed by raven feathers as though in the midst of a great storm"
CL 20 Hallow Effect
Secondary Effect 1: Magic Circle Against Evil
—> All individuals in range receive the benefits of Protection from Evil.
Secondary Effect 2: Sacred Fox's Cunning —> Boost to skill and ability checks, boost to all learning.
Secondary Effect 3: Panacea —> People are healed, and afterwards they are expected to help tend to the godswood for a month as payment.
Special Note: Immune to Fire

Pretty much what he asked for. He gets a nice copycat tree, lol.

I'd argue that "Knowledge-booster" would be the very effect on Scholarum Trees - and not the one on Tree of Dawn Age.

First is a "greater rolls on knowledge-checks" and the second is "Easier time learning everything"...

But I'm not sure whether the second is too powerful for non-SD H!Tree.

This tree is about as powerful as it gets beyond the Tree of the Dawn Age, or if we ever get around to the Tree of Winterfell. It's plenty powerful enough to justify effects like these.

That said we could just give the Scholarum Tree effect, that'd work too. I just figured since he's not getting a Scholarum branch any time soon if ever and since the trees effect will be spilling into the city below he'd be better off with an effect that benefits all his citizens.

EDIT: One big thing to consider here is range. The "easier time learning everything" depends on the range of the tree. The Scholarum effect, though? That doesn't use range at all. It's just a pool at the tree's base that you can drink from. We can always plop down a second tree in the Blackwood lands, a Scholarum Tree even, but there's only one original.

I know we were planning to bookify Rickard, but what if we allowed Tytos to sacrifice him instead, before the restored Blackwood Heart Tree? Rickard is a 14th level Warg, and not just any Warg, but one who would have been a king if not for treachery and madness, as well as a violator of one of the OG's most sacred laws. That should be worth a decent boon, perhaps changing Hoster from a mere Hedge Mage into a full fledged Druid, one who can come to SD to learn more of his powers and the OG, while neatly tying the Blackwoods more closely to our regime.

Viserys: "Behold, Rickard Stark, would be king of the North in times immemorial, a victim of circumstance who allowed his grief and rage to drive him mad, and in his madness he sought to foment an unending feud between the descendents of his betrayer and a family of innocent scapegoats. Would you like to gut him before your Heart Tree?"

There's basically no boon that is worth such a wealth of personal experience in Westerosi History to me, and certainly not a boon for Blackwood.

Okay. In that case I'd rather wait until the entire book is copied before we use him to enchant the tree. How long will they take given we have a whole lot of calligraphy wyrms and basically unlimited amanuensis?

Several weeks to get everything remotely usable. It's literally impossible to copy everything since a book made with scribe's binding is effectively a minor magic item made to contain the knowledge, that's the only way you can get the sum and total of a thinking being's memories on a medium as constrained as ink and parchment. Howver I imagine you do not really need to know what he ate for breakfast 513 years ago.

Unless he decided to be particularly depraved and eat a Blackwood baby.
