It's not their Viserys though, just a teenage Sorcerer who has no inherently bigger chance of becoming the best shot at saving the world than any other PC.

I'm not sure I could see Mereth put up with the guy we were, or him with her?
The Viserys in front of them grows into that ambition and power so long as he's not coddled. It would happen on its own as long as there isn't too much interference with the challenges he'd need to face. A few years of waiting would be nothing for an outsider. The bigger question is when Mereth and Yrael judge that he's strong enough that they can step out from the background and start taking orders again.

EDIT: If you want a minion who wouldn't respect a weaker younger Viserys and promptly conquer his own kingdom, pick Relath. He'd do it without a blink.

Eh, I'm not sure I can see them risk everything on Viserys going the same route as before.

Better conquer and build up Mantarys on the side into something that can be a seed for their own plans if Viserys fails.

They'd certainly be ready to step in if things get too bad in any one area, but they definitely won't interfere with Viserys' major arcs. Mantarys would be one of the big ones. It was the reason Viserys decided to just accept the exile from Braavos instead of fighting to stay -- he had to leave anyway to take care of that.

Eh, people were ready to go out and conquer their own lands anyway.
Did we take Torturer's Deep before or after Mantarys anyway?

Before. We were exiled from Braavos, and we just went along with it because we had to leave anyway. We proceeded to conquer Saltcliff and then Torturer's Deep, spent a bit of time establishing a base on Torturer's Deep, and then after that went to Mantarys.

Mantarys was a major arc. The ripples of it flat out not being necessary for Viserys to go would throw basically everything off, and ensure the end result is a far weaker liege lord.

The thing (and whatever such is potentially connected with) pretty clearly stalks the party. Let's not have any more information than necessary make its way to potential foes, yes?

If said creature is well meaning and merely paranoid, can be set free with apologies. This shall provoke action, reveal intent. And give something to interrogate at need, instead of blundering through jungle like random muggles hour after hour.

I kinda doubt that.

There are enough challenges in the world, Mantarys did not make us inherently stronger than other adventures could have.
They biggest key event in it was Dany going apostate, but that would have happened anyway soon.

The problem here is a big difference in priorities between them and you. Mereth and Yrael are loyal, that wouldn't change just because the Viserys in front of them is younger and weaker, and in an era before the Imperium their priority would be to make sure Viserys reaches his full potential. Messing with his character arcs and potentially stifling his growth would be deemed too risky by both.

If you want a minion who wouldn't give a damn, and who would gleefully start conquering everything in a land without his Mythic Red Dragon Sorcerer King overlord smacking him on the wrist, Relath is the perfect fit, not Mereth and Yrael.
Speaking of current characters thrown out of this timeline, @Duesal, any updates for that Viserys in canon ASOIAF omake that you have?
Not at the moment, though I am toying with the idea of few different POVs. He'd probably start by picking up his Companions. Them reacting to Viserys would certainly be amusing.

Yep. We wouldn't have two fundamental resources hadn't it been for mantarys.

Heck, we wouldn't have met Benerro, Zherys, Liset and Reva, GLYRA WOULD STILL BE CHAOTIC EVIL AF

Speaking of our resident water dragon are we thinking about sending them into the Plane fo Water?
There are a bunch of things.

1. Potential mercenaries to hire against the Deep Ones.
2. Magic items unique to the Plane of Water, like those aberration-detecting stones Relath bought en-mass.
3. Trying to hire more crafters. We got unlucky with the Plane of Air, but we can certainly give it our best shot in the Plane of Water.
4. Taking a delegation of the Shaitan and the Djinn for a ride with us on a Moonchaser and attempting to negotiate with the Marid and potentially bring them into our alliance.

Also one of my own personal wishes is for a Brine Dragon to try to rob us so we can kill it and harvest its corpse.

DP mixed the lore a bit from different sources of D&D/Pathfinder.

For our purposes, Shaitan are Earth Genies, Marid are Water Genies, Djinn are Air Genies, and Efreeti are Fire Genies.
That helps a lot. Also Marids shouldn't be too bad to get on our side. They do see mortals as beneath their notice but then again that is most genies.

Everyone, remember that the Marid aren't united in the least. Intervening there means getting involved into a massive clusterfuck.
Let's stat by learning the results of previous Shaitan efforts, yes?

You have much more faith in them than I do.

Yrael sees serving us as the lesser Evil to letting us run unchecked and Mereth does very much believe in might being a vital component of right.
I think if they thought they could do better, they might try.

I think we should really try expanding the Alliance.

I all but guarantee Hells (mostly Dis) officially joining Efreeti side in coming months - too much profit lost otherwise.

Marid, even if only halping in mercenaries, would turn that tide slightly in our favor again.

Not sure whom else to conscript though.
We probably should deal with Salamander Rebellion soon-ish, and ensure their power/survival.

I wouldn't take it for certain.

Maybe Dispater wants his income sources protected, but Asmodeus might be wary of opening another front, not like Hell is lacking in enemies at any time.
I think strong support from Dispater's personal servants and allies is more likely than Hell officially getting stuck in another eternal war.

  • [X] During the approach, have Varys obliquely move closer as subtly as possible, reach out mentally to see if there is some kind of 'overmind' controlling it, and inform us of any oddities. However unlikely that be the case, it is a common enough concern and twice bitten and all that.
-[X] Call out to the creature, attempting to be as non-threatening as you can be. It appears to be spying on you, but perhaps one who would risk stalking a more numerous group of unknown capabilities could be of use and provide insight on the ruins in turn.
-[X] Should it run, be prepared to capture it.
    [X] Capture the spy
-[X] Viserys targets the Invisible spy with Baleful Polymorph to transform it into a turtle.
--[X] If the spy manages to resist, or proves immune, Dany will target it with Barbed Chains, using each chain to make a Trip attempt rather than inflict damage, and Lya will target it with a Chains of Light spell.
