I wonder if Lucan and his crew have visited the Celestial Planes and found them...less than expected? Maybe a blasted wasteland? Or perhaps occupied by Devils?

I don't think they went there. From everything we know it sounds like an Epic level dungeon beyond even Valyria, and Lucan is the only one strong enough to withstand it. He can't afford to babysit a bunch of lower-level PCs.

I think he went to visit the godly realm of the Seven. The Astral Plane can be freaky.

but the realities of our resources (how many spell slots we had) had us settling for limiting ourselves to whatever Varys had already summoned.
I'm pretty sure summoning everything was backgrounded.
That was what I asked of DP, in any case, and I'm pretty sure he provided.

Here's how I remember it:
We have been summoning stuff in the background ever since we got Varys. Throughout that month we first summoned those he knew of being on Plane of Balance, with a few exceptions (which we took care of personally, like those Devils in Reach and one in Volantis).

Next month after that, we summoned every Devil we knew of connected to Mammon's operations on PoB, from both Varys' and Uniila's knowledge.

Last month, we summoned every Devil Brachina knew the True Names of, except Erynies (unknown number) because diplomancing them takes a bit more time/effort than summoning and capturing we prioritised.

You have no idea. Both Yrael and his other Archons are very evasive on any questions regarding their homeplane.

That is quite the departure from what we've been told before. So far it's been 'you've not asked' with a side of 'they don't choose to speak of it'. Deliberate evasion is very different.

Faceless'd by @egoo

No, I think DP has said a couple times before that Yrael and his buddies are quite reluctant to speak of the Celestial Planes.

I certainly won't complain if it turns out you're right. It certainly saves us time.

But DP does need to actually give us details.

Alright, I think we can make something of this. He's deeply driven and faithful, but there are some cracks here, and I think they run deeper than what we've just seen.

The dichotomy of outsiders not being simply bound was not something he enjoyed being presented with, equally as we shall not enjoy similar things turned onto us by Lucan.

Still...I think we have a base to work from. If nothing else, I think we could convince him to at least walk our city with his eyes, so that not all he and his companions know of SD is twisted rumour. Done right, and assuming we keep clear, I think the mage might even be willing to do the same. And bluntly, I want him to.

I want them to see the Sept, the temples of other gods, our peoples and those from other realms all mixed together and safe. And I want them to see the artistic education piece outside of the Scholarium.

I doubt very much I'll get even a fraction of that, but I think...some is possible.

Preliminary plan. Thoughts and suggestions?

[X] Ask further questions
-[X] Try to engage Ser James in further conversation related to the greater cosmos.
--[X] "My Companions and I have visited other worlds as well, Ser James, and all too often found horrors beyond reckoning." Let our own revulsion and anger at many of the Evils we have seen, especially those perpetrated by the Efreeti, be plain to see but not overly exaggerated.
---[X] "Yet for all the potential darkness, there is light and beauty to be found as well, wonders our own home would be hard pressed to match." If Ser James appears receptive, speak of the Djinni, deathless spirits of the wind who embrace freedom and righteousness while making themselves enemies of monsters and madmen who would work evil for its own sake.
-[X] If Ser James cannot be enticed to speak further on his extraplanar adventures, do not press him, but instead move on, next guiding him to the Great Sept currently under construction.

[X] Try to get some of your Companions to speak to the mage in your place
-[X] Tyene and Waymar will try to set the man at ease, but with no real goal in mind. If he is willing to talk about anything in particular, they will engage him in conversation. Otherwise, they can give him a guided tour of Sorcerer's Deep, answering any questions he might have which do not reveal sensitive information. Perhaps, if they have time and the mage seems interested, Waymar could introduce him to some of the Skyborn Griffins in our service and tell him about the new order of Griffin Knights he is training.

"I'd be a lot less concerned with making any deals with the bastard responsible for that damn king-slayer angel," Ser Richard interjects darkly. "As far as I can remember there's nothing in the law about excusing mages who call down dangerous spirits just because of what the spirits are."
Do we actually have laws about being responsible for what you summon? I thought we handled that at the other end, so you had to have permission to summon, which seem to me to work better, because binding summoned beings would be slavery, and if they aren't bound, then it's unfair to hold the summoner responsible for their acts, so it's more practical, to make sure only people who will not summon things that are likely to be problems, have permission to summon.

It's not like we hold captains ferrying immigrants to our shores, responsible for the acts of the immigrants, and if a summoned being decide to not take it's summoners job offer, then summoning is basically the magical equivalent, of ferrying someone to our shores, which do have some responsibility, but only in that you aren't supposed, to ferry obviously suspicious people to our shores.

Considering what the next arc will be it's probably best to wait for the sake of the story pacing.
Fine, but I'm adding that to this month's Minor Actions.

-[X] Talk with Yrael and other Archons in your service.
--[X] The fate of Celestial Realm is something you haven't asked them about before, seeing how they are clearly uncomfortable with the subject, but in light of recent events and revelations you cannot leave that as is.

To hell with forgetting about this again, much as you wanted to give that to us with some Archons-narrative... or something, as you mentioned back then.

Looking back I can now confirm @egoo hs it right, you are down to summoning devils from Hell and still have some more Erinyes to summon.

As for the number of furies

*rolls*

You have another 17 names to use.
We can summon all of them and have much place left for summoning Devils from Hell if you take that "30-60 HD daily" I proposed as a reasonable amount of background summoning (given True Names avaliable)

@egoo, @Snowfire, you can just Teleport over to Mantarys and order Yrael to spill the beans. He wouldn't even begrudge the order, since he is perfectly aware that he kept kicking this topic down the road for years.

From a OOC perspective, having Yrael throw a Codex Archon at you to hold a boring lecture on the topic is narratively the least satisfying option imaginable. It simply wastes a great moment of storytelling.

... @Azel, now I am greatly tempted to sit down for several days and do just that. :V

That aside, how many Codex Archons does Yrael have, anyway?

Am sleepy.
Dedicated, but sleepy.

Sleep first, thought second.

Egoo aren't you some kind of Eldritch abomination? I thought your kind worked pretty well in your sleep, I mean Chtullu can attract worshippers and drive people mad, while having a nice dream.:D
