Ah, that's at the end of the month? Alright. I'll bring it up again later.

[X] In the Land of the Blind...Cast Remove Blindness

I just really like how you go back to previous in-game convos with your votes.

@Snowfire I got to agree with Drake, while it's a nice little speech it only tangentially adresses Dany's concern: is it not better to let people have idols, even if they are false, considering the sheer amount of unrest, doubt and suffering massively upheaving their point of view would cause?

And we generally agree that, even then, we should not cover up the truth. But you should add that.

Also, isn't @Tomcost literally a professional economist/accountant?

The sheets don't seem complicated.

Interlude CDLIX: By the Sea's Light
By the Sea's Light

Thirteenth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

Theon Greyjoy, heir to the blood of the Grey Kings of old, felt like his stomach was about to turn inside out and try to escape through his mouth if he unclenched his teeth for even a moment. It wasn't the sea, even choppy as it still was in the aftermath of the brief storm that had caught them thirty leagues from the Orange Shore, it would not have been enough to make him this miserable. There was something going around the fleet, a sickness that was nasty enough that you'd feel like hell, but not so bad that you couldn't work with it... well Theon supposed he could get away with not working, but lords were supposed to set an example for their men. That much of his father's words he had taken to heart.

That was not so say he was about to bear the experience in grim determination, he would leave that sort of shit to men who fancied themselves saints or greenlander knights. As the ships lay at anchor for the night the young prince ordered a boat lowered. Then he came out onto the deck and all he could do was stare. The sea was glowing ghostly blue under the stars and the tattered remains of yesterday's storm, ethereal shapes rippling under the waves.

For one timeless moment he stood entranced at the beauty of the scene, he was again the boy who looked out over the sea from Pyke imagining the mysteries and wonders of the sea... then of course he remembered what else dwelt beneath the sea, the things that had taken that joy from him and replaced it with cold dread that even now coiled in his stomach like a chunk of ice.

"It's safe," a familiar voice called out from nearby. Turning he saw Valaena coming up behind him. He could feel himself blushing. Was he really that predictable?

"What is it then?" he asked quickly, to distract from his lapse in reason. Of course Captain Moonsong would have done something if it were dangerous. It's not like he was the only one looking for threats below the water and above them.

"Seaweed, near as Breath Taker can explain it, smaller than a grain of sand but there's a lot of it around. The Tritons call it King's Shroud for their god and think it's coming holy." The light cast her silvery braid like a line of starlight across her back.

Theon shook himself, it was one thing to look and admire from afar, but she would likely take any serious interest about as well as Asha, she had already decided on the Redwyne boy for reasons of politics. If Valaena followed in her steps she would have no interest in Theon since she would sensibly want to rule in her own right, not just be the Lady of Lannisport. Of course that did not preclude less permanent arrangements, the fleet's alchemical stores being what they were, but he would probably end up taking an unexpected swim in the sea if he proposed that out of the blue.

"I... er, didn't feel anything," he said instead. "You know, with the blessing... Did you?"

"I don't think it's that kind of holy, more like how the Red Priests celebrate Kindling," she replied.

The young Greyjoy nodded. It had actually been quite surprising when the sailors had taken to lighting small sticks of pitch-soaked wood in a vigil to the dawn, but not unpleasant. The tradition of gift-giving the next day had him scrambling for offerings but he had managed. It's not like the Merling King would mind and it always paid to respect the god revered by six of ten of the members of the expedition.

A few of them were paying their respects to the sea in turn now, Theon noticed. That probably wasn't entirely right by the laws of their god, but Deepsmen were less careful about that sort of thing he had noticed.

"Boat's ready, milord!" the sailor he had sent with the task called, in a manner that implied he would rather have used a less complimentary term. He was old enough to be Theon's grandfather so the young officer didn't resent him much.

"Do you ever wonder if they are just humoring us?" Valaena asked as she walked beside him to the launch.

"Us 'young'uns with our fancy magic' you mean?" Theon laughed. "I don't think there's any doubt about that."

"Us nobles I mean," the girl replied. "The Tritons do fine without any highborn..."

"All five thousand of 'em scraping by with stone tools and prayer?" he shook his head. "What got you thinking of that?"

"I've been doing some reading on Yi Ti, talking to the guides too, and it seems to me that a lot of their troubles come down to Noble Houses overstaying their welcome until the smallfolk rise up and make one of their number Emperor. I probably never would have even thought of it if I weren't looking at an entirely new history from the outside."

"Something to that." Theon mused, then he brightened. "None of us are really here just because of out parents are we? I mean, you have a dragon and I have Maron..." He was half-afraid she would giggle, but she just nodded, like he'd said something clever. Maybe he had at that. This journey still had a lot to teach them.

OOC: No action, but some much needed world-building and character development. Both Theon and Valaena have been sort of stuck in a rut recently, him being worried about Deep Ones (though to to fair that phobia is here to stay) and her rebelling against society's strictures. It was high time for them to stretch out their wings and not just in the sense of generic heroism.

The sheets aren't complicated. But I'm also working at two jobs now and I'm not able to dedicate to this quest the time it deserves. I would be prone to make mistakes.

What I can do is auditing the sheets from time to time

Neat change of pace, DP.

I suddenly want to introduce the microscope to Planetos.

Is there actually any problem, with Valaena both being Lady of Lannisport, and ruling in her own right? I mean I don't think we would oppose, 2 people who each has a fief marrying, and as long as they are rich enough to buy a teleport item, it's not much of a problem, to be married to someone who rule a fief 500 miles from your fief.

So if Theon and Valaena should marry, I don't see why he couldn't have Lannisport, and she could have whatever land we choose to grant her, with teleport it's no problem ruling both, and dynastically it just mean, they have land to pass down to their first 2 children.

"Here to stay".

So how many virus bombings and scorched earth policy tier bombing runs will we need to erase it? For Theon, anything. :V

Yes, the problem would be potentially uniting titles though their children. even if they split them to different siblings that will still create claims that no one would really want around. Of course it is ultimately up to Viserys and you guys, but Theon assumes you will go for prudence.

Well, we have an advantage over other kings:
We will still be around and know the situation when their children's children's children might be arguing over some claim.
Helps solving these things.
