Because she is a powerful benevolent magical being who is offering free warmth and healing in the far north.

Any new son the vote?
And again, wasn't the point of going there so she could have some solitude? Which implies she wouldn't be meeting that much people and thus news of her would be harder to come by?

That's why Duesal was asking. She went to a place where she shouldn'tb bebothered by people and then suddenly she's firs page on the rumors monthly?

@ryuan has the right of it, @DragonParadox. So she was easy to see. Fine. The location, however, placed people who did see her in the far, far north. Even if they wanted to tell everyone everywhere, it should have been a lot slower for the information to spread than you had it.

That was why I assumed it was active sabotage to draw people away from the healing at Sorcerer's Deep rather than simple information spreading.

She was clearly visible from Skagos in clear days and the Skagosi were the first ones to find her.

I get that.

To be clear my initial suspicion was it was a Varys plot, and that he decided sending us diseased people wouldn't work so instead he tried to divert people in need of healing away from Sorcerer's Deep. As it turns out, it was just Bloom being Bloom.

How is Bloom, by the way? Have the Night's Watch made contact with her? Is the Silver Serpent Enterprise outpost nearby taking care of everything she needs?

  1. The number of people going to Skane of all places are a trickle compared to SD's immigration
  2. She is fine, still coming to terms with her long incarceration though getting ever more troubled hearing stories of the Others of which many of those who choose to stay on Skane are terrified

... @DragonParadox... can we get stories of the Others, too? We could do so many wonderful things with a genuine Other.

Part MMDCCC: Hidden Chain and Veiled Crown
Hidden Chain and Veiled Crown

Eighth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

Given the presence of unknown foes you have no desire to cross beyond the sphinx-guarded gate of the Citadel. Unfortunately for your plans, however, Archmaester Ryam, seemingly the most amenable of those Lord Hightower spoke of, has no convenient vices to lead him into the city. He does not drink, gamble, or whore, spending most of his days immersed in study or teaching novices who wish to forge a link of yellow gold. By the morning of the eighth day you had almost given up on the notion of keeping your distance from the seat of the maesters' power when you happened at last upon a loose-tongued servant who revealed the the Archmaester enjoys walks along the docks at dawn, taking in the salt air to help with his shortness of breath.

An odd habit for one so high in the ranks of the Citadel to still be maintaining. Surely he would be able to procure some manner of magic to heal ailing lungs, unless of course he does not wish such treatment. The notion does not bode well for your chances of gaining his confidence or aid... you shake off the suspicion. The truth of the matter is that you do not know enough about the man to form an opinion, that is why you are getting ready to walk out into the windy morning air, or rather why Corlys Waters is preparing to make his first appearance in more than half a year. The name is common enough for a Crownlander and Waters could well be an affection, a likely enough sight upon the docks of Oldtown.

While Dany and the Hound help Leto keep a watchful eye on the Demons and Deep One agents, as the Lantern Bearers begin watching them in an ever tightening net, you and Ser Richard step out into the grey light of false dawn. The quays are not quiet of course, no city as large and wealthy as this can afford it, but they are as close to it as they are ever likely to get. One can hear the lapping of water clearly among the hiss of ropes in calloused hands, the thump of wood on wood.

You would not have known the Archmaester without a description, for he bears no mark of his office save his chain and even that is barely a glint at the collar of his oiled cloak. Deep chested and heavyset with light blond hair only just beginning to bleach white at the temples, Archmaester Ryam seems young for his lofty position but not uncommonly so. As far as you can hear he does not seem to have any trouble breathing at all. Though he does pause along his path it is to watch a ship unload it's cargo or casting off its lines as it heads into the Sunset Sea.

It seems the Archmaester is suffering from that most ethereal of maladies, sentimentality, and he is most assiduously veiling the fact, you realize, amused. It would not do for the novices to realize that he simply enjoys long walks along the shore.

You approach him as though by chance and in a voice carefully pitched not to carry far you ask: "Might you be interested in a brief respite? I would much wish to speak to you of matters great and small."

A stern look passes over you, much the same you imagine he gives those novices of his who are likely of an age with you and only about five years or so younger than the seeming you have taken. "I have no interest in discussing all that trifles. Speak plainly or not at all."

"Inspiring as the view may be this is not a place for..." you time your words to be interrupted by the rattle of an anchor dropping into the sea. "Conversing," you finish. "I will say this much, it is a matter than concerns gold, though not of the common sort."

"Which is to say it's s matter concerning me, which I might have guessed from being approached," the Archmaester frowns. "Fine, I will come though not for long. I am most punctilious in my walks." At first you take the emphasis at first value before it strikes you what he actually means, a warning that he will be missed quickly were he to vanish. A cautious man.

Together the three of you step into a tavern, the common room still empty but the smell of sizzling crayfish already in the air from having spoken to the innkeeper previously. You take a table in the far end of the room and consider the man before you, what you know and what might be guessed.

How do you address Archmaester Ryam?

Deliver Judgement (Su)

When the Warlord Archon and its target are within the area the Archon rules a creature with the ability to lie under an effect such as circle of truth, or discern lies fail (Except mind blank). If a creature has the ability to lie under or through an effect such as circle of truth, or discern lies it knows that effect has failed it.

Lastly, when a creature speaks falsely within range of the Archons ability to discern lies the Archon may use its mark of justice SLA on that creature as a free action. More than one careless fiend has met their doom attempting sweet lies or false promises against an Archon Lord.

Aura of Menace (Su)
A righteous aura surrounds archons that fight or get angry. Any hostile creature within a 20-foot radius of an archon must suceed on a will save to resist its effects. The save DC is charisma based, and includes a +4 racial bonus. Those who fail take -2 penalty on attacks, AC, and Saving throws for 24 hours or until the successfully hit the archon that generated the aura. A creature that has resisted or broken the effect cannot be affected again by the same archon's aura for 24 hours.

Second Skin (Ex)

A Warlord Archon is proficient in all forms of armor. It takes no reduction to its speed or any armor check penalties from wearing any sort of armor. Most Lord archons wear full plate armor.

Staff of Authority (Ex)
A Warlord Archon can Manifest a Suzerian Scepter as a move equivalent action. The Scepter vanishes when the Warlord Archon dies, or when the Warlord Archon takes a move action to manifest another scepter. A Warlord Archon CAN lend another creature it's scepter, but would only consider doing so if the need is great.

The archon can also command its Scepter to become a +1 Merciful Holy Greatsword as a free action.

Heres what I have so far. I followed most of TNE's suggestions, leaving him on the high end of the power scale. Whats everyone think so far? And I am looking for spell recommendations.
Alright, this should have fixed some stuff.

I like the Scepter? Its cheap enough and it helps him do his actual job better. Which going by the thematics of his ascension it's supposed to be embracing his roll as a leader, not just as a soldier.

I have heard, the sword is too weak, and the sword doesn't matter from multiple corners. So ill just table it until I hear a compelling reason to get it gone.

Feel free to tear into the spell list, not super attached to anything at the moment.

Okay, so how do we want to do this?

I would be happy to subvert him, but I'm not sure we can manage it.

This still hasn't been updated.

EDIT: Ah, you're looking for spell recommendations. There are plenty of fantastic cleric spells. I'm sure Goldfish has a bunch of suggestions.

I would love to talk to him as Viserys Targaryen but he doesn't have protection against divination. Also this is an economic maestar. We can talk to him about our investments through the guise of another person to see what we can get from him but I don't know what else to do.

I'm not sure what to offer him in general. The Maesters as an institution can't continue, and every Maester ever will see the implications of how thoroughly magic can replace them.

We have our own Construct Ravens, which were on prominent display to announce the Grand Festival.

We have our mage minions and administrator minions.

We have magic for healing, we we outclass the Maesters in every way in that regard.

We're building up an infamous library.

We're making a University (with zero input from them, thank you).

So the Maesters should be feeling plenty threatened about their place in the world.

I honestly don't know what to offer him without having to compromise parts of our plan, and I'm unwilling to compromise parts of our plan.
