Technically you can buy books from there, they are in the business of providing high quality sacred texts for high nobles. You would have to do it under a false identity obviously
Bah!
Buying just some books?
While they'll surely keep their most precious lore/books, no matter how much we offer to pay?

Looting it is.

-[X] First of all, pursue more actionable information on the Dragon Cult that has taken root within the Smith's Sept. Use Divination spells of your own, and the House of Mirrors as required to narrow down the specifics of the matter. If you encounter Mind Blank, set your questions 'around' the blank space.
--[X] If these measures prove insufficient, utilize Cloak of Khyber and your Greater Ribbon to approach the sept itself and investigate. Focus here is to be information gathering above all. At the same time, have those skilled in the matter (if there are any) attempt to seek out the identities of any craftsfolk who have greatly benefited from their prayers in the past weeks.
-[X] At the same time, dedicate some smaller resources to the matter of the Shermer household's enthrallment, and seek to discover if the death of the current lord could be put to any greater use.
-[X] In preparation for the plan taking shape in your mind, check to see if Tiamat/the Golden Company has spies or surveillance present around the Lantern Bearer who 'Dywen' has previously met.
[X] Look for that lantern bearer you know and let him in on the situation.

2500 IM for the best illumination and calligraphy on everything. Those would be more works of art than they would be books. In fact texts of that quality are usually commissioned years in advance. It would take a pretty good story to justify wanting to buy them on the sot.
Any chance of getting their exclusive works as well, if there are any?

Not a big deal, but I could care less about how pretty the books are, @Duesal. It's the information they contain which matters.

And highly decorated, over-illuminated books are a pain to read, IMO.

As far as Viserys knows there are no exclusive works. the Faith of the seven is a proselytizing religion not a mystery cult and unlike say the Red Faith they have no sorcerers or diviners who might be secretive. They are thus interested in spreading all their texts other than the heretical ones but those are not properly speaking part of the Faith's accepted body of lore.

I can't think of any situation that would be made worse by proper intelligence gathering, and I'm sure I don't need to give this thread examples of situations that are made worse by a lack of it.

Oh, woopsie.

Not important at this particular juncture, but means we'll need to modify the Honesty and Deception plan once we get to that point.

Biggest thing is we can't utilize that contact without appearing moderately suspicious in a different persona.

Using Dywen isn't a great idea in the first place for something that isn't straight diplomacy if he could be connected to another violent action, since he's supposed to be a "man of reason and peace"... just not reasonable by the standards of Orthodox Seven Worshipers (you know, all that HERESY).

"It's gonna cost you more," he says at last. "Worst thing a man can do is kill you... but that shit..."

"I had assumed as much," you answer, the easy agreement seeming to startle him. "However, I will be providing more than gold to line your pockets."

On cue Lya draws forth the silvered bastard sword you had found in Essaria... from her pocket, having shrunken it to little more than the size of a needle. "Behold your blade!" she declares grandly, then before the dumbfounded look has a chance to fade from his face she breaks the spell upon the weapon, returning it to its proper size.

Bronn laughs along ruefully at the jest, though he does then ask, "That's going to stay like that, right? I'd hate to be stuck with a flea-sticker in the middle of a fight..." He trails off, a positively beatific smile on his features.
@DragonParadox Not that I want a retcon, but can we now assume that Lya has further broken the laws of reality and figured out how to use Shrink Item to affect magical items? If so, that is awesome, and my anti-Mindflayer fortress bombardment scheme will need some editing.
Damn it... it's far too fun in an idea so in order to get the narrative and the mechanics to work there is something about that particular sword that makes it shrinkable. You can even do a research action on it if you want.
@DragonParadox, how much progress for a research action on how to shrink magical items?

@Goldfish @Azel @Snowfire @TotallyNotEvil @Crake I don't know if you've been exploiting this already, but I assume you'll find a way.

Any man of reason would be driven to abandon peace in the face of the servants of the Bitch Queen.

Yes, I basically intend on using that verbatim.

Dywin is that of our personae who profits most from getting a win against demons here.
Neither Viserys nor any eastern alias would be helpful.

An alternative would be to create a new one, a Chosen to one of the Seven. Dangerous, but potentially usefull.
I'm thinking Stranger.

A chosen is counterproductive. An agent of the Old Gods would be far more effective at making things all the more fractious at the Conclave.
