Fair enough on the items, was not a huge deal :). The thing about telepathic bond is that you don't need it, or expect to need it, but then it suddenly is very very useful. So I'm glad you added it in. Also allows for chatter to happen while still keeping quiet, in the physical sense.

Also what are your thoughts on a permanent one of these, for those that can use it:

DESCRIPTION

You can mentally communicate with any other creature within 100 feet that has a language. It is possible to address multiple creatures at once telepathically, although maintaining a telepathicconversation with more than one creature at a time is just as difficult as speaking and listening to multiple people simultaneously

Of course not the same thing as telepathic bond, but very useful in different related ways.

Was there any discussion about having permaamant telepathic bonds with party members that I have missed/forgotten?

Edit

We have a limited number of spell levels we can use to Permanency spells. Telepathic Bond would eat into a lot of them, for multiple people.

As for a Telepathy item, it would be nice, but very expensive. We have Varys with us at almost all times, and she's not only got Telepathy, she also has the Mindsight feat, which is awesome.

I wasn't think of an item, but a permanent version of the spell "Telepathy", but...

I was completely unaware of the spell level limit for permanecy. Makes sense to have limits for this. What is the max spell level per person? Does it scale with hd?

That said, there my be some value in a dispellable permament Telepathic Bond, Lesser :: d20srd.org, if that spell is available. It's cleric, mind, Wiz/sorc level 3, as telepathic bond itself can only be permanently between two people.

It does not cost XP, has some significant benefits in many situations between various background NPC's and occasionally our PCs, and can be removed a few months later if circumstances/needs change

And if we get Viserys to use his Mythic Power to cast the permanecy, under CL boosters, with Danny's anti-dispell ring, then anything that can break that spell will probably just straight up be able to kill them with an errant blink of their eye :D

Edit: or just use an anti-magic field, of course. *Shrugs*

I now dream of the ultimate gift to the Night's Watch—a Valyrian Steel Dragon Construct with this rune imbued into every natural weapon.
Amulet of Mighty Fists or one of its derivatives.

We got two mechanics for Permanancy.
1) Pay money, cast spell. Dispellable.
2) Pay EXP, capped by (iirc) 2*HD in spell level, NOT dispellable.

Close.

For the 2nd option, we're limited to spells levels equal TO HD, not doubled HD.

How much for an Amulet of Mighty Fists +1, Winterbane in IM?

For anything worthwile that uses natural attacks, obviously

Part MMDCLVIII: Guests Unbidden
Guests Unbidden

Twenty-First Day of the Eighth Month 293 AC

After some thought you accept both of them, Braga so that you might have one of the Thenns on the expedition, and Mors the better to aim him firmly against the enemies of all life not just the feuds of his house. Dreadful as the raids and wife-stealing are, they pale besides the horror you are all-but-certain awaits you in these mountains.

The two warriors are equally pleased to be then handed Valyrian Steel axes, though the hunter takes his up more gingerly, uncertain of the strange southron magics. Calling it 'fire made steel' calms his worries easily enough, for you do not specify what else besides fire had gone into its forging. Then again, looking upon his grim bearded face, perhaps he does know enough at least. He had been more tight-lipped than usual about where his bow blessed with man-slaying and his cloak with the virtue for making unfriendly eyes pass him by came from.

The journey to Cripple's Watch is short, only minutes borne by shadow steeds, though even a raider band afoot would have taken less than an hour to reach the Magnar's hall, enough so that the warriors from other villages in the valley would be hard-pressed to arrive in time. During that time it had been left mostly to you to keep the silence without from growing too burdensome upon the spirit, recounting anecdotes of the sorts the two warriors would find worth listening to, mostly of your first journey north, the winterborn and the dead, so they would know what they might face.

"Fire is our friend against these foes, not least of all that one."
You point at the sky where the sun had begun to descend from its zenith. Mors would have defaulted on his fight with Thoros, you realize, not that the Northerner seems to care. After all, what use has he for prize money now? He had found his daughter and in his own words 'a fight worth having'.

"Too bad we'll have to go down into their stinking holes, then," Braga replies. "Girl," he turns to Dany. "Can you make light?"

"Yes,"
your sister replies, annoyance showing on her fave. "I also have a name."

"One that would twist my tongue into a knot,"
the hunter replies bluntly. "Better to call you what you are than to mangle it, no?"

"I suppose so."
Your sister is obviously charmed by the rather odd though obviously sincere attempt at courtesy. "You can call me Dany."

Once you start climbing the stony paths the banter fades into a watchful stillness. The hooves of your steeds do not mark the new fallen snow, nor does any bird sing or any beast move all around. You are alone in a wilderness of snow and stone as though you were days from any the roaring fire and revelry of Styr's hall.

"We are past the land-wards," Braga admits. The word he used could have as easily have meant any marked boundary, but the chill kiss of the wind leaves no doubt in your mind that here at least it carries its more arcane meaning.

For all the divinations you had worked back at the Thenn's hall had shown the enemy is unaware of any attempted attack, all five of you constantly watch the slopes and the sky for watchers. Twice you had spotted the shadow of great wings upon the snow, only to realize it is only an eagle flying overhead, supremely unconcerned of the doings of anything on the ground besides its potential next meal.

The Wayfinder and your map are able to pin down the likely location of the cave mouth to within three leagues, but there are still no tracks to follow, at least to your eye. Braga shows his skill in looking for signs beneath the carpet of white—bent twigs and fallen leaves, and finally crude handholds carved into the stone climbing above the main path. "Could they have called the snows to cover their track?" the hunter asks, worry welling into the thought in spite of himself.

"Not easily, it is summer yet," you reply, probably not the reassurance he had wanted, but this is about the worst place for comforting lies you can think of.

Finally you clamber up the narrow steps, silently cursing under your breath that you cannot simply fly up... only to find a sheer stone wall, unmarked by any passage, upon first sight at least. Looking beyond the surface, you see an entrance, just wide enough for a man to squeeze through, across its threshold withered sentinel pine boughs bound together with crude hide... Leaning carefully down you see strange runes carved upon the wood... inked in blood. Someone had made these marks with bleeding broken nails, you realize, yet each line was exact in its placement. You do not share that particular insight, simply dispelling the trap and stepping over it.

The cave beyond is a great echoing hall of stone, sharp-edged and full of shadows beyond what even your eyes can see. It is also covered in a thin layer of snow spreading further than what could have been carried by the wind. A moment later you realize it is snowing inside the cave. Winter has claimed this place as deeply as ever the Old Gods claim a godswood.

"Fuck," Mors Umber whispers aloud at the sight. Then he recalls thought-speech: "Which way?"

Fortunately, whatever power hangs in the air does not impede the Wayfinder's magic, its dial leading you ever inwards through corridors shrouded in snow, through halls filed with shards of bone until the walls turn from snow to ice. Ahead some forty feet a pale light shines, and you can faintly hear speech... helpless sobbing.

What do you do?

OOC: So far so good, everyone made their skill checks, did not hit any traps, and the Wayfinder kept you from getting turned around.

How big is this cave, roughly?

I'm checking SoTD size. Maybe with Sudden Widen (through Ancestral Awakening) we could avoid this problem altogether...

Remember: Bloodraven gave the Others the power to act directly within their sanctum when he mindfucked Varys. If this place counts as one, then they can pull out some crazy bullshit at need.

... @DragonParadox, how does one go about sacrificing a cave?

Figure out some way to grow a Godswood inside or above so the roots will burrow though the mountain

  1. The entire complex if very large, you have seen halls a much as 400 ft long and half as wide
  2. The tunnel you are in now is 10 ft wide and has a bend about 45 ft ahead. beyond that bend are the light and the sounds.

That act has already been balanced out by the frost dragon
Talon was talking about Bloodraven rummaging through the minds of Varys and Pycelle.

Also, how did the weirwoods of the past survive the Long Night? In fact, there's so many weirwoods Beyond the Wall that it has the single highest concentration anywhere in Westeros. What gives? Do the Others leave the trees alone or something? Or is there something unique about the trees that makes the Others stay away?
