The exception to this would be the Orange Prism which provides an untyped +1 caster level bonus.

A Pale Green Prism isn't bad either, though still quite expensive for the effect it provides.

The greatest benefit of using Ioun stones, however, is if price is not a concern. Then you can purchase or craft whichever you want them and use the Pathfinder rules to implant them in your body. That allows you to benefit from the effects while keeping the Ioun stones hidden and opening up item slots you can use for other stuff.

I wouldn't implant them, since I think that the visual effect of a floating halo of gemstones would be awesome for Lya.

Also, they are slotless, have some very fancy effects and the +6 stat boosters are actually cheaper then doing it the regular way, since you only need to stack 3 stones for 800 IM each.

@Snowfire - I like the vote, but it all hinges on the assumption that Praxter's doing this in return for getting the crown, which I'm not certain of. You might want to create a contingency if that's not the case.

It's not much of a secret to the nobility. The Northern Lords know (Manderly wizard), the Dornish know (Elia), the Greyjoys know (Rhaella), the Reach knows (Fey bullshit), the Lannisters know (Lanna)...

Yes. It's already in his frame of reference. I just want to show that it's not just the Fae that can do that. And maybe that our prices are probably a lot better.

If it's to undermine fey then I'm more than happy to let the cat out of the bag.

We did it in Braavos to keep the Windward Society from going to them by offering Reincarnation at a far lower price.

And now that I think about it, it's a damn good thing we raised Alysande from the dead. Uthero probably would have eventually approached them for some kind of bargain had we not gotten to him first.

Pretty much this, yeah. I want to cut them out of every part of the market they're trying to corner. We don't have to fight them, not really. We just need to make them inconsequential. Then they can come begging to us for their Crown, in the hopes that they can matter again.

Note: this is probably total hyperbole. But it's fun to imagine.

I have to admit, I took vicious satisfaction in gifting the Identification Ritual to Alysande and the Silver Eye, and stipulating that all cursed items come to us from now on for proper disposal.

In one fell swoop the fey lost their business for identifying magic items (and indeed are likely outclassed by the ritual we provided) and lost their business for item disposal.

A Pale Green Prism costs 30,000 gp, or 3,000 IM for us to craft. Since Ioun stones cost twice as much due to them being slotless, putting the same effect into an item would be 1,500 IM.

If that item was already enchanted, say a PfE Amulet for example, we could add it to the amulet for 1,700 IM (cost of the effect plus 50% of the PfE effect).

That's a lot more practical, IMO, and you would have the effect on a non-obvious piece of gear rather than a highly visible magical rock floating around your head.

Same goes for the Eastern Star, though pricing is kinda odd there. The continuous Comprehend Languages effect for 4,000 gp or 400 IM is actually the same price it would cost us to put on a regular item. I would still prefer a 400 IM Comprehend Languages ring, amulet, headband, earring, etc., rather than the Ioun stone for the same reason as I stated above. You look much less suspicious as a diplomat if you don't have a magic rock halo.
 
Frankly, my desire for getting Ioun stones for Lya is mostly stylistic. She really deserves some distinct piece of equipment by now and it would fit well with her image.

Hey, that's totally fair. A big reason I love Valyrian Steel so much is just because of how cool it looks, even if Adamantine outclasses it.
 
Frankly my take away from the last update is just as petty as Theon's, that "dragon sorcerer" vs. "GREAT FEY LADY" seems to be lacking in description.

Quite frankly it is more like "THE DRAGON REBORN" vs. "Some Pretty Bint".

Also, further proof that we don't need parlor tricks to make people take us seriously or to be maximum "SPOOKED".

Soft words from us and a reputation heavy enough to sink naval vessels has people wetting themselves.
