A Reforged World (NO SV, You are King of Italy, in a Greatly Changed World)

Keeping the church on our side is important as we are Italy, perhaps look into papal politics? Perhaps some temporal pressure to stop them from the worst of their excesses at least.
We might even be able to strongarm the pope into not throwing a hissy fit in reponse to the early reformation and therefore keep it from becoming a church schism and and instead have it stay as the internal reform of catholicism it was originally intended as.

...That may be a little more difficult. Especially as IRL, some nations took advantage of the chance to get out of the church's thumb during the whole situation. *Cough*Henry VIII*Cough*

From what I remember, the issues of our cannons is based on mobility and its speed, and weight.
kinda, we spent most of our time preparing naval guns for the navy and invented good shit.

And most batteries we created for land were kinda crap. Our rifles are far better then pistols and our pistols are better then our canon on land.

I'm sorry, but let me laugh!

AHAHAHAHAHA
Wasn't our issue that we needed better shells rather than guns?
And we don't have any of the industrial ideas to really do that.
...That may be a little more difficult. Especially as IRL, some nations took advantage of the chance to get out of the church's thumb during the whole situation. *Cough*Henry VIII*Cough*
And don't forget looting their churches, lands, and stripping them of their power.

that was a huge boon since lots of those lands could now be taxed.

Well I'm going to call the vote most likely tonight…

However I do have one more thing to say:

Meanwhile in Russia:D100 => 98

We have another OC arising from the annals of obscurity!

Good to see you again Vasily. Don't wage genocide on the Mongols and we should be fine.

But my god your command stats… the greatest general of the age possibly and the only man who can possibly unify the Russian princes!

So, how many Greats are running around this era?

We got the one royal that ran off to nation build the new land. We got us, whom became the gunsmith king of a newly unafied Italy. We got the incoming unafier of the Greeks, and now, we got one rising in Russia.

The era of the greats indeed.

Russian Napoleon coming to mess up Europe?
More like Novgorodian peasant boy gathers a huge army of rabble with one of the worlds greatest mercenary, trains them to conquer Russia under Novgorod… and is just about to begin his conquest with a mandate and generalship from his nation.

Instead of Muscovy taking the upper hand… which means the entire charecter of Russia might change if the Tsardom has lost…

That is if he can win.
So, how many Greats are running around this era?
Depends… historical or fictional? Because then this may surprise you but a lot…
We got the one royal that ran off to nation build the new land. We got us, whom became the gunsmith king of a newly unafied Italy. We got the incoming unafier of the Greeks, and now, we got one rising in Russia
Lots again…
The era of the greats indeed
The Era of Little conquerers.

That's what is called right now in my notes because all of the big nations save for England and France and Germany… and Poland have rising stars or leaders who are Teenagers or young adults.

It's definitely a rebirth led by the young and new then the old and broken.
I believe at this point, shells are too far away to target. Even the Valliere system guns, let alone the Gribeauval ones, would already be a good step forward.
I mean we possibly can get to breechloading…

By the end of the century.

If we decide to dedicate an entire lifetime… to the art of gunsmithing.

An Anthem of Italians
An Anthem of Italians

You were confused as you were just about to attend another night at the forge before being brought by Machiavelli to the local church.

Honestly, with the previous mess with the Roman Catholic Church about the entire estate of their holdings in the capital, you weren't sure if you were even going to be welcomed again by another church, however this one does.

Especially when you looked upon a boy about the same age or more in front of you with an excited look on his face, glowing further when he saw you walking in with an amused Machiavelli beside you.

"Hello! Your Majesty!" He bowed, while you curled an eyebrow wondering why your master even got you to meet with the young lad, but before you could say anything, the man continued. "Francesco de Layolle at your service, and one at that with tonight's performance."

A musician? You turned your head towards where the organ was located as the man walked towards it with a skip in his step. You then look back at Machievelli as he gestured to you to take a seat.

Inwardly, you continued to wonder why you were even here tonight when you could keep continuing the innovation spree on the off-chance that the French tried an invasion on a seemingly weakened Italia..

When the music played however, you finally understood..

More so as old Machiavelli smirked with a nod.

How to Unite a still welding country? A Song that speaks to them all.

Version One:

Il Canto degli Italiani
Written By: Armando Giovanni (A Soldier and Veteran of the Ottoman-Italian War)
Composed by: Francesco de Layolle

Brothers of Italy,
Italy has woken,
Bound Scipio's helmet
Upon her head.
Where is Victory?
Let her bow down,
For God created her
Citizen of Rome.

Chorus:
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called.
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called, yes!

We were for centuries
downtrodden, derided,
because we are not one people,
because we are divided.
Let one flag, one hope
gather us all.
The hour has struck
for us to unite.

Chorus

Let us unite, let us love one another,
For union and love
Reveal to the people
The ways of the Lord.
Let us swear to set free
The land of our birth:
United, for God,
Who can overcome us?

Chorus

From the Alps to Sicily,
Legnano is everywhere;
Every man has the heart
and hand of Ferruccio
The children of Italy
Are all called Balilla;
Every trumpet blast
sounds the Vespers.

Chorus

Mercenary swords,
they're feeble reeds.
The Ottoman ships
Has already lost its dreams.
The blood of Italy
and the German Blood
It drank, along with the Sailors,
But it burned its heart.

Chorus

Version 2:
Italia Forever
Written By: Armando Giovanni (A Soldier and Veteran of the Ottoman-Italian War)
Composed by: Francesco de Layolle

(First Stanza)
Marching Together (in the)
Name of Italia
Brothers and Sisters fighting tyranny
Before divided, Now united
Against our enemies and slavers too!

Come! Let them fight on the seas!
Come! Let them bleed on our fields!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!
We shall never surrender!
We shall never surrender!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!

(Second Stanza)
Italia Forever
Against our enemies
To bleed to save another life
Families suffer, no longer!
From Romans to Venetians
To Naples to Savoyans
United in one flag
United in song!

Come! Let them bleed on our seas!
Come! Let them bleed on our fields!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!
We shall never surrender!
We shall never surrender!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!

(Third Stanza)
Italians Together (in)
Unity, Justice, and Freedom
Serving one Kingdom
Serving one's own King!
My Brothers and Sisters
Of the Land of Greatness
We shall spread our wings
And rise from the ranks!

Come! Let them bleed on our seas!
Come! Let them bleed on our fields!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!
We shall never surrender!
We shall never surrender!
Italia will fight on, Come on my friends!

N/A: You may be asking: Why did I place down two songs? Well I was only going to post the 2nd Version before realising people would complain and say to use the Original Anthem (Il Canto degli Italiani), which I decided to place down as Version 1..along with changing the last part of it as it was strongly implying the Napoleonic Wars and Italian Liberation War against the Austrians and "Slave of Rome" To "Citizen of Rome" for obvious reasons with the Italian Navy and Foreign Policy.

Looks at the last two turns of the previous quest…

Oh wait I forgot…

We already invented that design and made it better.

So maybe functional multi shot single barrel designs?
Now, that is a Name I haven't heard in a long time...a LONG time...
Hey instead of an autocrat in the Russian form…. He's a republican in the Russian form… who wants to brutally unify Russia because brutality is all he knows…

So really its a 50/50 chance that Russia's culture will be entirely changed by him.
An Anthem of Italians
+20 to the rolls.

Book 3: Chapter 2: A New Age
Book 3: Chapter 2: A New Age
In Which the King realizes that Destiny is now Upon him, and the only thing he can do is meet it head-on.

It was rather strange to be speaking to so many men in front of you, but that was the extent of numerous problems that all came together at this very moment. You were not alone, that you were certain of, as you had your master right beside you, ready to save you from embarrassment and from the sanctity of having to desecrate yourself in the public forum that was this new institution, the Senate.

Yet even in that mirror or horror, that was standing in front of men to speak to them, there was a sense of calm. There was a sense of ease, as they all had no expectations for you. There was no anything.

You were a blank Canvas that you could change their entire being on.

Change their outlooks into something far more solid or malleable than you could ever expect.

Speech Preparedness:D100 => 79+20+3=102

Thankfully, you had had time to prepare for everything, to tell them precisely what you wished, not in writing, but in the words that you had, in your voice!

"All of you have come here to serve as representatives of my Government. That all of you have come here to not only see me, as I grant you leave to do such a noble and brilliant task, for the safety of Italia but also in the simple matters that are even greater than all. Of all the great matters of state, the eyes of the world are upon us, hoping that we fail in this great and noble endeavor that we all share."

You paused and moved. "Perhaps it is not unwise to remind ourselves that the great kings and Emperors of Europe do not have a noble and illustrious history, that shares, in our ancient history, when men gathered in the Republic of Rome to serve as their own masters. That we seek to reclaim much of that heritage, while keeping an eye to the noble politics that has granted us strength, and have become a mainstay of our times, is not lost to us."

"They want us to fail, for our noble experiment in bringing back our Senate could only be done by us, then any of the other fools that would seek to replicate it. So as we begin this great journey, do not forget that history is watching us all, and Almighty God will smile upon our noble quest."

As you ended, Machiavelli was smiling, and you could understand his pride as he walked behind you, going back towards the Palace forge. "I think that was rather simple. The kind that took no risks and was precisely as it was needed."

"Could have used a little more flowery language, but you got your point across accurately, and in a way that is not demeaning." Your master then frowned. "Back to the Smithy?"

"You can take a blacksmith from the forge and make him King, but you cannot take the Forge away from the Blacksmith. It's honest work that reminds me of my true passion. Not of yours."

Your master shook his head. "The stories that will be told of you when the future writes your histories. Do you ever think about what they will think of you?"

"Not particularly, I'd rather my inventions and actions do my talking for me." You replied. "Is there anything else Master, that you wish to speak of?"

Your master then sighed, and let him tap your back. "There will be many things that will require your attention in the future, do not forget that."

"I know." You state quietly, as you reached the new forge. "I just want you to know that sometimes, there are a lot of things I always want to do."

"Gunnery for you can be left to others." Your master replied.

"Yet there is no one better than I at Gunsmithing." You replied. "And you know that."

[]The Keys of State Craft: Your master wants you to learn the fine arts of making friends and allies. Even if it means you abhor them. DC: 40 Reward: You learn the fine arts of diplomacy.

Looks like Charles has found his passion. Building a nation out of nothing but his guts and the unruly conquistador horde that followed. :V

Well, not entirely nothing... He did, however, pull a Cortes with only 300 men... against the Aztecs...

Sure he managed to basically get all of Mexico with that... but hey, he was in the neighborhood for a trade deal with the local power and they tried to kill him, so...

He took exception to that. :V

Speaking of which, I wonder what Cortez and Pizarro are up to in this Timeline?
Actually, I can tell you precisely what they are up to.

Cortez is off doing bad things as Charles's enforcer in Mexico when he needs problems to disappear... Though his leash is really short, and he has to be very careful not to get executed by... Charles needs to make an example of people who disobey him.

This has the added effect of not nearly as many natives dying to Spanish bullshit, and slavery, seeing as many of those tribes have bent their knees to Charles and his new Crown... So there isn't as much slavery of the natives as there was IRL... just some... prisoner labor.

(On an aside, Charles's rule in Hispaniola and Cuba has actually prevented, for now at least, the genocide of the Island's native populations if only by the fact they are actually not actively being murdered by Spanish plantation owners through hard labor and neglect. They are still dying in droves due to old world diseases, but they aren't actively being murdered)

But they are still being completely devastated by smallpox and other old-world diseases.

And Cortez is trying to prevent Aid from getting to them. Which is where things are right now. Charles and his supporters in a power struggle with Spanish supporters who only nominally trust Charles and want to use him as a way to... get power for themselves.

So there is that side of the struggle that will continue.

(Charles showing up in the Americas has both been a detriment to Spanish Imperialism... but do not mistake his rule for Benevolent. He's still doing the whole, convert or Die that the Spanish were known for.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile with Pizarro...

With Charles holding the reigns, he's actually mapping and doing conquistador stuff in the Mississippi Delta rather than going to South America... for now.

Seeing as he is actually trying to find a route to Asia at this point, and wants gold and silver and plunder.

So expect an invasion of the Inca sooner rather then later.

Well, not entirely nothing... He did, however, pull a Cortes with only 300 men... against the Aztecs...

Now, the only question is, will he end up making an Americas empire, or would he get a new neighbor that as seems to be the current pattern, led by a wonderkund child?
