You may leave the ring, but the ring never leaves you. (Non canon)
Well, been watching an anime called Kinnikuman and since Abe was a wrestler I got inspired.
You may leave the ring, but the ring never leaves you
Abe knew this mansion was big, but now it was getting ridiculous.
He is pretty sure he found what was the 5th bathroom already, either that or that he forgot that it was the same bathroom he had gone trough like 3 or 4 times by now.
Well not that anyone can blame him, even that girl Gloria if he remembers right her name really was having trouble navigating the labyrinth that once belonged to that Snake of Burns.
He wonders how Beakley and Bates can navigate this place with so much ease.
As Abe decides to continue his stroll trough the hallways of the mansions, he gets curious and decides to open another door, he really needs to start checking what the hell Burns even owned after all.
He wished he hadn't even opened said door, after all he was sure this would give him nightmares, apart from well being a part of his past he never wanted to remember.
The room was nothing more than a monument to something he had done in the past, there was even a miniature ring and a practice dummy.
After all nothing could really remove Glamorous Godfrey from his memories.
The most renowed Heel wrestler of all times, well the most renowed from the 50's, he was more than sure many more came after him and are still famous to this day.
Still he should probably leave before someone comes here and he has to give explanations, he loved telling stories sure, but this one is one that he rather leave buried to the end of his days.
But he should have known that even thinking about it was poking Murphy with a stick.
As a small duck girl came into the room.
''Wow, Mr Simpson, didn't knew you were a fan of wrestling, also grandma told me to give you these, you forgot them on the 3rd bathroom'' Webby said in a awed tone, that changed into a normal one as she hander him a bottle of pills.
''I swear to god I am going to need to buy spares for every bathroom in this house until I can label every single one of these doors'' Abe internallly cursed at how big this place was ''As for the wrestling stuff, well it is not mine per se'' Abe said in a honest tone, it has been a while since he told a story and he is sure Webby can keep a secret.
''Riiiight, you won this on a poker game, but wait you said per se? there is a story behind all this isn't there?'' Webby said in a excited curious tone.
''Yes, come on kiddo take a seat, but you gotta promise me this is between us two only'' Abe said as he took a seat on a nearby chair and Webby jumped into his leg while making a gesture that her lips would be sealed.
''Hehehe good girl, well to start it was the 50's if I remember correctly it was the 53, the war had ended by 8 years now and I found myself low on fund, we may have been war heroes, but well you couldn't really scrap by after 5 years of returning from a war, especially during the recession of the 53'' Abe said as Webby silently listened to his stories as the memories of those days came back to him.
''Various bussiness ventures had fallen off for me and I was on a desesperate need for some cash, then I saw it, a wrestling match, from what I heard at the time the pay wasn't bad and my body was still in top form thanks to my service, so I decided to try my luck with this gig, I got in pretty easy due to my body being what they were looking for, the circuit had already a lot of good guys which we called baby faces back in the day, so the guy that hired me said that they needed a bad guy which were called heels back then and that is how Glamorous Godfrey was born'' Abe continued his story.
''I suppose it went pretty well for you Mr. Simpson'' Webby said with a little sarcasm on her voice considering where they were standing right now.
''Understament of the century kid, I wasn't just a heel back then, I was their king, people may think that wrestling now is just a farse and all that and sure it is true, but back in the day they didn't pay us for scripted matches, no they paid us for putting up the best real fights they would see in their lives, after all people wanted to see how two guys duked it out on the ring at all their strenght, so while we would use stuff like a punch or a hold here and there, I still remember some of the classics like an elbow drop, an elbow stamp or the back breaking camel clutch, but what defined us was our fighting styles, baby faces would fight fairly all the time, never hitting below the belt, attacking before the bell rang or any kind of those things, but heels? oh no we would use every single trick in the book we could think of, eye poking, attacking them when they were going for the ropes, hits below the belt, I even wrotte a book about it back in the day'' Abe said as he pointed to a case with a book in it to which Webby could clearly read.
The Way of the Heels by Glamorous Godfrey 1st edition.
''But if you were so famous back then Mr. Simpson, why do you want to keep hidden that part of your past?'' Webby asked as the duck girl still remembers that the old man told her that this story would between themselves.
Abe looked down ashamed, the old man still remembering the feelings he felt back in the day, his wrestling career was in the clouds, various matches prepared, various contracts signed and a lot of merchandise, he was on top of the world, but his lips finally opened to answer the question ''It wasn't worth it, it just wasn't, I may have been living my life like a king on the outside, but in the inside, it was the most miserable experience in all of my life, Heels weren't liked in general, but as their king? I was the one who they always though of when it came to the word heel, they reviled me, they hated me for what I would do in a match to get the win, the feeling of not even being able to show my face on any event, even veterans reunions made me realyze that being hated by the entire world was the worst feeling I could ever feel, the money just wasn't worth the hassle of people constantly shunning you away for the rest of your life, even my own heel partners on the circuit would hate me out of the ring, I was so sick of it that Glamorous Godfrey was left to be forgotten in a old storage unit I bought back in the day'' Abe finished his tale.
''Wow that is deep, suppose that life is not for everyone unlike certain people I know'' Webby said, with the last part for herself,, but Abe wasn't truly deaf to not hear that, but he won't go digging into that rabbit hole, no that is a thing he will ask for when either Webby or Mr Beakly are ready.
''Still that was the end of Glamorous Godfrey, I went back to just being old Abe Simpson, but it wasn't so bad really, being able live normally again was nice, besides not soon after that I met a wonderful woman back in the day, someone who would cause me a lot of headaches later down the road, but someone I won't ever regret meeting'' Abe said as he pulled out his wallet with various photos.
He and Mona may have their differences these days, but he can say it was love that brought them together back in the day, hell the entire relationship with Homer and her may be strained and on the way of trying to mend something far too late.
But he wasn't perfect either, he still had his own faults, faults that he regrets taking out on Homer back then when Mona dissapeared.
But he can say he doesn't regret having met Mona back during those day and having Homer as a son.
Especially since Homer managed to succeed at what no Simpson men could ever do, have a beautiful and stable family despite their own faults.
''So what are you going to do with all this stuff Mr Simpson?'' Webby asked bringing back the old man to the real world.
''Wha wha, ah right these things, I will probably sell them to a collector, pretty sure that someone must be interesed on all this stuff and I am more than sure it will piss off Burns to no end, now come on if I can remember your grandmother said she was going to bake some cookies, which would go well with some milk, my throat is already dry from that story'' Abe said as she put Webby back on her feet, while the little girl cheered at the though of eating some sugary goods.
As they both get out of the room, Abe cannot help but smile at the little girl and remind himself of his family, especially Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
The story of Glamorous Godfrey may be over, but the story of the ''honest'' Abe Simpson still can go on for a little longer after all.
