La Roche, Four Days Ago
"Y-you... can't do this!" The Germainian woman argued, her words punctuated by a brief coughing spell that speckled her assailant's cheek with blood.

Looking down on the incapacitated Captain of the GRÜNEWALD, Karin removed her wand from the sole survivor's shoulder. "Tell me where my daughter went and I might be inclined to ignore your part in her abduction."

Biting back a scream, Adelind spat in the Tristainian Noblewoman's steel-masked face. "Your slag of a daughter seemed more than willing to follow her supposed captor. What was the term she used? Oh, right 'Master' was was it? A whore, just like her mother." The captain taunted with a crimson-toothed grin, receiving a heeled boot on her hand in return.

"You will keep your foul lies to yourself and answer my questions. I know for a fact that your ship was hired to ferry a hooded man and a pink haired child to Albion, now tell me where you took them!" The Duchess ordered, grinding her heel into the dusky woman's bruised flesh as the small bones of her hand could be heard to snap.

With a strangled cry, she gave in. "Londinium!" Her crew was dead, her ship in tatters, and her pride as a Germanian was tarnished... all to help an old man spite the Valliere matron. Two decades of feuding with the Tristainians over a small patch of border suddenly didn't seem worth it. "T-they paid me to t-t-take them to Londinium!"

"Thank you very much, Miss Kruse, you have been most helpful." Karin said cooly, removing the boot and cleaning her sword on the vest of a nearby body. Adelind could only watch in helpless anger as the infamous woman climbed atop her massive mount. As she was about to make an attempt at crawling out of the wreckage and back toward town, The Heavy Wind called out to her, "I'm sorry miss Kruse, but I may only do as necessary so long as there remain no witness."

The plucky heroine is murdering tons of people. It make me feel all fuzzy inside.

More seriously, why does she believe that germanians helped us?
Because she tracked you to the port city of La Roche and asked around about her daughter until someone pointed out the ship you took. She then boarded the ship midflight, cut down the masts and windstones, rode the ship as it fell to the ground slaughtering the crew, and tortured the captain.

Not sure how placid the atronachs would be. I mean, that's an expensive spell, it might takes days to summon enough to make it worthwhile. While runes can be set up quickly and easily.

And by Louise without Cynric needing to worry about the terror she could be with conjuration magic.
Was hoping for packing the boat with explosives / amplifiers, but poison and f s...

What are these two things?
1) me being so tired that I literally had my hands sliding on my phone / keyboard as I typed, kind of waking up, and trying to fix it.
But, amplifiers I meant like gunpowder, and anything that when a fire/explosion is happening will add to it. F s ? Not entirely sure how that happened but it was supposed to be "poison and fire symbols" and I had intended to state because Louise can at least do the fire ones and she has far more magicka available than Cynric does.
Perhaps as the day goes and she sets up the extra explosive things, Cynric could continue crafting scrolls to summon atronachs, so when he does drop the ship bomb he can also throw a few of those guys into the assault, effectively for free.

Meteoric Descent
"-nd in the center, Iya" You finish describing the Daedric rune pattern for a poison rune trap. Over the last six hours, your apprentice has been placing fire runes upon every surface in the ship.

Carefully testing the new spell, Louise pokes her tongue out in concentration as she creates the magical toxin. "Are you sure we want to destroy our new ship, master? It seems rather wasteful if you ask me." She complains for what must be the hundredth time today.

"Well then, it is fortunate that I did not." You rebuke. "We can always find a new ship or make our own if we so desire, the important thing to remember is that nobody ever expects a flying vessel to crash into one of their buildings."

Sighing while she continues to place down rune circles, the girl grumbles loudly to herself. "Stupid old men, I could just blow the stupid wooden walls to pieces, but noooo, lets destroy our perfectly good boat instead. Idiot. Stupid. Foo-" You stop listening to her childish whining and head up to the top deck. Climbing the stairs, you order the zombie crew to land the ship to chop down the mast and wait for Louise to finish her work.

After half an hour, the girl stomps her way over to sit beside you with an irritated expression and the two of you have a late lunch in silence before heading to bed early.

----------------------

Waking up shortly after midnight, you approach the girl's bed and shake her gently. "Louise, time to wake up."

"'kay." She mumbles as she sits up in bed, blinking tiredly and rubbing her eyes. You head for the door and turn back to go over the plan, but see that she's fallen asleep sitting up.

---------------------

An hour and several attempts later, the two of you are standing in the chilly wind of predawn as the sound of chattering teeth echoes around you. "Y-you're a b-b-bastard!" The young woman stutters.

With an innocent smile, you look down your apprentice as the water drips from her body to pool at her feet. "Hmm? Did you say something?"

You can almost hear the girl's teeth grinding as you look over the side of the ship to watch the city below. "I h-hate you." Ah, the fickle nature of a young woman's heart. "S-s-so much hate."

Patting her damp hair, you ignore the muttered curses toward your lineage and begin casting an inverted Feather charm on the ship's hull. As the vessel's buoyancy drops, you order the zombies to untie the windstones. The ship rapidly plunges toward the ground, the crew being left behind as the effects of Feather speed up it's descent. Your apprentice beside you in the sky, the two of you watch as the hill that the castle is on collapses in on itself before erupting into column of fire. Burning and poisoned shrapnel are launched outward, over the shattered remains of the outer palisade and into the city, demolishing houses and poisoning crops as the undead sailors rain down upon the surrounding area.

Floating gently to the ruined fort, you touch down amid mangled bodies and panicked screams. The immediate area is devoid of survivors, but the soldiers from elsewhere in the city will be sure to hurry toward the crash site. Looking over the burning crater, you-

Forgot about the ring, that's a good reason to risk it.

You want to leave this world before we've visited the elves?
An Oblivion gate is a two way portal unless you take the anchoring sigil stone through with you.
I feel pretty "meh" about the elves and can go either way.
(Perhaps a more interesting setting would be the Rune Soldier elves, which were manipulative and not the typical "good-guy" elves.)
The Halkeginia elves aren't any more 'good guys' than the Tamriel elves. They're a group of desert dwelling spiritualists who view humans as shortsighted barbarians and the majority of them are hostile to any non-elf/void-mage elf they come across ever since Brimir led a holy war against them. They also view themselves as the protectors of Shaitan's gate.

"Very well. Envoy of the elf king."

Joseph prompted Lord Bidashal.

"'King' is not the correct way of saying it. We do not have this 'king' title you barbarians use."

In a quiet voice, the tall elf said.

Although he was called a "barbarian," Joseph did not feel resentful at all. Gallia was connected to the land the elves inhabited at the east frontier. There were contacts with the elves for a long time already... Those contacts could not be called amicable, but he had already gotten used to the contempt the elves had towards human beings.

"Is it 'Chieftain'? Err, is it 'Chief'? Anyway, you elect your leaders through a voting process, right? What a troublesome thing you are doing..."

"We have already learned the foolishness of deciding the leader through lineage since a long time ago. If you address him as 'king' and not 'chief,' it would be a great insult towards us."

"Well then, tell me about the intentions of Chief Tariq of the 'Nephthys,' Lord Bidashal."

With a formal address, he asked that of the elf envoy."

"The 'Shaitan's Gate' we protect has become quite active lately."

"Is it something of the Holy Land?"

"To you all it is the Holy Land, but to us it is the abominable 'Shaitan's Gate.' Within these past few decades, its activity had become livelier. We think that the power of the thing known amongst you all as the 'Void'... has caused the revival of Shaitan's Gate."

"Calling the sacred power 'demon's power', you elves are really arrogant, huh."

"The power depends on the user, it can become light or darkness. The power which had formerly destroyed our world. You all may think of it as the God's power, but for us, it is the demon's power. A symbol of darkness. Our prophecy is this - When the four demons gather, the power of the real demon will be awakened. The power of the true demon will probably bring about catastrophe once again."

"It is worrisome for them to gather... is that it?"

"That's it. Ever since the great catastrophe six thousand years ago, a few times before this, the demon's powers had showed signs of gathering. Every time that happened, we were terrified. We wanted to secretly take away this 'Shaitan's Gate' which brought the catastrophe upon us. We wanted to bring it somewhere without any living beings. With that, the safety of the world would be preserved."

Here Do We Toil
"Most mages, when seeking to create a portal into the realms of Oblivion, would seek the aid of a Daedric Lord so as to receive their sigil upon a sigil stone and an active participant in the ritual on the other side of the intended portal." You explain to Louise as you continue to telekinetically maneuver stones into position. "As I do not intend to open a doorway between this world and a Prince's realm, I will obviously need to circumvent that step."

It has been a week since the two of you destroyed Castle Ceodor and made a hasty retreat toward the southern edge of the floating isle, bringing several of the older chaurus with you now that half had metamorphosed into hunters and carried more eggs to hide across the countryside. From there, you made your way back to the Valliere properties and let your apprentice spend some time with her family while you began laying the groundwork for your personal style of Oblivion gate. Several hundred stones, gathered by peasants under your apprentice's orders, are slowly being assembled to form the base of the tower that would stabilize the gate.

From her position on one of the larger stones, Louise whines, "How does this help my spellcasting when you won't teach me how to conjure anything?"

"Conjuration is a dangerous school of magic that can have terrible consequences if you make even the most minor of mistakes, I will not be teaching you any such spells until I deem you ready." Which is to say never, you continue in your head as the girl pouts. "Ignoring that fact, you seem to be making the same mistake as most novices before you."

Tilting her head, she asks, "I'm not doing anything, how could I have made a mistake?"

Setting another stone in place, you use your telekinesis to flip her upside down and knock on her seat with her head. "Do not assume that all mistakes are made in action. Many accidents happen due to poor understanding, doubly so when it comes to magic. Your problem is that you are under the impression that the 'schools' of magic are an absolute rule when they are merely an imperfect description of general effects or mechanics and subject to frequent change."

"How is it my fault that you started teaching me like that instead of explaining what you meant?!" Your apprentice growls, causing tiny sparks to flicker from her sword as she climbs back onto her perch.

Resuming your work, you keep an eye on her weapon and apologize. "You are correct, I should have clarified sooner." Well, maybe apologize is too strong of a word. "It doesn't matter. What is important is that you understand that that is a simplified categorization method and nothing more. The best way that I have come up with for a more accurate categorization is; Solar magic, Lunar magic, and Law magic."

"Solar magic is the manipulation of magicka that flows from Aetherious and mixes with the magicka produced by the mage's soul, the standard schools of magic are in this category. Lunar magic is the twisting, reflecting, and manipulation of solar magic and includes Shadow magic and possibly Akaviri dragon magics. Lastly, Law magic is the act of bending the world to your whim through sheer force of being and is the most difficult to achieve even minor success in, but is extremely potent with no cost to the user other than training time. Law magic includes legendary skills such as Yokudan Sword-Singing, Nordic Thu'um, and Dwimeri Tonal Architecture."

Placing the final stone for the day, you turn away from the growing cylinder of stone and face your apprentice. The girl appears to be deep in thought, so you pat her head as you leave the forested clearing. "Just remember that all magic is magic and do not let the artificial rules of others hold you back."

We could probably use our downtime to renew our ingredient supply. We have all but exhausted our magicka potion components.
