I have no clue why someone said that the Dum Expedition airship relied partially on the Winds - The Spirit of Grungni is a completely dwarfish vessel, and no wizard was upon it as it ventured into the Wastes to rescue Dum's survivors in Daemonslayer.
Just managed to find it, incidentally. No idea on where they're getting it from, but even then it seems I misremembered about the enchantment being vital for the flying part.

...Fuck, if we really do treat the Elfcation as a guaranteed thing, which it's not but it's pretty close to, this suddenly starts to look a lot better. Not just a chance to show off to the elves, but a smack in the face and Challenge to the greatest wizards of the Empire, to come together and craft the greatest flying ship they can between them all, something that Mathilde can take and show off to the High Elves on her upcoming vacation, damn would that light a fire under their asses, and be such a lovely scene.

I'm still not sure how often this ship is going to come up and be awesome, its still of somewhat limited applicability, still slower than our gyrocarriage, but I'm not immune to sheer cool factor.

I still want the Armor more than the ship, as that'll have Value in pretty much every fight in the future, if not necessarily impact, and I'll still vote for a few of the less likely plans because I think they're neat, but fine, Ship can have my vote instead of Pickle's plan. If Armor ever matches Ship though I'm dropping my ship vote.

[X] Armor of von Tarnus
[X] Plan: The Prismatic Wanderer

[x] Elector-Countess
[X] Save the boon until we choose our next project
[X] Plan: Wrong Turn at Albuquerque

Elector Countess still sounds like a fantastic next project though, and the ship could even help with that. :V

Not to discourage you from voting for my preferred option but I would advise to not bet on the ship going on the elfcation. If the ship wins that will probably take a few turns to actually get build and most plans (as unreliable as they are) have the elfcation happen next turn or at most the turn after.

Yeah, given that Boney has okayed using ap to get involved with the construction, we know at the bare minimum that it won't be ready next turn.

Yeah, I don't expect us to wait long enough to delay the Elfcation further. We did 4.5 waystone actions this turn, the people are starved for adventure and leisure.

I'm uncertain if he meant it would be during construction, or after the fact - but in defense of the possibility it's ready by the elfcation, the ship being made to fly doesn't necessarily have to be built from the ground up, but rather could be refitted from one that's already seaworthy.

Not that I'd be surprised if it wasn't ready by the end of turn either, a year isn't all that long.

I do kinda hope that if the colleges build us a ship we get better then just a standard wolfship enchanted. Like at least build the bloody thing yourself you lazy fucks!

It was specifically getting involved in the creation of the ship.
Would there be any possibility of Mathilde getting to actually spend some actions getting herself and/or WEBMAT involved in the creation of the airship, if we pick it as our boon? Actually getting to get our fingers dirty with the metaphorical steaming guts of reality being sliced open is a fair chunk of the appeal of WizardQuest, to me.
I like that idea. Yes.

Doesn't have to be standard though, does it? Could just be a really rizzed up ship that already exists, lol.

Mathilde being friends with the queen may help grease the wheels on that one, not that I think the collective leadership of the colleges weren't already up to getting the best damn ship to ever sail.

Ah, so it is. That doesn't technically rule out having the ship available for an end-of-turn voyage, but it makes it less likely, certainly.

...

Hey, so, you know how brettonia allows cannon on ships due to a loophole in the prohibition against gunpowder? :V

Firstly I kinda just am hoping that the jades just supply cool special lumber for the project because that be absolutely in their wheelhouse and pretty neat.
Second now that you said "set sail" I'm actually realizing that the ship might have sails, I hope it doesn't because I like the aesthetic more if it's just a hull flying around but it might if boney decides it makes sense.

The airship can carry more loot, more people, and more equipment. Our gyrocarriage forced us to leave most of our loot behind from the black library.
The gyrocarriage allowed us to take any loot from Alkharad.

Ship is slower by a very very wide margin. Its theoretical ability to pull off incredibly fast extraction under short time limit is entirely speculative.

Why do you think we needed incredibly fast extraction? Were the local peasants going to kill Mathilde?

I would argue we could have left at a snail's pace as long as we were in the air and out of bow range. Not that the airship is that slow of course.

Iirc the problem was that with most of the necromancers dead the locals went on a bit of a looting and revenge spree buuuuuut if we hade a gigantic flying warship I bet we could have gunboat diplomacied into more loot aka "step away from the shiny and no one gets broadsided."

You are correct, the Gyrocarriage allowed us to take any loot from Alkaseltzer at all... but not all the loot. We only got the skull of the (mismatched) dragon skeleton. If we'd had an Airship, imagine the sick furniture we could have! Skull chair, eat your heart out -- rib-cage porch swing! Dragonback coat rack!

I think the relative slowness of the ship would logically be counteracted by the increased storage size- one trip with everything versus multiple- but I don't know how relevant any of that is. To my mind "vote for your reward" is a quest mechanic and Boney's not gonna give us half a dozen rewards for one adventure no matter what.

I think all three frontrunners would necessity some action point expenditure. The armor needs at least one AP to train in, the ship would improve if we spend ap improving it ourselves and pickles bag of wonders would need some ap to actually integrate some of the rewards

Tenure, on the other hand, is quick and easy and simple.

With regards to taking the ship to Ulthuan, I suspect it would end up staying in Lothern. One, because any crew wouldn't have Mathilde's permission to travel to Nagarythe, and two because the Asur would probably not be thrilled about the idea of a floating warship under the control of someone they know very little about running around their territory.

Yup. My personal pitch was to have it operating off the coast of Nagarythe to do a spot of privateering on the raiding vessels after they disgorge their druchii raiders.

This would require permission as well, but I imagine the druchii face punching enthusiasts could be convinced to permit a new layer of face punching at sea.

Too bad ships take time to make. :(

How was it that eike put it? "Mathilde takes the most direct route to her diplomatic goal"?

No more direct way to bring gunboats to a diplomatic meet than as the crow flies, dohohohoho!

I mean, is this actually true? We've picked places clean plenty of times, he doesn't just make up reasons for us not to be able to take everything back whenever there's logically going to be a lot of stuff to loot. What's tended to happen instead is that there are 1d6s for what loot is present.

I think if we vote to bring the capacity to take back all the loot, we'll get to take back all the loot. We'll have earned it, after all.

As for the ship, there are means of making things invisible in the college repertoire, which would help mitigate issues with speed, particularly if we retain an ability to signal for it to close in from a staged location so the Ulgu haze doesn't give it away from being too close.

The Armor doesn't need AP, Boney has stated that we could learn how to move in armor with just time spent, though I'd wager we would spend that AP to use the armor on the elfcation. And I don't see how any of Pickles plan requires any integrating AP at all?

also don't forget that the ship would take a while to build.

Which would probably be the funniest possible time for Mathilde to randomly on Elfcation, leaving the colleges wondering to do with the giant airship they've been building now.

(Mathilde's Will would probably specify something, still funny regardless)

You are misreading my argument.

I am saying that there is no guarantee at all that the ship would have been fast enough to dock, allow us to load it up and then leave. It would have to stay further away because Alkharad was Alkharad in a city under watch and it would take longer to respond to the signal to exfiltrate us.

The Kul encampment is a much better example of where Wanderer would've made for good loot carrier. Black Library is not.

EDIT: There is some argument to be made about the broadside diplomacy, and its fairly convincing, but i dunno. Still would take the ship overtaking the peasant response time.
