I've tried to ask before, but does Ithilmar armour actually permit casting?
Yes. That's ithilmar's primary selling point, that it doesn't interfere with spellcasting.
No. The advantage Ithilmar provides for Wizards is that it doesn't interfere with general spellcasting in the same way heavy armour usually does.
It's the case in the tabletop and it's also reflected in the general lore. So from Mathilde's AA-having perspective, the chief advantage pre-enchantment is that if she's wearing robes and her AA drops mid-intense-combat, she's in a rough spot, but if she's wearing ithilmar and AA drops mid-intense-combat, she's still more stab-resistant than most.

hm. the oly vote i ever put in was to decline reward.
but if its this contentious- i dont want the armor

Yup, that's literally every option except for Von Tarnus and the Pickle varients (and also the ones that were for Literally Nothing, for reasons that'll become clear). I realize that is entirely symbolic when there's only one thing really a contender that's not Von Tarnus and the Pickle varients, which is what I was already voting for, but I think it'll help me make my point.

My position is we have done a big thing, and we've earned a big reward. Not eight medium, rewards, a BIG reward. A big thing that every time it comes up makes us go, "man, we REALLY earned that big thing, with those morbs we presented." This giant absurd vote includes things I straight up strenously argued against, in the elector countess options, because they are indeed Big Things. And yet...

There is one big thing I've left off this giant absurd vote. Because it's the only big thing where we're not just having Mathilde benefit from it, but depriving the others of its use. The armor of Von Tarnus is not kept locked up in a vault at all times, it is handed out when the colleges think the need is appropriate. And I genuinely believe the colleges hand it out far more often the Mathilde would ever make use of it, and would continue to do so if we weren't using it. (One notable probable future beneficiary is one Mandred Holswig-Schliestein.) In fact, not asking for the armor of Von Tarnus here doesn't actually stop us from going "hey I think I've got a good case for making use of the armor of von tarnus for X" at any point in the future.

So, here's my largely symbolic vote that demonstrates the degree I feel those two points.

Ok so loremasters, but what about the standard issue High Elf magician guys? Their models don't wear armour. Is it because of fashion? Are they too lowly ranked to deserve ithilmar armour or too poor to afford it?

It's the case in the tabletop and it's also reflected in the general lore
Actually on the tabletop (and more generally in the lore), ithilmar has no casting properties until we reach the 2023 "Forces of Fantasy" book released for The Old World. It often feels like it should, but previously lore on ithilmar tended to focus on how light and easy to move in it was.

How come Teclis is the only mage who wears armour?
A) He's not. B) He doesn't wear armour (outside of his magic helmet which provides so little physical protection the TT still didn't give him an armour save).

In the spirit of approval voting. I have come around to Tenure since it was first proposed, and, will add it to this old Coelacanth of a ballot. All else is as it was before.

I think a lot of people dissatisfied with the ship option would be a lot happier with the flying tower.

The ship is only useful when we're travelling. The tower would be useful even when it's parked.

Mathilde has a habit of establishing labs and workshops wherever she goes—the underground palace in Stirland, the penthouse at K8P, and the Waystone Project HQ in Laurelorn. With this we would never have to invest in a new lab should we begin an arc outside of those places, because we can just bring it with us.

It won't replace Mathilde's home at K8P any more than the Project HQ has.

It is wizard aesthetic as fuck. Fozzrik did it. Do you want to be like Fozzrik? Of course you do.

If we ever plan on doing adventures or arcs outside of the Empire (Bretonnia, Estalia and Tilea, The Border Princes, Nehekara, the Dark Lands etc), then being able to bring our own fortifications with us would be a massive boon to establishing a HQ/beachhead/base of operations. This actually also applies within the Empire, in places like the Forest of Shadows. Being able to bring our own tower to fight Melkhior would be a strong advantage.

As the dwarves say, when in doubt, fortify. And there's few better fortifications than one we can just plant anywhere we need it.

Also an approval vote for Elector Countess because I think it's cool.

I look away after like a month of the vote being fairly solid in favor of the Ship and now the Grab-bag is in the lead? What in the world triggered that mass change in opinion?

My personal hope is that the ship pulls back into the lead. The grab-bag really doesn't interest me nearly as much. It's nice, but not flying warship cool.

My personal favorite is the Tower, mainly because narratively I like the idea of treating it like a field research outpost.

It isn't supposed to be better than our home at K8P, but it allows us to have access to all the equipment that we need to conduct research in the field.

Like imagine something like the end of the Karak Dum Expedition, only rather than the improvised tests we did we had access to the tower so that we could do highly detailed tests that would otherwise require going all the way back to our K8P lab to do.

While I was more enthusiastic about the research variant, since we can expand the ship afterwards either way I've been envisioning this growing into a research vessel anyways.

And, well. It comes with cannon, too. The airship is absolutely something that can act as a fortification - just instead of a moat, it's high in the air, all the functions about being able to sally out and retreat back in are still there, but also it can move faster.

The faster movement is probably the most important thing to me between it and the tower, tbh. We saw how important that could be during the Dum expedition, and just because this girl will be tough as nails in a fight doesn't mean we want to let anyone else start that fight on their terms.

That aside, I'd have preferred a zepplin aesthetic, but we're all constrained by the frontrunners I suppose...

Well, the Wanderer is only one vote behind! It would honestly be really funny if we went through all of that emotional turmoil just for it to immediately get back the lead.

EDIT: And there it goes! Well... I'm going to bed.

Entirely true, which is why I am also fine with the ship. Since it will have some room for lab stuff, plus it will be a fair big quicker.

I think the main difference in research is that a tower is better suited to dropping in a location and doing all the research on site, meanwhile the ship is good for zipping in to do the preliminary research then returning home to do the more detailed stuff.

Also the ship is a more mobile war asset that can raid the enemy, compared to the tower that would act as a defensive hard point for an army.

as was brought up, i believe by boney, that tends to be what usually happens.

I got curious and found out that I had voted for the pickle requests (probably because Still Better Than Von Tarnus)
And since they're more of a threat to my beloved airship than the armor now... :V
(Okay, I don't actually mind them that much, there's a bunch of pleasingly cool stuff in there, but like. Ship!!! But I probably wouldn't be heartbroken if the requests won in the end, either)

Is speed really such an important factor? And as for the ship also being a fortification—it's going to be based on a wolfship. Those things are made from wood. I wouldn't want to use it as a fortification because a battery of canon could blow through it. A tower would be stone, and it wouldn't be an old fashioned one like Drakenhof, but a modern one made to withstand artillery—at least, withstand it long enough to withdraw.

The grabbag is fine, a bunch of smaller but still useful things. It is just a bit meh for my tastes.

Like it isn't offensive or anything, I just am not all that interested in it.
