Space Adventure is IMO superior to Historian
The thing is playing as the good guys trying to unite all races of this dark galaxy in peace has been used so many times it's boring.

This just puts the MCs faction interests as "being good" at the end which might sound great considering the state of the galaxy but also has been used in so many other quests and fics..

Personally a faction who cares about the golden past then the current dark future sounds something fresh and with a lot of potential.

Ofcourse..there is also the thing about playing as a literal heavy militarized galactic Archeological organisation who finds shit from the mouth of cthulu..

Sounds pretty cool..you know

I don't think the space adventure is about that? it says it in the name, its adventuring and picking up side characters for crew, there is no mention of uniting the races or any type of civ building

Still either way working with the interest of "let's be happy and have ton of fun" sounds a bit overused again especially in the context of WH40K.

Also you would create a civ one way or another in that as well but most likely through vessels than outright control.
 
I mean, I'd say, defying the fundamental Ethos of the setting is still pretty unique...

But you have to admit it's been done to death with many 40k quests.

I'm just in it for a more diagonal approach to things that what we've seen, with more personalized goals than the general welfare of the galaxy. I've never seen an Indiana Jones type character in 40k, and that sounds interesting to me, so why not give it a shot over what's already been done?

I like the idea of the rebuilding Vaul best, but history and archeology sounds really cool too.

Those are just comparisons, we would still be pretty unique, because Trazyn is literally the only other character that is similar to us, hence the comparisons. And then, we are still different, Trazyn really doesn't care about history, he is a hoarder and likes unique artifacts and people in his collection and see's nothing wrong with throwing stuff away, if he can get something more "unique". We on the other hand, will be trying to actually understand the history and protect the evidence of it, not just throw stuff away, because we can get limited edition of a warlord from the Age of Strife.

Right, what it boils down to in my book is that I hate 40K as it stands, it's a universe where hope goes to die or be turned into a tool for evil. I'm tired of shit hitting the fan and it all being about compromising and compromising and hoping that events don't force you to become Just Another Problem for Everyone. So I went with a more optimistic sort with good intentions, who wants to make things better while seeing the full scope of the galaxy and all that it could be. Sure, I could have optimized it to be better at fighting, or with a bigger toolkit, but those would have come at costs elsewhere--either by escalating the threats to the point where whatever our intentions were, it would be Total War from end to end--or by sacrificing some of the foundational work that comes with my setup.

So instead, we got Vita, an ancient AI who's outlived pretty much any work of man save the God-Emperor himself, who was never designed for some secret plan, was never some secret backup, just had gumption, will, and just enough inherent personhood to endure terrible circumstances, and came out the other end... Beholden to none except her own conscience or her own interests. Chaos doesn't get to reach in and manipulate her, there's no Secret Codes that the Emperor may or may not have laid in as contingencies.

We're free, to go where we will, do what we will, guided only by our own interests and desires. Do we want to overthrow an evil empire? We can do that. Do we want to discover lost mysteries of an ancient ruin? We can do that too! We're not forced to just ignore something Neat just because we can't resolve it in one fell swoop, it's still Exploring if you're constantly digging new things out from an interesting site!

And also, I'll be honest, Neablis so far has genuinely impressed me with their writing ability, and I think it would be wasted on what amounts to being a highly introspective story, where we only interact with people in so far as it gets us closer to the dream of Straightening Out the Timeline. I'm sure they'd still be able to make it work out well, but despite being equipped with a diplomatic suite, there's nobody around who's really willing to talk from its starting location. Furthermore, it's dependent on an outside force's favor to endure the problems of Chaos, which makes us beholden to their whims. While yes, Neablis isn't going to force us into working for someone utterly tyrannical, the point is still that we won't have the freedom to say no if they demand something and it's not something we want to do. I don't want that. So many 40K stories justify everything that happens by way of "If you don't toe the line, you will suffer for it because someone's always in a position to punish you for it."

I want to do our own thing, have all the tools we need to find solutions to our problems, and have a solid cast of characters so the story isn't just a lot of introspection interspersed with the occasional bout of ultraviolence under the banner of Making a Number Go Up. It's satisfying, yes, but I feel like the story could be more than that.

So, that's my pitch I guess. I won't throw a fit if BlueHelix's plan wins, as it seems like it is, I just feel like we could do better, and I don't really believe that there's as many "40K Fix Quests" as some people have claimed there are--most of those are either very small scale, or ultimately have to compromise repeatedly in order to accomplish anything at all." The ones that are more ambitious seem to fall apart before they really go anywhere.
