Okay, so if we do offer Gwayne a position in the city watch, then can we use this for later?

I mean, if we can have Rhaenyra develop a friendship with him while also developing feelings for Alicent, would it be less stressful to marry him at a later point?

I mean, I still don't want to have another Andrew Farman situation (and yes, I will keep repeating that because I hate and pity the guy), but it is a good opportunity to gain a strong ally.

Moreover, it will piss off Daemon even more because he would rather be dead than seeing the blood of Otto Hightower on the Iron Throne, making it more likely that he will marry Laena and try to usurp us... or maybe not. You can never know with him.

[X] Offer him a position at court so that he can stay and watch out for her.
-[X] Offer a Position in the city watch.

[X] Plan Do Both

This could be very useful actually. Reinforce our alliance with the Hightowers, get a little more favor with Otto for the coming talk, potentially position Gwayne to support Rhaenyra in her bid to become commander.

Well, I want to keep Gawyne around, but I don't have any problems swearing an Oath to protect Alicent on top of that...

I mean we were going to protect her with our life anyway without needing any oath, so for me it is basically a freebie...

-[X] Swear an Oath to protect Alicent.

So many people are thinking of politicking with the City Watch option. But this shouldn't be about politics for Rhaenyra. Romance and chivalry are what this version of her cares about most, and this choice is both.

Hey, I want to put Gawyne in the City Watch not because of politics, but because he is a good fellow that I would love to see more around King's Landing, and because Alicent would appreciate having his favorite brother around...

Actually, great point.

I do find the mental image of Rhaenyra being so adament that Alicent doesn't have these feelings for her, then immediately turning around to swear a binding oath of protection to her brother hilarious. The densest little Sapphic the world ever saw.

Might be best that people start looking towards anyone but Daemon

I'm not saying that everyone picking that option is doing it for political gains, but there's a well-observed tendency among SV questers to try to pick the most optimal choice for their character at all times, regardless of their established behavior or desires. I think we should stay the course and actually play the character we've made, rather than turning away from it the moment it doesn't suit our long-term interests (many of which Rhaenyra, not having read Fire and Blood or watched House of the Dragon, wouldn't even know about!).

I mean doing both should be possible and kino:

"I stand by my oath, and I give you permission by way of being in the Watch to strike me down if I err in it."

While I do think that Gwayne is one of our best marriage prospects, especially now that we know he's fine with Alicent and Rhaenyra being a pair, now is definitely not the time.

It is hilarious but our oath might get re-interpreted at a later date.

Come to think of it, what *did* happen with the gold cloaks that ran off with daemon after he ditched dragonstone? Did they just slink back to kings landing and start working again, or did he take them with him to fight in the stepstones or something?

That is a good question, alongside the other question of who is in charge right now.

Full on doing literally anything but actually talking about her feelings. Truly, the highest of sapphic vibes.

Well, as far as truth to our character goes, one of our Ambitions is to get on the Small Council, and the best route we've seen so far to fulfill that runs through getting a position in the Watch for ourselves and rising from there to Lady Commander. Getting an ally in the Watch facilitates that Ambition—and it's not like Gwayne's mere presence in the hierarchy would crowd us out. There is more than one command position available, surely.

I wonder if Gwayne knew Otto plan of marrying Alicent of to Viserys... Also no one on Alicent life lets her do her own decisions, true to Westeros but damm.
