Anything but trade goods, I would prefer books but I can change my vote.

[X] [ITHILMAR] Trade Goods

>EIC replaces Marienburg as a main contender for Elven trade
>Become the middleman for the copycats who want to sell ithilmar scraps like us, cashing out twice
>Take out a huge loan using the now inflated EIC stocks as collateral
>Visit Lothern with loadsamoney and leverage for securing further trade deals

Books are great, but "Fuck Marienburg over indirectly" is eternal :V

Btw @Boney Does bartering for Eonir books include Grey Lord stuff, or is it specifically just the Library of Mournings?

Sad that the books option got written in as something that undersells what we get - namely, a copy of nearly the entire library of mournings. You'd think we'd be getting much less than that based on the write-in itself.

Trade goods isn't the worst thing to lose to though, would definitely have been my second choice.

I'm also a member of the 'We Probably Have Enough Books' club. At this point I grit my teeth any time the meme pops up.

And for me, the frustration stems less from how many actions we have spent on books and more from the fact that it feels like any time we get a reward for completing a quest or story arc, people jump out of the woodwork to insist that we find some way to synthesize it into books we can toss into the Book Nexus, and we (myself included) have to spend time shouting (posting?) down that option so a meaningful boon we can use to change the world of the quest in a vastly more interesting way doesn't get blown on Dewey Decimal Number Go Up.

It's also vast understatement to say we don't choose it too often when the fucking Karak Eight Peaks Transcendental Boon (which we got for, among other things, engineering the death of an entire Waaagh and otherwise basically reversing the karmic momentum of the dwarven race) got used on building a library which we occasionally Make Number Go Up in.

I have to CBT myself away from reminding myself of that too often because I frankly get too upset - like, do you understand that we could have asked Belegar something on the level of 'helping secure a lasting human principality in the Borderlands'? It wouldn't have done it by itself and probably prompted a campaign to fully actualize, but still. It could have been used as a solid chunk towards literally redrawing the map.

But no. BOOK, amirite guys? Yuk yuk yuk.

OK so first off a confession, I did choose this post in part because the tone is got under my skin, but for the most part I chose it because it is a good sounding board for what that boon did and why books are valuable. In the change over from K8P to Laurelorn we had to deal with a sudden cut in resources. The loss of the Loremaster salary which was by then larger than the EIC payout and the loss of the book budget since we no longer worked for Belegar. The library fixed one of those problems, the slow expansion of the EIC with new trade routes is on its way to fixing the other. Both of these things are Numbers Going Up, that is how quests work if you strip it down far enough unless one is dealing with a purely narrative quest which this one is not.

The library is among other things our last meaingful link to the We, without it they would have faded from the story, it is emblematic of the sort of tolerance and multiculturalism that is emblematic to Mathilde's view of the world and yes it is a source of kowledge in the wizard quest. Personally I like growing the knowledge of the world, especially in arcane matters and preserving it, I like the link back to K8P and I like spider librarians.

...On a different note, and hopefully less controversial than the Ithilmar vote, what do you all think the external social interaction will be this turn?

Realistically, I'd say Eltharion checking in on the new waystones we made. Unrealistically, I'm gonna put my hands over my ears and continue muttering "spider-silk, spider-silk, spider-silk" as many times as I can get away with it.

I know I said 'less controversial line of discussion', but let me dream.

Something with Marienburg, maybe. We've been doing a lot of stuff that impacts them recently, and they've done relatively little about it. Sure, a lot isn't quite public yet, but states have state-level intelligence apparatus to gather rumours.

At some point some figure there will want to have a chat at least to see what we're about and if they can do anything for Mathilde that would get her to maybe slow her roll a little.

Elspeth von Draken. She recently got a DLC in Warhammer 3, she says "Verena" on the campaign map which intersects with our library, and she'd probably be on the panel to determine Mandred's fate. She also happens to be Mathilde's type.

If you've said it before than you must know - what lore? What questions do we have that they can answer? Or are you assuming it will answer some future question we may have?
Their writings from the times of the Old Ones are bound to be a motherlode of Deep Lore.
