For some reason I did 6x10 instead of 8x5 to arrive at how much CF we would need.

So there's room in the budget if we want to get something. Specifically 12 gallons of snake juice and 9 CF. Only things that comes to mind are anti dhar belts for Mandred and/or Eike, but I have this vague recollection that it has been suggested before and turned out to be a bad idea.

If the CF is burning a hole in your pocket, there's the option of asking Eike what form of familiar she'd want and paying to have one brought in.

On the one hand, this denies her the opportunity of stumbling on one herself. Or creating an artificial one herself if she's interested in that route.

On the other, it would mean that we'd be on-hand to guide her through some of the pitfalls of deepening the familiar bond, would give her a companion for her Journey and would potentially see her with another +1 Magic before she graduates, and would let us as readers get some fluffy scenes of Eike, her animal companion, and Wolf interacting.

When this has come up in the past the thread has been antipathetic to Mathilde meddling in this particular way. It's never actually been put forward to a purchase vote though, I think.

On spending AV/Dwarf Favour for runed items for others, the response is that they should earn their own favours. I expect Eike will have ample opportunity over her career. We also can't get an exact duplicate of our belt for her from Kragg, due to the Rule of Pride.

If I recall correctly, the short version is: we can't commission runic items for people, because runesmiths only give those out to people they personally trust, and if Mandred or Eike were sufficiently trusted, they'd be expected to spend their own DF to get their own runic items, rather than have it arranged by a third party.

Could we pay in AV to have work done on the penthouse to make it more suited to house WEB-MAT, or to create some external facilities for WEB-MAT seperate from the penthouse? Like guest rooms, serenity rooms, laboratories?

About the familiar for Eike, it's a cool idea and I don't think we are robbing her from discovering her own, AFAIK a lot of wizards don't ever get one. My main worry is that by getting one this early she will be at greater risk of familiar obsession.

I don't think we are going to have to worry a lot about College Favor in the near future given the fact that we'll be turning in the Orbs and AV paper soon which will get us a crazy amount of College Favor.

If it's the AV burning a hole in your pocket rather than the CF, there remains the option of paying to learn Arcane Khazalid. Though as this would take months it would be in a regular turn plan rather than a purchase turn, in the form of the
[ ] Receive training: specify who and what. (acquaintances may train you for free, or you can hire someone with money or favours)
action. We'd also have to swear several serious oaths not to pass on anything we learn from it to anyone but Eike (who would herself then have to swear the same oaths).

There's not been a great push to do this. The only benefits beyond worldbuilding would be
  • Maybe some direct insights into the KA Waystone network if we ever take that exploration action
  • Maybe some application to the Collegiate runework involved in turning a new staff, but we're not planning on ever doing that again unless the Staff of Mistery is destroyed
  • If we plan on reverse-engineering the Old One tongue. Which sounds cool, but would require us to learn several other close-descended languages such as Anoqeyan or High Nehekharan to cross reference the similarities. One of those vague "maybe sometime in a few decades when we run out of other research" plans.
  • ??? mystery box ??? outcomes that we can't predict ahead of time and can't be counted on to exist

For language learning my tier list is

1. Kislevite (seriously we murdered their tsar without speaking it)
2. High nehekharan (we got notes to study)
3. Anoquyen (?) (It's funky and I like it)

I think trying to reconstruct the old one language would be cool, and possibly lead into some deep lore, especially if we go hang out with the lizards.

But yeah, it's pretty low on the priority list.

It's hard to imagine worse than Stirpikes, Reik Eels, and Bog Octopi, let alone the interlopers from the Sea of Claws, but you don't doubt that the depths of the Black Water would be up to the challenge.
Add one more example to the pile of "Mathilde doesn't really know much about marine life", alongside her suspicions that whales are chaos beasts.

What does that mean? Is Eltharion sharing his body with a ghost? Isn't that worrying?

He did something similar last update. Talking with the dead is a valid use of Shyish, as long as the dead are willing.

Deliberately sinking a seaworthy ship is antithetical to the modern Cult of Manann. Marienburg's treaty with Ulthuan required them to cut loose the part of the Cult that venerated the sinking of ships and the violent death of sailors, which became the outlawed Cult of Stromfels. The High Priest of the Cult of Manann being involved in the deliberate and unjustified destruction of a ship underway and filled with passengers would be a religious crisis and could jeopardize the relationship between Marienburg and Ulthuan.

I'm trying to remember the different types of Hedgewise. Was there one in Stirland or Sylvania?

No, but every other province has a different flavour of them. Or had, in the case of Ostland.

You can pay in AV to get specific facilities built, but you can't wave them in the general direction of 'something suitable for WEB-MAT'. WEB-MAT is not a thing that passively happens, it's an organization that Mathilde runs and the things it does are entirely in the hands of the thread, not me. Having me figure out what facilities would be most suitable for whatever the thread might decide in the coming turns is a bit unfair while I'm shackled to the limitations of linear time.

The thing you value, more than anything, is gaining the maximum amount of BÖÖK. You want more BÖÖK. You need more BÖÖK. Seeing those numbers go up and those topic headings fill out is one of the only experiences that makes you feel anything anymore on this bitch of an Earth. If you don't get more BÖÖK, the shakes will start. You care not from whence the pages turn, only that they turn. BÖÖK.

Nothing needed.

Nothing needed. Powerstones are bought as part of the relevant action.

Going to not vote in the last category for now because someone might come up with an out-of-pocket proposal I like and want to support.

Seems good to me.

Look, there's no way we're using an entire KAU purchase slot on this, and I kind of doubt backfill would affect this when backfilling is about grabbing random stuff in a category from the Barak Varr booksellers, who wouldn't have access to rarer religious books.

Nehekhara and Ulthuan seem like good topics, but I expect the suggested Naval books will come with the corpus from the Aquila Academy. Getting Dwarf versions of the various topics we've got Imperial coverage for seems like good bang-for-buck

More on Ulric can only help if the Cult's politics do end up spilling out into a crisis near to Laurelorn. That's looking a lot less likely after the briefing we received, but it's still possible.

Though I'm curious if Eike and Egrimm did get some Dwarf/Runesmith favour for their parts in the Seviroscope, it's on them to spend it if they did.

[X] [COLLEGE] A specific but common animal suitable for being a familiar (Eike's choice, 5CF)
On reflection, I would like to see the scenes this would open up.

What I'm imagining is a small compound with 1-2 guest rooms, a meeting room and a 1-2 guest labratories/offices. Maybe a small kitchen and dinning area. On reflection most wizards would probably want their own offices/labratories so they can personalise them, so they probably buy or otherwise aquire them on their own, and providing housing for magisters/magister lords seems condescending. But some guest quarters and guest workspaces, as well as a meeting room that isn't Mathildes sitting room, could make it seem like more of an institution that stands on its own and doesn't just revolve around Mathilde, and be handy when someone new joins that haven't had the time to settle in yet.

This would be incredibly mundane to spend AV on though, unless we plaster all sorts of runes all over it.

[X] [LIBRARY] Library of Mournings (Asuryan, Ladrielle)

All right, hear me out; right now the highest possible value books we can get are the Eonir books on the Cytharai and Cadai, as they represent a wealth of information and insight into their culture that would normally be restricted in other cultures (and might become restricted in the future).

I propose we work our way through the most important remaining deities, being mathlann, Isha, Asuryan and Ladrielle, starting with the patrons of the two foremost houses.

I can't really think of dwarf-built facilities or runic additions that would benefit WEBMAT as a whole. Max is already plowing every bit of Dwarf Favour he earns into improving his forge. Dwarves don't have much to add to an enchanting workshop. The Gyrocarriage facilities are I presume already up to snuff. Everything else we've done with the gang has been off-campus.
