@Boney, would a Rider be affected by our Cloud of Confusion ?

No.

@Boney if we ended up catching a Handmaiden for another apparition spell, would we be able to give her something better than iron nails? Like, something that can get through steel armor?

Their 'iron' nails are made out of the same stuff as the Rider's sword and hooves. They possess the conceptual associations of iron, not the actual material properties of it.

I think a lot of people are assuming that summoning only one will be non-Battle Magic when that doesn't seem to be true. I honestly feel like that's leaving a lot of power on the table to take a huge gamble that it might be notably easier to cast. That seems...not great.
A one Rider spell may be Battle Magic, but even if so it will most likely be easier Battle Magic than a spell involving more Riders. A one Rider spell will also be developed right away, on an action on which we put the Gambler, so we'll be developing the spell with a higher bonus than a trio or lance spell (unless we commit another coin use to apparition binding on top of commiting more AP).

[X] [NUMBER] Trio
[X] [BEHAVIOUR] Bodyguard

The fact the red rider can spesifically find destructive magic on a large KM radar is interesting.

It means it has some way of spesifically tracking down that type of magic. There has been talks about ways to improve Mathilde's windsight, like with the pale and i wonder if this is one of those ways.

It is literally attached to her soul, so she can get a really close look on how exactly it's doing this. Which means Mathilde should have means of trying to replicate it.

Finding out how to track down one flavour of magic, is a start on how to start learning the other ways after all.

Granted, red rider doesn't really think, so this sort of instinctive windsight might only work for someone like Eike with instinctive windsight instead of visual like Mathilde. Which may restrict her in using same ways as Red rider

Adjusting my vote. Note that I think One+Charge is meh and I am just picking it since Duel lacks support and I don't vibe with Bodyguard.

I'd like to have a spell that summons a lance of knights that charge at and ruin someone's day, but it'd have to be a lance of knights. Dämmerlichtreiter is a singular existence, several of them at the same time wouldn't fit the aesthetics at all. Considering the possible sub-BM difficulty of that number, Bodyguard seems like behavior that'd fit it best.

Though, I must say, given the variety of Apparations and of the options we can stick to them, it feels like we could fill an entire spellbook with useful combinations. I suppose we'll have to be careful not to run out of the soul even if we find AP for it.

I'm really torn on the number... we came for a BM spell but a FC spell would also be really useful even if less of a game changer from Mathilde's perspective because a FC spell would be massively more accessible to the Grey College.

I really dont like the bodyguard option, I cant help but feel like choosing one of the flimsiest horse mounted form factors for this apparition last vote was a big mistake.
I am picking trio and lance because I think they would work better with charge, but I dont mind if a singular rider wins for the potential of getting a spell below battlemagic difficulty.

So my idea here is that either we want a shot at a fiendishly difficult spell that can keep Mathilde alive at no risk of miscast as well as keep ordinary grey magisters alive when shit hits the fan, or we want an alternative to Pendulum that also helps in duels (in a target poor environment, there's functuionally no difference between charge and duel) so that Mathilde can show off her puissance with a showstopper spell when she takes her shot at the Staff of Volans in a couple of years. The anti-spellcaster attributes of the Ritters should really help with that, I think.

The reason why I prefer Lance over Band is because the risk of it being a cataclysm spell is intolerable and the benefits are not worth it. The risk of One being low level battle magic is comparitively much more acceptable though it would be disappointing.

Boney do the difficulty estimates of the finalised spells account for the possibility that Mathilde rolls 1 or more nat 100's on designing the spell?

The next step was one that the papers from the Gold Order had seemed to have significant trouble describing. Magic flowing from one's soul to an effect in the world is the norm for a maintained spell, but transitioning it from that temporary stream to a more permanent bond is a difficult technique, not least of which because one has to rotate it around one's soul while doing so, as otherwise it will be located in the vertex of their soul that they habitually use for spellcasting. Retraining yourself to cast from a different edge of your soul is a long and tedious process. You also take care to make sure that its final resting place will be as far as possible from where Wolf's soul adjoins your own.
So there is a limit on the number of soul bonds a Wizard can maintain. And a stricter limit on the number they can have and still use magic for other things.
…I would bet money on the practical limit being 6 'slots', although it is potentially possible to fit multiple similar links in the same slot.

the structural integrity of your soul
It would be scientifically valuable to test whether that integrity is increased or decreased by arcane marks.
It would also be extremely dangerous and rather difficult to test that on yourself and ethically problematic to test on someone else.

that obedience will wear grooves in its being until it becomes its new nature.
Given what we know of local metaphysics this likely means that after sufficient time there may be naturally formed versions of summoned apparitions.

Directed is an utter waste as it means we are swapping one combatant for an interior combatant.
Instinctual just screams friendly fire risk.
Dual doesn't seem to have any significant use cases that Charge or Ambush couldn't also fill.
Ambush plays to the strength of the Rider in Red but isn't really what we want it for. Killing lone wizards is something Mathilde can do very well herself. Also doesn't fit the Dämmerlichtreiter theme particularly well.
Charge gives us a new tool as a fire and forget anti-unit weapon.
Bodyguard would be very useful as it makes Mathilde less likely to be overrun. However having it only able to attack when and where Mathilde does seems limiting.

All considerations must bow to AP hell. Particularly as we will want to codify the spell which costs its own action. One is all we can afford. Also sub-battle magic would be really nice.

widely useable, good good!

Will it? It'd be a spell of the highest difficulty bellow Battle Magic so only usable to the most powerful Magisters who also need to be strong enough to subjugate a Red Rider. Said people should be very few (I am not counting Battle Mages) and for sure know Battle Magic.

Meanwhile with 3, while a low level BM would be far more useful for Battle Mages and war.

My point here is that the amount of people who would be able to learn it but also didn't learn Battle Magic would be minimal while the lose of effectiveness of the spell for Battle Mages means they will actually use it far less than they would otherwise.

[X] [NUMBER] Trio
[X] [NUMBER] Lance

Id be fine with all of these honestly, both duel and charge would be very helpful.
