People were joking about turning off Skavenblight's Waystone energy by way of the mapping action, but... uh...

Article:
The Black Pillar of Commandments, also called the Pillar of Commandments or simply the Black Pillar, is a great pillar of black, obsidian-like stone made from pure Warpstone located in the Skaven Under-Empire's subterranean capital city of Skavenblight.

If you squint, this actually does kind of look like what you'd expect from Skaven leeching off of the Waystone Network with a nexus-analogue?

The problem with that line of reasoning can be summarized thus:

Do we think the Asur somehow did not notice the race of chaos eating sentient rat people with warrens under every city in the Old Wold, including Marianburg?

I do not think that is the case. The idea that they would not know how to turn off stones leading to a nexus that had been tainted is also kind of hard to swallow, so they must have chosen not to do it... for several thousand years. This is not a Vlag situation where the elves would have no way of knowing the stones were put to the use of Chaos, they have significant presence in Tilea. My guess for why the Asur have not turned off Skavenblight if such a thing can be done is that it would unite the underempire in rage and cause a rat apocalypse in Tilea and beyond.

Sounds like Tilea's problem :V

More seriously - that's a very valid point, but the coincidence is startling enough that I'm inclined to keep an eye out, regardless. If the Asur haven't actively checked for diversions, I could see a crafty increase in leeching over time going undetected, or being written off as general attrition elsewhere in the network. Whilst we think Caledor Dragontamer has a decent idea of what the network looks like in his living hell, we don't actually know how much information the Asur in general are getting.

The black stone is also from the horned rat if i recall correctly. We should assume since the skaven and an actual God is involved in that mess, that normal Asur stuff might not work as expected. Untill we know what the mad scientist people are doing, we should probaly not assume much about what exactly they are doing.

I get where you are coming from Skaven as individuals can be subtle, but this is a direct draw of magical power into their holy of holies. Neither the Horned Rat nor the industrial development of the Underempire is what one might call subtle or slow-growing.

The Vlag trap was straight from Slaanesh, literally from his realm, that did not matter when we turned the power off upstream because it was upstream. Making Waystones start up again at a distance is not in the cool-kit of the horned rat unless he wants to get into a wizard off with the greatest wizard who ever lived.

I'd assume they're too busy with The Druchii and Chaos to lead some sort of campaign into the old world to turn it off.

That and explaining to Tilea would could be awkward, they don't like telling humans about waystone things.

The Skaven are an issue, but compared to Norsca and Naggaroth they're very far from the usual concerns of the Asur.

Even the Orcs have threatened Ulthuan more.

The only place we've seen the Asur directly intervene is marienburg which was vital to the entire network, they haven't fixed sylvania or any other problems caused by damage to the network. So corrupted areas like that aren't something they have the resources to deal with.

I see no reason you couldn't just have 8 casts, or have uncasted Powerstones set up for the other 7/8ths.

Time and distance. We know that it's only the instant of conversion that allows the magic to adhere to the stones. Putting the bulk of a mould around any given stone will, I think, make the other stones too far away to pick up winds before they are winds.

I clearly said I wasn't even sure I wanted to do it this turn.

Also, can't do anything about? Are Magister Lords of the Grey order suddenly forbidden from acting outside the Empire?

My case was that the fact that it isn't actionable makes it more boring to me. Like, I have a hard time getting excited about dead ends.

Yours was just the easiest quote to pull from someone pushing the pro-mapping line.

And I'm quite sure that other countries do, in fact, have a problem with Lord magisters busting in on the empire's business and causing chaos. You don't allow gigantically powerful actors who are loyal to someone else to have the run of your territory, if you want it to stay your territory.

It took Mathilde, a human with only rote knowledge of the Waystone network a few days to turn off the flow to Vlag and most of that time we spent finding the damn rocks. I do not think Asur Archmages would require anymore than a boat ride and a flying mount to do the same if Skavenblight was indeed powered by the intact and still pure stones around it. Now mind the stones could not be pure and instead he come kind of skaven mockery but that seems oddly constructive of Skaven working above ground.

And you better be ready for a hell of a fight if the Skaven can pin it on you. So you either need an serious army to ensure it stays switched off, or a long-term presence to repeatedly switch it off in multiple places.

The Skaven are a great power. You can't just jog up to them with an archmage slap them and call it a day. They've opposed both Dwarven, Slann, and human forces at the same time. They aren't really some small time group.

The asur are generally safe by the fact that their donut is a floating donut, but to assume that the Asur could call skaven a non-trivial issue easily handled i think severely underesitmates them. Espesically, since messing with the horned God, which the waystone is, is how you get all the Skaven to focus on you.
So yes, maybe the Asur can just slither up there and turn it off, but that's kinda ignoring everything the Skaven would be doing in return.

I mean if you are the Asur in that position you can just blow up the stones or move them with the intent of repairing them later, not like Skaven can build Waystones from scratch to restore the chain. Tilea at the very least would still eat a Skaven apocalypse.

Not in the least, if you look up in the chain of posts my point was that the Skaven would probably blow up Tilea if not the Old World if this happened hence why the Asur probably have not done it centuries ago.

Have to admit, seeing some people this thread argue that any issues with waystones in places like Tilea or Estalia are their issue and not important to us or our place to intervene in, and that the iron orcs are Bretonnia's problem. While others are questioning why the Asur haven't intervened against Skavenblight, which doesn't really effect them, is kind of funny to me.

Marianburg is their client state, it has Skaven under it, not even going into the global effects of Skaven existing.

It's not a coincidence, as I've said multiple times Tylos having a nexus is more or less a geographical necessity. Look at the map, specifically at circles 23 to 26. That line has to go somewhere, and since leylines don't like going under mountains it's nigh-impossible that it didn't originally continue through Tylos to Tobaro and from there to Estalia. Possibly there's a branch that goes through Bretonnia - I think there's a mountain pass north of Miragliano, though I don't remember its name - but that would be in addition to a Tylos branch, because otherwise the western part of the Tilean network would be taking an implausibly long route to the Vortex for no reason. The real question is if the original leylines are still active or if the Tylos nexus has been shut off since Tylos died to wrapstone meteors, and if there are leylines going into it how big is the part of the network they're connected to.

Marianburg is their client state, it has Skaven under it, not even going into the global effects of Skaven existing.
Marienburg happens to have an important waystone and be a good source of some extra trade.

If the skaven tried to actually destroy it the Asur would intervene.
But they very much have other things occupying their attention.

Brettonia is potentially a vital ally if an everchosen is going to show up, and Tilea and Estalia are quite possibly vital for the old world's waystone network. The Iron orcs a faction of chaos worshipping orcs could become a massive threat if they spread.

People are still very happy to argue it's not our problem.

Current state of the vote tally. Riders is trailing by a single vote with codify in a moderate third place.

Apparition gang rise up! Help us claim our cool new soul minion!

Since we're posting our next turn Father plans, heres mine

- iron orcs
- forest of shadows nexus (which of the three do people think best to do?)
- Halethan tributaries in ostland
- waystone foundations with almost everyone
- either possible codification pt2 or liminal realm with hedgewise

As you can see, there's no room for branulhune, which is the other part why I like the double in codification and swords.
