Ahhhhh. So this is the big expense, and actually negotiating the SSR is a 5 rep action afterwards?
Ye. :V
Though, I'm a bit confused at the high Rep cost. Shouldn't it be pretty burnishing of our reputation if we successfully end the Sino-Soviet split? That's the kind of thing that would make our country look really fucking good if it works... which IS a big if, but y'know.
That is because you are calling in a lot of favors/giving them out, use bribes, schmooze, anf politic in general to get the USSR and China to cooperate again after the split, and because [???] Is drawing the attention of the higer ups in China.

But yeah, I do wonder what could happen if you manage to pull off a mending of relations... :thonk:
It sort of depends on interpretation I think? The way I took it is that that -3 CO is what we use to actually get this all rolling and that the 'opinion score' is going to be calculated based on the initial 5 CO. HC?
You use the 3 CO to get this thing done. They are being burnt while the Action happens, and the 2 CO won't factor into the outcome at all.

Through we already did one action into crop breeding so maybe this should change to 'Expand Crop Breeding Programs'?
Will do!

I do still remain confused by Reputation. From what I can tell there's a world where we heal the Sino-Soviet Split, marking ourselves as the greatest statesman in communist history... and therefore the elites are less sure of our rulership?

Unless actually doing that really juices things, as HeroCooky hints.

Oh, what we were asking for was the followup action.

Basically, does the 5-Rep follow up action suffer from the new CO being 2/10?

Oh, HC has been hinting that the juice is coming no matter what. :p

Reputation Explanation for the Mending:
1. Spend a lot of attention on unsure thing that looks like mostly foreigners will profit off of.
2. Sit at the table as two nations start to bicker to each other.
3. ???
4. Profit harder than an American Capitalist.

And the second action does not suffer/benefit from CO.

I think we can afford the 35 rep hit. Beefing up the military is going to bring that back, and we can do some further propaganda to go alongside it.

@CyberEnby You're still spending 10 actions on the Nuclear Program, which brings your total to 14 actions as well.

Getting the two big red powers in bed together again will also help reduce the chance that each can, separately, de-socialize and embrace oligarchic liberalism, which helps to preserve the viability of all manner of international leftism in the world.

After Sino-Soviet Rapprochement, our biggest diplomatic coup would be Sino-Indian Rapprochement. If we can get those two to bury the hatchet over their border disputes, it would put the majority of Earth's population in a leftist orbit. Maybe we can leverage all the infrastructure and institutional knowledge we're going to build up for Dragon Rail to dangle in front of them. China likes trains, but India is head over heels for them.

[X] Plan: Your Friend, The Atom
First time posting in this thread and I gotta say I am really liking where this is going. Honestly the Iwo Jima incident of 1974 and the discussions and ideas resulting from this is one of the funniest things I've read in quite a while.
