  • [X] Plan Who are you again? This time with feeling
-[X] Take out Molly's cell phone and start recording video, making sure to get a clear shot of their faces.
—[X] Subtly key in orders to Clippy to crosscheck all the information they give us that she can, and in general look into these officers.
-[X] Tell Harry to shut the hell up until a lawyer arrives, ask for McCoy's number.
-[X] Ask for each of them to properly show their badges instead of flashing them, so that you can see they're real and have a lawyer speak to them later. Make sure to get clear shots of all documents, and a picture of the license plate of their car.
-[X] Ask for a physical copy of the arrest warrant, or at least to see the one they have on them.
-[X] If at any point they become evasive threaten to call the police right then and there and have them sort it out.
—[X] if they keep evading attempt to call the police and claim some people saying they're feds are trying to arrest a friend of ours, but won't provide <insert whatever they're evasive on here>
-[X] Use excellency on the direct requests, and being convincing over the phone if we need to call the cops
-[X] If nothing in the above triggers violence, call Murphy, McCoy, and Micheal in that order to explain the situation. Work out legal support with the last two.
-[X] As soon as we have a private moment instruct Clippy to begin looking into the parts of the legal system related to this situation, and putting together cliff notes for us.
—[X] in general instruct her to ping us with a fake text containing useful information related to things people are saying around us, both for this and similar future situations.
-[X] Follow the car to wherever they're planning to hold Harry, and stay close enough that we're hard to shake
—[X] if we still have more than 4 essence, put a cyber devil in the car with instructions to protect Harry if they seem to threaten his life, or take him anywhere other than a law enforcement facility.
    [X]Plan Crowned Speaker to Managers
    -[X]Charisma + Intimidation(burn Excellency)
-[X]Crown of Eyes: 1 Essence per use.
--[X]Head Agent: Identify everyone in the chain of people giving him orders. If that chain has branches outside the FBI....
-[X]Key into phone instructions onehanded for Clippy to record everything, and crosscheck names, photos, badge numbers and car license numbers as the alleged officers show them to you.
-[X]Request proper identification/good look at badges, and copy of arrest warrant if available.
-[X]When he reaches into suit jacket and phone is visible, spend 1 Essence to cast Hollow Mind Possession on Head Agents phone. Burn 1 WP for autosux.
-[X]Tell Harry to shut up until his lawyer shows up.
-[X]Call Murphy first, then Dad for a lawyer.
    -[X]Tell Mouse to hold fort
-[X]Hollow Mind Possession on car of alleged agents for 1 Essence. Spend 1 WP for autosux.
-[X]Follow car to FBI building to prevent any detours or foulplay. No blacksites, no swapped cars, no shootings en route.
[X] Explain that Harry has been with you all day (Charisma+Empathy can use Excellency)
    -[X] Ask for arrest warrant.
--[X] Have Clippy call FBI and check their identity.
    ---[X] Call Murphy
[X] Plan Who are you again?
-[X] Take out Molly's cell phone and start recording video, making sure to get a clear shot of their faces.
-[X] Ask for each of them to properly show their badges instead of flashing them, so that you can see they're real and have a lawyer speak to them

[X] Explain that Harry has been with you all day (Charisma+Empathy can use Excellency)
[X]If they are fake(unreasonable) we can still choose violence!
[X] Excuse you?! Why are there three FBI agents here for a murder arrest? Where's the warrant and the police? Despite what cop dramas say, they can't just cowboy it up here, especially when he's not in the process of a crime!
    -[X] Call Murphy ASAP too.
[x] crown who is behind this frame job?

DoJ arent giving orders in the case of a murdered CPD detective whose only FBI link is his spouse being an agent.
Strictly local case of local personage.

If any link of this chain/network of command is outside the Chicago FBI, its automatically sus.
If there's anyone giving orders in this case outside Chicago, its sus until otherwise proven, even if they were in the FBI or DoJ.
Your question is a weird way of looking for this information though. Why not just ask who's responsible for his current orders, or why he has them?

Also, on empathy vs. intimidation, I'm not sure the latter is a good idea. Trying to intimidate the feds could just make them decide to slap us with consequences. We can probably roll high enough to be good in most regards, but rolling low could come with worse downsides than the alternative.

Not sure the risk is worth two dice.
I decided to leave it ambiguous because Im not sure if Illnois is currently a two party consent state in 2006, so them seeing us thumbing the phone could just as easily be text messaging.

We dont know what McCoy's number is. Im not even sure he has a phone number instead of a dropbpx.
And I dont necessarily think he's anywhere near where a message would reach him in a timely manner; there's a war on .
Assess before we decide this requires a Senior Council member.

The warrant does not have to be presented at arrest. I checked. Hence the lawyer.

The part that tickles me right now? If these are actual FBI agents with an FBI car out there, with FBI electronics, using HMP on it will give us access to encrypted FBI communication bands and the installed computer, assuming there's an installed computer like in police cars. If nothing else, the car can communciate with Clippy.
From what I can see online, they tried to set limits like that related to public officials, but mostly the cases didn't pop up till 2009.

In this particular case, in a private residence where we're a guest we have as much right to record as we want. No expectation of privacy, same way you don't get changed if the police show up on your security cameras.

I know we don't have McCoy's number, that's why I ask Dresden for it in part of my vote.

It's worth noting the senior council members have support staff. Harry might give us a personal line, but I'd sooner expect him to give an office number.

About the cyber devils; I've been assuming we can pre load them with commands, but is that the case? If we put them in their car and that guy's phone will they know to reach out to us for subtle instructions?

Because the orders might be at second or thirdhand.
I deliberately framed it in a way that would presumably show the chain along which it came.

Intimidation is not necessarily criminal. Does not require threats.
A highpowered lawyer will intimidate the hell out of a patrol cop. Dads intimidate their daughter's first boyfriend . An intense young woman intimidating the hell out of normal people is something people pull by sheer force of will.

And there are no legal consequences in play for being a Karen.
If nonlegal consequences are in play, we can play that game harder and better than they can.

Leaving it ambiguous doesnt hurt.

The Senior Council as a whole, and the Merlin have support staff.
Some others have personal apprentices and followers. McCoy does not. As the Blackstaff, he couldnt afford it, and when Dresden lived on his farm, he didnt mention any other mages around.

And OOC, we know there's a Black Council member in the Senior Council's support staff, which is good reason to avoid funneling info there on general principles even if McCoy had an office number.
Also note that there's a strong faction of people in the White Council who dont actually like Dresden. Keep that in mind.

FBI car with FBI radios and computers.
We have a cellphone, which is basically a fancy radio. I expect Clippy can talk to a possessed law enforcement vehicle just fine from the other end of the country.

no disagreements not even particularly important right now there was also some speculation some members of white council are just power hungry, and/or incompetent, also you know patsies. Honestly I assume all of those things are true also black council and we're also pretty much sure in and out of universe black council has different factions with different goals and groups.

They can issue consequences and then hide behind legal protection, we can't. I wouldn't say we're on even ground if they are real agents and choose to play dirty.

Fair enough point on intimidation; though I'd point out that the response to it isn't uniform. Power tripping assholes who know you don't have any power but are intimidated by you for personal reasons can and do abuse their authority to be petty jackasses.

Harry just turned in a nazi sorcerer to the council, and has enough standing to make them buy his story by default. They also need everyone they can get for the war, so they don't have time to play stupid games. The council isn't that stupid.

The black council can try to play games, but I doubt it's worth their time here. They don't want the white council to lose, they want to use it for things. They're also our best option because we have no cash and this isn't the white god's op. Father Forthill is a great guy, but I don't think he's exactly a top tier criminal defense attorney.

Maybe they try some blackmail or something later, but we can burn that bridge when we come to it.

As to the specifics of the number; you're not wrong, but I expect that if Harry gives us anything at all it'll be a line that can get us to someone on the council who can get to him. That's all the in we need to get him legal help.

On the car, this is all assuming they brought a fancy tech's up vehicle. It's suspicious, but not impossible, for them to be driving something lower profile. Though I suppose the devil could use the regular car radio if it had to.

My main concern was that it wouldn't know who or what to listen for, but I suppose if they were that dumb out of the box the charm would only be useful if we were standing next to the target.

Leaving it ambiguous does sort of hurt though. Putting them on camera forced them to respond to being on record. If they're fakes or dirty cops then they can't afford to allow us to keep the video. It's the inciting incident that turns our response into self defense and backs it up with proof.

In legal terms we should be in the clear to take video inside a private residence like this, so if they're legit then it forces them to be on their best behavior.

You're talking all the risk, but passing on most of the benefits. If the only goal is information, you could just as easily use the demons in their phones for it and skip waving Molly's around.

God I hope their fake cause if not this is gonna take a lot of time to fix for us which you know may as well be a victory of the enemy forcing us to deal with bureaucracy truly their evil knows no bounds.

If it is actually the government somehow we should get that maggot bureaucracy charm and see how long it takes for the American government to implode.

1)No they cant. There's fuckall a couple of Feds can legally do to a seventeen year old whose only juvenile criminal record is for misdemeanor drug possession. The Chicago PD has the manpower and ground knowledge to play fuck fuck games with locals. A Fed cant just hang out outside your block and search you at will.

And it wouldnt even occur to a good Fed to try.

2)Last October Harry Dresden stopped the Darkhallow, prevented Chicago from being eaten, and a necromantic god hostile to the White Council being raised in its ruins. He also killed the Capriocorpus, a bodyjumping necromancer who was at least two hundred years old and formerly a White Council wizard.

That hasnt made him any more popular among the wizards who already disliked him.
Uncovering the Black Council traitor didnt make him any more popular among those who didnt already like him either.
A nazi sorcerer of Gorfel's strength is eh. At best.

Dont overestimate Gorfel's significance. We already wrung him for the important information.

3)Harry Dresden is Starborn, and grandson of a Senior Council member. Its very much worth their time.
The Black Council DO want the White Council to lose, make no mistake about it. They would happily subvert it if they could, but thats a stretch goal. Destruction is the primary aim.

4)Dad can and will front cash for a criminal lawyer immediately, Harry potentially has financial savings, and even if he didnt, Thomas Raith his brother has resources of his own. Dude owns a boat on the Great Lakes; he's not hurting for money.
The only reason Molly is not calling Thomas right now is because she doesnt know Thomas is more than just an occasional ally.

Assuming this is actually real, what he needs is a lawyer to navigate the law while we fix this.
And as a PI in good standing for several years in Chicago, he has a rolodex of useful legal contacts, not just the good Father.
This is ultimately not going to be settled in a court of law anyway.

5)If they are Feds, its a modern vehicle, with a computer, and electronics.
The Feds dont operate any other way.

6)I dont see what thats supposed to achieve though.
If they are impostors, name, photo and badge will tell us this via Clippy and we can skip to the head bashing without any warning; QM confirmed we can check badge numbers online.

If they are dirty or brainwashed cops trying to disappear Dresden?
The very fact Molly is a witness means they already have to kill her before leaving, since her cellphone records will place her at Dresden's apartment when she says Larry, Moe and Curly took him away.

And if they're just bogstandard agents playing dirty tricks, seeing her following them to the lockup prevents any detours.

7)To the best of my understanding, you dont need to perfectly orient the phone to record shit happening in its vicinity.
Because cyberdevil.

I agree with all this except the black council goals from all we've seen black council is not one uniform group and that probably means multiple goals and even groups also patsies. Not saying your wrong just nothing conclusive has been shown and a lot of answers won't be gotten until the apocalyptic trio also some of them are probably nemesis infected.

Edit: Also even those who want to destroy the council likely have goals for the use of said council before destroying it maybe even integral goals which require a council.

The moving force behind the Black Council is Nemesis.
For Nemesis, the White Council produces the Gatekeeper, who helps the Winter Court hold the Outer Gates.
And Starborn wizards are a unique threat as well.

So yeah, they want the White Council dead. Stone cold dead.
Individual wizards might be useful, the vast bulk of them along with the organization are not.

black council is a vague shadowy group there are no exact word of gods on it(well okay there are not about this though) dude. Some are definitely nemesis infected their exact goals are not known though. Also there are definitely those not directly infected on their side and others with different goals its not one group and never has been this has been made clear. Though yes nemesis is definitely manipulating things and is some kind of puppet master.

REASONS
Current Essence levels: 7/12
Current WP: 9/9
Burn 4 Essence: 1 on Charisma + Intimidation Excellency, 1 on Crown of Eyes, and 2 on Hollow Mind Possession.
Burn 2WP for one success on two uses of HMP.
Spending 4 Essence makes us glow.
We don't want to have a halo of hellfire and all-seeing eyes right now.

If they attack then we're free to beat the shit out of them, but if they're legit even if the warrant isn't we need other witnesses if we don't want to get burned.
changing my vote to Plan Who are you again? this time with feeling.
I feel that this is a set up and they fake FBI agents rather then corrupt and i agree dresden should know most of these stuff.
