Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Mmm, it's sort of like the difference between learning about the founding of the empire, or the fall of the Hui I think?

They're both informative about where people are coming from, but one is much more focused on contemporary conflicts.

[ ] Tale of the Gates

I am interested about the gates because I feel like we did hear something about the gates in the far south but never learned more. Or I might be missremembering something.

Still Iron king sound a bit transient.

Also Mortarium isn't marked, so 2 hours?

[ ] Tale of the Iron King

This sounds like the best way to uncover the "saboteur" in the White Sky's side of things at the summit.
Though lore on the star beasts is more tham tempting.

"But Honored grandmother, there is a difference in sacrifice given, and sacrifice imposed."

I think this is related to the vote.

The Gate is sacrifice freely given to keep back the night.

The Iron King is sacrifice imposed on people to fuel ambition

While gate probably will give us lore and history and creation myth of the ice people, iron king should give us the how to do better in the summit, and Grydja adviced us to do so as well and i see no reason not to heed it.

Well I really loved that update! So much fun!

"Greedy," Grydja sniffed. "Though that shows your line runs true, whatever foolishness that stray snowflake got up to. You've entertained this lonely old woman, so I suppose you can have a tale. But only one, greedy little poppet, else I seek a price."
She knows of Zeqing and thinks her a mischievous child which is hilarious. Grydja stronk.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna vote yet. Both sound very cool.

I also agree with that the tale of the Iron King would be harder to uncover than the tale of Gates, but there's a chance that, like with the ES and Tsu, their history is full of absurdities compared to the real truth, so hearing from the source sounds better imo.

But then the Tale of the Iron King also sounds like good prep for the summit and Grandpa Nightmare, since Dreaming Songstress is about the engine that drives mankind.

And then both of them work with Xuan Shi. Like I said earlier, this feels like it's connected to the difference between sacrifice given and sacrifice earned. The Gates fits the first one, and tells him about the White Sky in general, which can help convince him to join us.

The second one is about sacrifice forced onto others to help the Iron King, and gives a view into the current WS politics, which can also help convince Shi to help us because he refutes Grumpy Sword.

One thing to keep in mind though is that this choice is related to Shi and his insights in Narrative. Which option fits Narrative? Both do. Which option fits Shi and his current plot with Narrative? Both fit him to some degree, but which fits best? I'm not too sure about that.

Edit: I would like to note that Gates being foundational can *also* help with the summit. Foundational tales can give a lot of insight into a polity, culture, and how it's advanced over the years, like with Tsu bringing people together (the ES is now fractured), the Peaks with the Sage Emperor and dragons (no explanation needed), the Bai (no explanation needed) and the Zheng (no explanation needed)

Tale of the Iron King seems to be more useful in the short term. We have time to learn their culture directly from them later, although I do wonder what the cost to hear both would be

Gates might be easier info to get, but the reliability of said information will be suspect since we don't have any idea as to how much of their past they lost since the creation of the Gates. The story could very well have turned into a tall tale by now.

On the Iron King, sure we'll likely never get an easy or accurate recount of it, but we don't really need much of the details for that story. The general strokes of it seems like it'll be perfectly fine and usable data for whatever we do diplomatically. So a 'totally accurate' retelling might not be as necessary as what the Gates actually are/do/meant to do.

Think I'm going to vote for Gates since I want to know how this nation started since you can tell alot about a nation by its founding myth like the Sage Emperor's still felt presence in the Empire's culture even thousands of years later.

I know that the Iron King might seem more practical in some ways but I am an absolute sucker for lore, myths and legends on which the foundation of nations are built. Especially by Yrsillar, that's one of the things he does so well.
I've wanted to know about the Polar Gates, what the evil aurora/ star thing in the sky is above the Ice Nation for a while...I want to knowwwww.

Because comprehension of the Foundation the other nation rests upon, and how that influences their view of things will be rather important for working toward a summit that lays a path that permits factions within both nations to thread the needle maintain peace.

Furthermore this might provide some insight into the nature of LQ having a instinctive "something terrible is happening" reaction when looking at the aurora australis during the expedition.

That's true, but consider if it was the other way around: the White Sky learning about the Sage Emperor wouldn't tell them about Ogodei or the Hui, the scars of which are still raw in the Emerald Seas, and thus of much greater importance to understanding their immediate counter part.
