1) It's a straight line east to west from Bechafen to Marienburg via Talabheim.
2) Drakenhof is NOT south of Mordheim, as I previously assumed. What is south, however, is the Haunted Hills and if you travel further south you get Karak Varn AKA the Skaven hold of Cragmere.

Drakenhof seems to be directlys south of Bechafen too, and possibly east of Nuln.
(May depend on map used)

So... seeing as there is little doubt how the vote is going to come out I am curious to know what you guys think we should do once we have Eike on as an apprentice, specifically if we tell her that two other LMs had an interest in taking her on? I mean on one hand it might give her a big head, but from what I recall too much confidence was never her issue, more the reverse.

I doubt that'll be something we vote on, honestly. Mathilde might mention it, but it's not important enough to leave it up to the thread.

"Once tries to wrestle poorly-understood forces into submission for personal gain
This is probably a typo right?
"One tries to wrestle"

known to most of Altdorf as Tomas Muller, a man earning a good name in the Guild of Stevedores for the prison sentence he's supposedly serving in Mundsen Keep for a crime committed by their Guildmaster.
@Boney I'm a little confused about this detail on the Dean. He's serving prison sentence on behalf of someone else's crime? Is that actually a thing? perhaps he allowed himself to be a scapegoat for the Guildmaster and gain connections from the blackmail?

Fun update, I'm really excited to see how the fief is doing next and if there are any upgrades we can do there.

For the vote, seems like Mathilde is a shoe in and having an apprentice will be fun to manage. I'm throwing a vote to the bursar though as I'd like to avoid turning Eike into a carbon copy of Mathilde and it'd be cool to see the synergy of EIC head + bursar. What heights could she achieve in that realm not only for EIC and Grey College but possibly the empire in terms of trade? Sounds intriguing to read about. Honestly fine with either option though.

Also can only Lord/Lady Magisters be Masters? Or is Eike really that talented? Or is it the EIC connection?

She just seems to be really talented, though part of it might be that she is the heiress to the EIC.

You need to be Magister or above. Regimand was our master. This is an extremely rare occurence, the result of a confluence of factors of Eike being a good student, resonating well with Ulgu, being bright and inquisitive and an ideal student, and the fact that she is set to inherit one of the biggest rising stars in the Imperial Trading Market. And there is her connection to Mathilde. Wilhelmine's interests directly align with Eike's so she's a given. Starke is a bit odd because it's a bit of a mystery why he would stake a claim on someone that other LMs would have an interest in. Perhaps he feels a Sigmarite bend would be beneficial to the EIC, and this is his best chance to do it. Or maybe he just thinks she's that exceptional.

Yep, that's totally a thing. Someone important, and more importantly wealthy, gets charged with a crime, and they pay someone else to actually go to jail and do the sentence. It's technically a form of corruption, and as such is probably illegal in the Warhammer world (definitely illegal in our world, but that doesn't stop people from trying). One reason the Grey College is involved, I assume, is so they have leverage over the Guild of Stevedores, who are the people responsible for loading and unloading boats at the docks.

The Guild of Stevedores is the official Dockworkers guild, known colloquially as the Wharf-Rats. The other main players in the Altdorf dock-scene are the Hooks and the Fish, who are docker gangs that function as unofficial guilds.

The three groups have been in a permanent feud state ever since the Hooks and Fish formed from all the waves of refugees that came to Altdorf during the Vampire Wars.

(The main drawback to joining the Guild of Stevedores compared to the rest is that they have higher standards and all applicants need to be official citizens of Altdorf, which can be difficult for some people to achieve)

The Guild of Stevedores, otherwise known as the Wharf Rats, are one of the most powerful gangs in Altdorf, and they dominate the most prosperous port in the city known as the "Reiksport". Among other things, it's the only dock that can handle the large ships of the Imperial Navy, and the biggest Merchant barges floating down the Reik from Marienburg. They are an official Guild of course, but they are known to dabble in the illegal and unsavory in their fight against the Hooks and Fish, who are the two major Dock Gangs in Altdorf that rival them. One rules the Docklands (Hooks) and the other rules the Old Docks (Fish). The Fish are smugglers and the Hook are a group of thugs and heavy muscle who use bribery and blackmail and have Watchmen in their ranks.

The only people who can become Wharf Rats are people with official citizenship status, which is a difficult thing to acquire, so most immigrants and those who've had a rough lot in life and want to work the docks end up in the gangs, and the Wharf Rats attempt to enforce their monopoly but the most they've managed to do is keep the Gangs out of the Reiksport.

You know it does say interesting things that the position of Dean is taken up by someone who has to pretend to be in a work gang. Don't get me wrong I think it's great that they can get work out of a magister who would otherwise just be stuck in the colleges for safety... but the fact they are doing it like that and not setting up the person who would be best at education for the job underlines just how few Greys there are. And they are one of the more top heavy colleges so they have proportionally more magisters.

To be fair, we don't really know his qualifications aside from the fact that he works as a Dockworker. His description was pretty light on achievements or specialties, so maybe he is the best choice for the job. I can't really say that being a Dockworker means he's not that great at Academia.

Lots of dull, uncomplicated work could be a good place for him to let his mind wander, and ponder the mysteries of Ulgu. Depends on how good he is at multitasking.

True, but it would be a hell of a coincidence that the person who happened to need to hide in the colleges was the best at education in the whole Grey College. I think that skill is rarer than pure academic skill.

On the other hand he could have also burned his persona because he knew he had he dean position lined up and wanted to take it

The real reason for the work gang ploy is probably as a means of spot checking for people more than naturally shifty and stealthy in such a way that he crosses the path of as many as possible. So technically within the remit of the Dean if admissions are part of his responsibilities.

Also as an ear to the ground so that totally honest human-smuggler, yes-yes doesn't sneak suspicious green glowing barrels under the piers.
