I'd note for the Flute Craftsman, its likely more about the style than the power of the instrument. Power's more to do with the reagent used(and odds are we're going to try to Adventure up a Cyan grade reagent at least), but a Meng style flute is going to be dramatically different from a Cai style flute for instance.

These two feel like they have the most story content behind them, while the crafter option's comparatively more of a one-and done bonus (since we'll have some sort of Moon Quest for the flute either way). They're relevant and likely to be good, too.

You guys, when are we gonna get access to the services of a Master Craftsman in the Violet Realm?
The Meng specialize in music cultivation, its been made clear. I doubt there are many craftsmen outside that clan that are as good and high level as that. Just saying.

One thing I will throw out there, regarding the Geomancy lessons - I feel like going ourselves would be a waste? Because Zhengui will absolutely take them, and I feel like spending our incredibly limited time and narrative space learning to be somewhat worse at a support skill than our son is going to be anyway is wasteful.

The power of family comes from not needing to do everything ourselves, so I'm happy to leave the theory to Zhengui. Working together with our precious boy on some Liminal Carver/ Meng Geomancy collaborative projects should suffice for showing off Cool Geomancy Shit anyway.

Fuck, I'm conflicted.

I'm sympathetic to Abeo's argument though that the Flute Crafting issue is a bit too much of a black box when we're already overloaded with plot arcs, while the Writings can help trim down PROJECT HELL and give us more direction in our cultivation going forward.

But really fucking cool magic flute is a strong, strong draw.

Any chance you can help unveil the Mystery Box a bit @yrsillar ? Because there is a point in that "If we're getting the flute anyway, what difference does it make between getting one made by a Grandmaster and whatever we get from our quest?" If it's a benefit that'll only manifest thirty, fourty years later in universe, then it's hard to compete with stuff that can help reduce the pressure of PROJECT HELL and empower our freestyle Art development further.

There's a limit on how much we can get out of a higher realm making our stuff, so I'm not that interested in having the Meng make it? Like, theoretically it could last for longer, but we have not gone a year without breaking our flute since we started cultivating, so the possibility of it surviving to the point where we get to a high enough realm to make proper use of it seems small.

The geomancy is a definite pick since we need to have more stuff to bond with Zhengui over, and the music just seems the most interesting to read about.

Edit: The flutes liable to break for narrative reasons. It's the most important piece of Ling Qis standard setup that doesn't have a brain, so if yrillisar wants to show that some events crippling but doesn't want permanent consequences, the flute is an easy choice to pick. this might change once our fief gets set up, since that would enable harm to our property, but the flute is still the easy target in any physical fight.
