[X] Plan Redshirt v2 with Divine AV

Frankly I think the AV action would be better replaced with two WEB-MAT actions, in the interests of efficiency & in light of its lack of immediate urgency, but I'm aware people have Opinions on it so I'm fine with compromising there. Otherwise this all looks good.

I mean not doing any intensive research in the first 6 months, of which we spend a lot of time getting to know the lay of the land is more likely to make us look politically canny. Not exactly big researcher energy, but not slacking off either given that we are working on the place and we will hopefully have a dwarf to show off soon.

I'm not expecting real research to happen for quite some time.

Setting up the facilities from the get go could make us look a bit more proactive/energetic though (not sure how elves consider time but we can't go too far wrong with setting things up from the start whilst leaving important bits for later could make us look tardy).

[X] Plan Putting Down Roots
[x] Plan Windherding: Crawl now, Run next turn
TBH I care about windherding less than I care about AV - the former feels mostly like a solution in desperate search of a problem, whereas the latter is something I'm legitimately into but just want to do a bit later - so this is not a great pitch for me. At least not unless we have some reason for recruiting Bann outside of "enchanter for windherding enchantments with."

Windherding allows the creation of items and effects that are otherwise impossible - things like the Eye of Gazul - in addition to being absolutely necessary to waystones (which handle all 8 winds at once) unless we're willing to rely on always having high-magic-using elves available. It makes humanity less reliant on the, historically very unreliable, involvement of elves.

Outside of windherding, Hugo Bann is someone we know can work on enchanting megaprojects - because he's done so - and thus useful to have around for future waystone work. And he means we have an available Bright magister for WEB-MAT, working towards the eventual goal of having all the winds available to it (given its goal of intercollegiate co-operation). Oh, and he's part of the Bright Magic Staff-turning tradition which descends from the crafter of the Staff of Volans, meaning he can likely offer better turned staves than anyone else available.

If 600 is faux-luxury than 300 is a hole in the ground. I would rather come off as tacky and cheap than an utter savage

But 300GC isn't a hole in the ground; Boney has stated that 300GC would allow us to furnish the project headquarters up to a similar standard of luxury and comfort as Mathilde's penthouse in K8P, and I don't think anyone could accuse Matihlde of being an "utter savage" based upon her current living accommodations.

I am absolutely baffled as to where this concern that there might be a reputational malus among the elven nobility if we fail to spend too much money came from, especially when 300GC was listed as the highest quality threashold in the vote itself.

What is the Divine AV action hoping to accomplish? When I've discussed it before I was told I was overly optimistic for thinking it might be possible to boost the Coin, and overall my spirits have been rather dampened for it by an utter lack of "this might be the positive result" so what's the hoped-for outcome that's made it so popular at the moment?

Is it purely a curiosity thing, or is there some practical application that people have in mind?

The post I was replying posited that the elves would see 600 as faux affluence by their standards. I replied by saying if that is the case then 300 would be by those same standards a hole in the ground.

[X] Plan Redshirt v2 with Windherding
[X] Plan Putting Down Roots
[X] Plan WEB-MAT & Culture

Looking for a non-AV plan, I really like Plan Redshirt v2 with Windherding because of the Egrimm action. While Mathilde knows Johann and Max very well, we haven't done much in a workplace environment with Egrimm, and I think the experience of Windherding will be an excellent way to build some rapport with him. Both technically, in discussing the mechanics of the spells, and personally, in discussing the perspective that Egrimm casts with. I think getting some early work in now will pay off very nicely once the Waystone Project becomes more substantial.

Main thing that interests me is that it seems like it will shed more light on the actual nature of AV and divine energy than the other options. For outcomes I think a best case would be it directly empowering a god in the same way that stealing from mork empowered Ranald, if that's the case I'd suggest we dump a few gallons into those bogs Kashmir thinks hold gods to try and empower them. The other possible outcomes which I think are more likely would be creating a bunch of ambient divine energy a priest can then channel into miracles creating a bunch of divine energy a god can then shape into miracles, no priest required or just nothing.

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better.

BTW does anyone have any thoughts on a priest we could recruit for WEB-MAT ?After all, without access to a priest we literally can't test what a priest can do with it; and I'm not sure what priests we can easily access at the moment.

We could try for Heideck I suppose, but a Ranaldite joining up would be unusual. I feel like if we're going to do the divine AV experiment it would be good to have access to more divinity than just 1) some shrines and 2) the coin (technically we also have the Eye of Gazul I suppose, but that runs into the issue of it being so many things combined). Maybe Kasmir could be convinced? He's been in Sylvania alongside Battle Wizards quite a bit.

Did we recruit a priest for our K8P shrine?

...can you clarify for me what exactly you're expecting to use windherding for with respect to Waystones? I'm getting the impression we may have fundamentally different understandings of what goals can reasonably be achieved by this project.

[X] Plan Redshirt v2 with Divine AV with nice living space

This has most of what I want, with a more-reasonable expenditure on furnishing. Because 600gc on creature comforts is a ludicrous overshoot IMO.

And because I'm stubborn, I'll still approval vote for my plan too.

[X] Plan Set Up, Build Knowledge, and Fading Papers
-[X] MAX: Go through every library of the Colleges you can access for any scrap of information about Waystones. (NEW)
-[X] JOHANN: Have Johann spend time getting to know Kadoh, who has expressed an interest in meeting the 'fist metal-Mage'.
-[X] MAX: Receive dictation: specify which. Must be taken with a 'dictate' action. (free WEB-MAT AP)
--[X] Observations of Karag Dum and its unusual guardian (FADING)
--[X] Observations on the Chaos Wastes in the western Great Steppes (FADING)
-[X] Attempt to bring a Karak's Runesmiths into the Waystone Project (specify which): Karak Azul
--[X] The Gambler
-[X] Personally scrutinize a Waystone as thoroughly as you possibly can
-[X] Dictate papers: select which two, must be taken with Max's 'receive dictation'.
-[X] OVERWORK: Furnish the living spaces of the Waystone Project HQ (specify how much: 100gc for adequate, 200gc for comfortable, 300gc+ for nice (no cap on how much can be spent, because Elves)): 400 gc
-[X] SERENITY: Observations on the Windfall north of the Dark Lands (FADING)
-[X] EIC: Have a blackpowder factory built in Wurtbad.

As originally explained, the rationale is that we should examine a Waystone thoroughly and also read up on all "common" knowledge on Waystones, because if you want to impress people as being worthy of having their special secrets shared with you then you really ought to be able to demonstrate you've done your homework first. And I want to knock out all of our Expedition-specific magical papers before they're Faded to dodge the malus and to make a big academic splash before we recruit Orders next turn.

We could try to recruit an Ulrican (either from the Ar-Ulric or the Winter Wolves), and I have no idea what Kasimir is doing these days, but he's potentially an option.
