My main gripe is that it isn't really time sensitive. There are options much more immediately interesting to me compared to Waystones. Like, yes we can research waystones, but we can also do one of the Empire options, go to Nagarythe after finishing that, and then come back and do the Waystones later.

That makes sense. I also would not vote for "administration and project management" for 15-20 turns. The thing is, I don't think that's what the Waystones project will entail:Personally that it feels like we'd be more an administrator/project leader than anything else, to compare it to the Bodyguard option for example:
We wouldn't be fighting Skaven in Wisseland, instead, we'd be searching for funding. We won't be fighting Vampires in Silvania, we'd be trying to bring Dwarfs and Elves to work on the project. And when we finally get to the investigation part it wouldn't be Mathilde doing the research, it'd be the actual experts she's brought up, instead, she'd be solving the fights between Drawfs and Elves that surely will pop up.
Besides this, it's the fact that the waystone project will probably last for a very long time, and I really don't like the idea of being an administrator (to be clear I wouldn't mind being one for a few turns) for 15-20 turns.
This reads to me as "the start of the project will be a combination of convincing interesting people to work on this project and playing Indiana Jones to get access to books and lore, and then the actual research starts." I disagree that Mathilde wouldn't be doing the research herself: there aren't really "actual experts," there are a lot of different people with scattered bits of information, and we do have skills of our own that make us a top-tier researcher and not just a manager (e.g. our Windsight). It's definitely a collaborative project, and if that turns you off it turns you off, but I don't think assembling the Waystone Superfriends is going to be boring, and I really don't think what comes after that is going to be primarily administrative for 15-20 turns. That would probably be very boring for Boney to write, if nothing else!Last, but hopefully not least, are the possible human contributions to the project. Teclis did not reveal much of the workings of the Waystones to the Colleges, but what he did reveal lays a foundation, and Teclis is not the only source of mystical secrets in the world. You know from Panoramia that the Jade Order knows more of their workings than what Teclis said, and you wouldn't be surprised if any of the others knew more than they let on, including your own. Each of them come from mystical lineages, some very ancient indeed, and though the Waystones themselves are of Elven manufacture, many are supported by Henge networks of apparently human make. Someone had to have made them, and their descendants may still exist among the Colleges or the Cults or both. And there's always the many libraries of the Old World and beyond, and the many arms you'd have to twist to get access to the most interesting.
The more you think about it, the more it seems like the Waystone project is going to be less about pure research and more about getting all the extant information in one place and getting as many relevant organizations on board as possible, at least at first. There's no chance you'd be able to reverse-engineer the world-spanning masterpiece of the Elves and Dwarves at their heights from scratch - older and wiser than you have tried and failed. The same would likely apply to any given researcher from the Eonir or the Karaz Ankor. But together you might succeed where individually you would all fail.
I mean, almost none of the projects do except Loremaster-at-Large -- all other projects necessitate a change of cast focus. For the same reason people head to business socials even though their chance of actually enjoying the outing is near zero. Established relationships with people is important in any sort of politics or business relationship. Heck maybe she could find someone worth inviting out to golf so they can discussbusinessresearch.

There is in fact, no evidence for this.
Heidi's words on the subject was that we'd be doing favours for the RIGHT people and having discussions with the RIGHT people.
And this while explicitly unbound by Grey Order rules.
The implication being that we'd NEED to be outside of the Grey Order rules to do what she wants, and that we wouldn't do favours for the wrong people.

First off, no Heidi will not be able to decide on what Mathilde does. Voters will specify details on what the job entails and Heidi will have to adapt to our concessions.That's why it's being taken as a given that an adult Mandred will be able to inherit the throne, because him still being a child is basically the only thing that can counter all the advantages of his father being Emperor. Mathilde being added to the equation is is an expression of the exact same powers the Emperor has always had.

I personally think a lot of the Post- Waaagh story has lacked that opponent(s) factor, The Trip had a bit of a 'count down' thing, but it was not the same: we were not worried that the clock would send out a surprise Waagh like the orc's or send assassin one turn before we were ready like the Skaven.
Ya, it gives me mini heart attacks, but that's why it's so fun.
