Time to halp!

[X][Naru] Feed

... I mean, in a way it's helping out, right? We saw the other Youma get a huge power boost from feeding, and it seems like that's just what the doctor ordered for Naru right now (I'm aware this might not be the best option overall, but just too interesting not to try out. If nothing else, it should at least give Usagi a better idea IC of something being up with Naru).

[x] [Naru] Help

I don't trust the, ahem, invisitext options precisely because not five minutes before even a simple spell turned out to be something corruptive, if only due to cleansing of filth wasn't done flawlessly. I believe we need to seriously look into Naru before committing rash experimentation.

I would sooner trust Rei to have a sudden transformation into Mars. That one is both plausible and definitely lacks the nastier long term consequences we might run into.

Also on the topic of Naru. Final arc of the anime has definitely set the precedent of magical girls sending their Soul away to reincarnate while leaving a corrupted body behind. This is literally Galaxia, and to some extent her minions.

If this is what happened to Beryl, then arrival of Galaxia will be, literally, sixth* verse, same as the first.

*Beryl, Ail and Ann, Black Moon Clan, Pharaoh 90, Nehellenia, and Galaxia.

EDIT: To provide my guess on the invisitext.

Presumably Feed will Drain Life energy from someone. Possibly Youma. But not guaranteed.

Presumably Command will have Naru give orders to Youma.

Interesting disparities in the numbers. When last the Senshi faced Jadeite, his combat bonus was 30, while Endymion's was 21. This time, Jadeite and Endymion are both equal at 27. Hm, one supposes that Caliburn would give Endymion a greater bonus than it would to Jadeite, seeing as Caliburn is likely attuned to Endymion specifically.

"Command" is tempting, but would Youma even obey her when she is exhausted and almost powerless? Not to mention that trying to exert power again might knock Naru out for the entirety of the round.

Right. Before I forget.

Feed as I said is Naru probably draining Life energy from someone. I feel it prudent to remind people that Usagi felt as almost Youma after she was the focal conduit for Life drain cram school. And that it was mentioned that people can become youma by consuming an inordinately high amount of Life energy.

Logically this implies Naru on Feed may also become Youma. I can't begin to guess if this is a good outcome, a bad outcome, or a sideways result.

[X][Naru] Help

Let's be real here, I do not think an option labeled feed in the plot arc filled with life energy eating Corruptive and Transmittable Monsters is going to lead to good things.

All of that, however, is nothing compared to the confusion born of seeing the red robed boy and three other figures standing next to him.

The girls who went ahead are nowhere to be seen.
Poor Kimiko and the bullshit-tier cognitohazards.

Hm. Sailor Moon probably now knows Haruka is Sailor Uranus, and I have to wonder how she's going to take that.

Naru still doesn't know Haruka is Sailor Uranus. Probably.

A step forward, then another, and the room comes slightly more into focus, but each step is getting harder and harder. Finally, putting her all into one final step, there are three audible pops, and the world comes into focus. Before the policewoman can focus on the fact that there was not just one pop, she hears a slightly pained gasp from her side. A glance to the side answers that. It seems that the Priestess and the girl who allowed the missing girls into the hole in the air have followed after her.

Wait.
Go figure, it's the "pile in" reflex.

LESSER YOUMA - 4; 1; 1; 8; 5; 7; 7; 9; 5; 7 = 54 / 2.6 = 21
I'm flattered you decided to use my normalization mechanic.

🤩

Thanks!

Thankfully, while Inuyasha isn't interested in the captured people, he did do a lot of clearing the way for the Senshi to follow after.

"Drop the Girl!" Usagi stops, blinking in place before she slowly tilts her head up.

TUX? - 3 + 27 = 30
AMI - Wake up, get up, get out there - 3 + 19 = 22

KEIGAN - SHAPE OF!- 6 + 10 = 16
JADEITE - 9 + 27 = 36
I don't know what a Keigan is but it sounds badly outclassed in this battle. Then again, so is Ami, still, alas.

Tux... Tuxedo Mask?

There is a part of the girl that wonders what he is doing here, but then she remembers that she did pretty much tell him to his faaaaaaa-

Tell Mamoru where she was going, and Mamoru could have very easily made sure that Tuxedo Mask was on his way. However, that doesn't explain how he got here first.
Usagi-brain crashes into cognitohazards and the result is the square root of negative purple.

With that said, it's, well, it's a good question, and the likely answer is "Tuxedo Mask realized we were gunning for Jadeite and took the rooftops himself, getting here ahead of our bus trip." As to how he got IN here, well, he apparently has some kind of infiltration/shadow teleportation ability.

Usagi blinks. Some part of her brain struggling to comprehend the image in front of her. It's Jadeite, however that isn't the part of all of this that has drawn the girl to a stop. No.

That would be the fact that the General of the Dark Kingdom is holding an unconscious Ami by the back of her neck. Standing there and using the girl as some kind of... human shield.
SON OF A BITCH! HE'S REVERTING TO TYPE!

Let's teach him some pattern recognition.

Uranus and Neptune look to each other for a moment, a surprised look of worry on Uranus's face. Mind you, Uranus actually being a girl is a thing that Usagi is still trying to wrap her head around. Not the least of which being the fact that the girl isn't sure if Tennou is a guy who transforms into a girl, or if Tennou was always a girl, and just pretended to be a guy. However, this isn't the time to think about all of that.
Prioritization! With difficulty!

"Oh, is the little human awake?" The familiar voice of Jadeite says from behind her. "Hah, this will be good." The Dark General says, "I've always enjoyed watching the pathetic creatures squirm. Tell me, pretender? How should I kill the girl?" Jadeite asks, and Ami can barely keep herself from bristling with irritation.

It seems, however, that the girl wasn't able to keep herself still enough, as the Dark General pulls back, a smirk on his face as he turns the girl to face her. "What about you?" Jadeite asks, "Anything to add?"

"Actually." Ami says, watching as the Dark General raises an eyebrow. "I do have one thing to say."

"Oh?" The Demon says with a grin, "And what would that be?"

"MERCURY POWER!" The girl yells, her magic channeling hard all around her, frost starting to form on the Dark Kingdom General's sleeve.

"Oh, you have got to be-" Jadeite barely manages to complain before the girl finishes her incantation.

"MAKEUP!" Ami continues, and with a blast of frost and ice, the Dark Kingdom warrior is blown back, one half of his body frosted over as Sailor Mercury lands.
PATTERN RECOGNITION!

HAHAHAAA!

[Untested Bonus Proc - 1 of 2 fights to reach 5 of 5 to Overcome]
Yay!

There are so many things wrong with that sentence, but Kimiko doesn't have time to explain even a single one of them. Not when...

The woman's thoughts come to a stop as she hears a high pitched laugh. Turning, she is faced with a creature that is like something out of a nightmare.

There, towering over the woman is nearly ten feet of green scaled muscle and blade. The creature continues to laugh, as it rumbles closer and closer to the three. Kimiko's gun snaps up, firing with a loud, sharp BANG! BANG! BANG BANG BANG! However, the bullets seem to do nothing to the beast.

Behind her, the young priestess yells out a mantra of some kind, before tossing a paper seal towards the beast. Kimiko, for the most part ignores it, after all, how much damage could a piece of paper actually do to something like-

That thought in interrupted when the Demon before her actually tries to dodge the paper. The dodge is unsuccessful, the paper slapping against the creatures arm, before the whole of the arm bursts into flame.

Right. Magic. Of course the answer would be magic.
[thwap]

"Magic must defeat magic!"

[sorry, sorry, wrong series]

Also, good thing you had more than one of those, Rei, because you expended your first exploding piece of paper on Haruka. No, we are not letting you live that down right away.

Taking a breath, the policewoman starts to charge up her own magic, causing electricity to dance across her hands. Naru's eyes trail down to the woman's hands, before she yelps, diving to one side.

As one, Rei and Kimiko watch the girl dodge, before turning back, just in time to get slammed hard. The demon having ripped it's arm off, and thrown it at the two, even as the limb begins to regenerate.

Naru watches, eyes wide. Honestly, she isn't even sure what she is doing here. Or why she decided to come, despite everything...

[ ][Naru] Command
[ ][Naru] Feed

CHOOSE ONE:
[ ][Naru] Fight
- You've got a spell... You don't have to stay on the sidelines anymore...
[ ][Naru] Run
- Clearly, coming into this place was a mistake. Even if there are people that need help...
[ ][Naru] Help
- There are captives here, and with the demons mostly focused on the Senshi, you might be able to get to the gate, and if you can get people out of here?
So yeah, others have spotted the invisitext by now, I'm sure. "Feed" sounds like a Very Bad Plan. "Command" might actually be crazy enough to work and would help us get to the bottom of all this Naru stuff, but might open doors we're not ready to open.

Usagi-brain crashes into cognitohazards and the result is the square root of negative purple.
I don't think so. Usagi knows Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask she is just living in denial:
Mamoru has the same heartflower as Tuxedo Mask. But that...

No.

No, there has to be a reason for that.

There just has to-

Ah! Of course! Usagi smiles to herself, nodding now that she has thought of an absolutely foolproof reason for Mamoru to have the same heart flower as Tuxedo Mask.

Really, the answer is completely obvious.

That's not Mamoru, it's Tuxedo Mask disguised as Mamoru!

Yes, that is an idea that totally works and doesn't have any glaring holes in the thought process that Usagi is very defiantly ignoring and refusing to acknowledge.
That roll was about whether or not Usagi was able to tell that Mamoru having the information she needed was coincidence or something more.

And as the title of the update implies, at this point Usagi knows that Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask, and that he is probably the reincarnation of her past life's boyfriend...

But she doesn't know what to do with that information and he is continuing to be an atrocity against fashion... So she is ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away.
That is why her thoughts jerk away in the most recent update; she is actively trying not to think about the fact Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask and thus is likely also Prince Endymion.

"Wait!" Kimiko cries out, hand outstretched and taking a step forward as the blonde haired girl leaps backwards, passing through the aperture of the portal. "Shit!" The woman cries out, instinct and training crashing against each other.

There is a part of the woman that is terrified of passing through that portal, having already seen what these monsters are capable of, another part of the woman wants to just grab hold of all of the teens there, holding them tight in order to keep them from following after their blonde haired friend.

Yet another part of the woman knows that sitting back and doing nothing is not a possibility, not when she has the power to do something about it. The choice is taken out of her hands, however when the three older teens follow after, passing through the portal as well.

poor Kimiko. She's a good woman, just... wrong genre savvy.

After all, even when looking at what we already did, the logical conclusion would be that we have power similar to hers, not that we actually outmatch her as much as we do.

And even if we were exactly as strong as she is (which is a reasonable estimate when she's the only data point she has to compare us to), we're still just teens.

And even if we were stronger... well, she KNOWS that Youma are MUCH stronger than she is. We could be twice as good as she is, and STILL be marching to our death.

All of this is, of course, assuming she doesn't know and/or has dismissed the sailor scouts rumors

Kimiko doesn't even know what she is looking at. A strange, fleshy... tentacle like thing, dropping down from the ceiling. The tendrils seem to pulse and writhe, holding the people up off the ground, wrapping down their bodies and then back up around to clamp a clawed tendril onto the people's faces.
uh.

Worse than I remembered from the anime.

All of that, however, is nothing compared to the confusion born of seeing the red robed boy and three other figures standing next to him.

The girls who went ahead are nowhere to be seen.
This NEVER gets old

A glance to the side answers that. It seems that the Priestess and the girl who allowed the missing girls into the hole in the air have followed after her.
What a completely unexpected development!

USAGI - SENSHI! Attack! - 7 + 21 = 28
NEPTUNE - 7 + 22 = 29
URANUS - 6 + 25 = 31
INUYASHA - CURSED BLADE - 2 + 37 = 39

LESSER YOUMA - 4; 1; 1; 8; 5; 7; 7; 9; 5; 7 = 54 / 2.6 = 21

Well, round 1 is a decisive win for us.

Also, right now Inuyasha outmatches everyone on team senshi except Jupiter.

Sailor Moon pointedly refuses to think about the fact that some of these Youma may have at one point been human, telling that to Uranus and Neptune could make them lose focus. If she can save any of them, then the Moon Princess plans on doing just that, but she can't rely on that. Not now.
Yeah, we can start off with our purification spells, but if these don't work we quite literally don't have a choice.

Following the lead of their Princess, Uranus and Neptune follow after, delivering sharp kicks and bone shattering blows as they move across. Right here, right now, the Princess is right. Saving the Hostages is the first step towards solving any of the problem.
Random thought: it would have been just so funny if Venus came to us like in canon, proclaming "I'm actually the princess!" as according to her script.. and then Usagi goes "wait, I thought I was the princess!".

Sadly I think Luna might have already told Artemis...

TUX? - 3 + 27 = 30
AMI - Wake up, get up, get out there - 3 + 19 = 22

KEIGAN - SHAPE OF!- 6 + 10 = 16
JADEITE - 9 + 27 = 36

...is this actually happening?

Is Jadeite using another magical girl as hostage?!

:lol2:

The denial is strong in this girl.

That would be the fact that the General of the Dark Kingdom is holding an unconscious Ami by the back of her neck. Standing there and using the girl as some kind of... human shield.
He is!

Ehi, we won't tell anyone if you don't!

It seems, however, that the girl wasn't able to keep herself still enough, as the Dark General pulls back, a smirk on his face as he turns the girl to face her. "What about you?" Jadeite asks, "Anything to add?"

IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING AGAIN! :rofl2:

I have to wonder, if he ever capture someone on our side that ISN'T a senshi.. could he/she bluff him by starting a nonsense incantation, and have him drop us and give up the hostage for nothing?

I think he'll be traumatized enough that, if he survives this fight, he might actually fall for such a bluff!

KIMIKO - 1 + 15 = 16
REI - 1 + 11 = 12
Ehi, Kimiko's not that bad!

unawakened Rei is instead mostly useless, and add a nat 1 to that...

The woman's thoughts come to a stop as she hears a high pitched laugh. Turning, she is faced with a creature that is like something out of a nightmare.
..uh.

That's new.

eh, it's probably just a minor youma

Behind her, the young priestess yells out a mantra of some kind, before tossing a paper seal towards the beast. Kimiko, for the most part ignores it, after all, how much damage could a piece of paper actually do to something like-

That thought in interrupted when the Demon before her actually tries to dodge the paper. The dodge is unsuccessful, the paper slapping against the creatures arm, before the whole of the arm bursts into flame.
Kimiko, you REALLY have to start to adapt.

Then again, of all the people that entered here, Rei was apparently the only outsider, not counting her, so she WAS the most likely to have no power whatsoever..

Also this youma must be really weak if an 11 was actually worth an arm on fire...though maybe it has extra effectiveness, like Kagome's attacks?

As one, Rei and Kimiko watch the girl dodge, before turning back, just in time to get slammed hard. The demon having ripped it's arm off, and thrown it at the two, even as the limb begins to regenerate.

ah. THIS is why the arm was such a low-roll result.

Makes sense

Naru watches, eyes wide. Honestly, she isn't even sure what she is doing here. Or why she decided to come, despite everything.
[ ][Naru] Command

mh.. of the "normal" options, I'd likely go with Help.

Run is obviously not an option, and Naru's spell isn't really suited to battle.

Yet, there are obviously the two "hidden" options.

of the two, command is probably the safer one... and yet, if there's a time to try "feed", it would be when we're close to our purification magic experts..

eh, why not.

[x][Naru] Feed

I might change my mind later, but right now I just hope to jog Naru's memory some more, and possibly give her a power-up.

OK, before we decide, we should figure out what Command or Feed actually mean. I don't think I'll support either of them, but we ought to have a guess at what they'll do, and especially what effect that has on our guesses about Naru's identity. As for what we'd actually use, Fight seems too taxing for our circumstances, so I'd be supporting either Run or Help. Maybe Command, depending on consensus.
"Feed" means either "try to eat the youma," "try to channel some kind of dark-themed magic into the youma" or "go full Dark Kingdom and backstab her allies to empower the youma," depending on how dark things are. I'm guessing it's the first or second. The second sounds like a bad idea unless feeding it makes it imprint on Naru or something. The first might solve the immediate problem, but would probably create more problems immediately afterwards.

"Command" sounds fairly self-explanatory; Naru draws on whatever aspect of herself got all huffy at Beryl and thought of her as a usurper or a mockery or something, and starts shouting orders at the youma.

Also, does this mean Officer Kimiko knows Mercury's identity? That's not ideal.
If Kimiko happens to have been looking in the right direction, she knows that Sailor Mercury is a bluenette schoolgirl, about 13-15 years old, seen while being held at an awkward angle in bad lighting by a terrorist. Not enough for good visual ID, unless maybe by sheer chance Kimiko was on the same bus Ami was on and Ami disappeared specifically from that bus and Kimiko was even paying enough attention to recognize her while they were on the bus.

Note that "bluenette" is NOT good enough to get a reasonable visual identification on an otherwise unknown girl (plus in this lighting Ami's hair may look just generically dark). Of the... I'm going to casually estimate twenty or so female characters we've seen on screen so far, three have blue hair (Ami, Akane, and Usagi's mom). There are easily thousands of girls of Ami's approximate age, build, and hair color in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area... and it's 1992, so it's not like the cops can just quick-sort through a digital photo database or whatever.

No, Ami, Jadeite, and Tuxedo Mask are a good... hmm... forty feet above the rest of the battle.
Also, Word of QM yeah.

Jadeite should just give up on kidnapping young girls.
I know right? Time to reconsider his life choices.

The memetic BS continues.
The inconsistency is interesting. She had previously 'decided' that the person who appeared to be Mamoru was Tux in disguise.
Yeah.

It looks like Usagi is, to borrow vocabulary from a different blonde demon-hunter's series, "Buffy-thinking" her way around the cognitohazard effect in real time, coming up with different sidestep mechanisms for the "Mamoru cannot possibly be Tuxedo Mask" problem each time.

*sighs* One supposes that it could not be helped, but Mercury transforming before Jadeite's eyes does mean that he knows both her identities now. Of course, Moon blurting out Mercury's civilian name did not help the situation. Perhaps some more remedial training in regards to operations security is in order.

...Well, the first arc is nearing its end. It will be resolved one way or another, hopefully without Jadeite revealing Mercury to the rest of the Dark Kingdom in the process.

Unfortunately, it is also not the best time for Mars to awaken, not with Jadeite and the police officer present.
True. Though we may be able to rely on Kimiko's discretion, and...

Well, I gather that in the manga when Mars awakened, she killed Jadeite. Straight-up burned him to death. Given that there's considerably more hostile magical girl firepower rattling around this time, he may not be getting out of this alive.

I mean, let's see, we've got Moon, Mercury, Jupiter if we can find her, and Neptune. Depending on Haruka's gender identity, Haruka counts as either a magical girl or an honorary magical girl, the latter category also encompassing Tuxedo Mask. Inuyasha doesn't count as a magical girl, honorary or otherwise, but is still carving through the bastards like a goddamn thermonuclear weedeater anyway. Kimiko, Naru, and Rei so far count as half a magical girl each, with an option on awakening to greater power for Naru and Rei.

So... minimalist answer, 3+2+1.5 equals six and a half magical girls (including honoraries). Maximalist answer, 4+2+2.5 (including finding Sailor Jupiter, honoraries, and awakenings) equals eight and a half.

Jadeite either gets the fuck out right now or he is in very deep doodoo.

Got word in discord - most youma would have to use two hands to lift a heavily overweight office worker; jadeite can do so with one hand easy.
Prowess 27 has got to be worth something under the hood, I guess. On the other hand, your heavily overweight hostage is going to be a bit hard to hold without tearing; a man's neck can't take that kind of weight, for instance, nor will his clothes from many angles.

Oh, also, Jadeite was punching at Prowess 30. Unless he's still weakened by the injuries Pretty Cure inflicted on him about, uh... four days ago (unlikely, he must have some source of magical healing, surely?)... Well, I think we know what Caliburn's worth. Namely, +3 Prowess, +3 Martial, or some partial combination of the two.

Lets not mess around with corruptive magic that we don't understand, 'kay?

Though I'm sad now that Usagi found out Uranus' identity before heavily flirting with Haruka. The sexual confusion would have been glorious.
I mean, honestly this version of Usagi would probably just keep going. She seems inhibited about her attraction towards girls, at least a bit, but she's sure as skippy not confused about it. If anything I'd expect it to go the other way around, based on her portrayal so far. Imagine the crossover:

'90s Anime Sailor Uranus: "It's true. I'm a girl. I never outright said I was a boy, now did I?"
[amused arch look on her face]

'20s Quest Sailor Moon: [FLIRTATION INTENSIFIES]

'90s Anime Sailor Uranus: O_O
