Oh yes. Nothing explicit enough for me to call anyone out over, but still popping up regularly enough for me to take it into an account. Believe me, I'm not exactly thrilled at having to work around it.
Personally, I'd vote for you to "screw the haters". I mean I spout some bullshit from time to time and you have no problem (rightfully) shutting me down. But I get how you didn't come here to play moderator and swing banhammers and I can guess that you'd really hate having to do anything like that.
it probably wouldn't be for us.
Nice! What can I say. I'm a sucker for slow and detail oriented.
That's a thing in the Empire? Or is it more of a "Emerald College secret" that Mathilde already knows about? Or are we just talking random one-night-stand father (with careful selection) which I could imagine being an option for many a practically minded secular Magister, but feels weird for cutely prude and overthinking Mathilde.

Also, what's the status of adopted children and their ability to inherit major noble titles in the Empire?

Okay if Mathilde has a child with Panoramia using a sperm donor, I'm sorry, but Egrimm van Horstmann must be the father. This is non-negotiable :V

How about sequencial/planned career.
For instance, knowledge and implementation of waystone. Perhaps also how to make ourself a goddess.

Start with
Elfland adventure..
To build our connection to those of the elven kind. We might be the best of our generation. We can always be better, either in magic, stealth or sword.
Perhaps we might even be able to buy a book or two about waystone. Or if such is forbidden, build relation to those who knew.

Followes by :
waystone project to find out and be that one in a century magister who learn both side of the dwarf-elven knowledge. There might be secret to even more knowledge or well see where this leads.

And lets top it with :
Border prince.
Where we can apply our waystone knowledge there, in the one godforsaken wasteland nobody would care.
And as waystone is like magical powerline, imagine if we build a series of kill monolith, powered by waystone who can instantly kill any greenskin who walks on any land it is installed.
Kinda like magical obelisk of light.

Edit : just an example and too early for that as you never know.

Anyhow.. i'd really like to see elfland.. preferably before war (if any) with that rogue province.

"You sure you don't want me to travel with you?" Johann asks again.

"Someone needs to keep Max out of trouble," you reply lightly.
HE'S TRYING TO SAY SOMETHING, MATHY

Up on deck, Egrimm is watching the rising sun and you take a moment to take in the landscape with him. Dawn is a time of significance for both your Orders, though for quite different reasons. To Ulgu it is a transition, the moment on the cusp of day and night, not fully one or the other, where shadows stretch longest and fog still clings to the ground. To Hysh it is illumination, the hidden and unknown becoming suddenly clear as a single source of pure light banishes the darkness. As the two of you stand there, strands of Ulgu creep up the side of the steam-wagon to seep into you and wisps of Hysh ride sunbeams to find purchase in Egrimm.

"It's been a pleasure working alongside you," he eventually says, "and a very welcome reminder that the competent can still claw their way up the ranks."
.....well great. I ship it now.

Swamp Town is really, really tempting and I want to know more about that before I say anything either way. I also want a bit of info about Wissenland. Those two and Nagarythe are my priorities.

Non-traditional ambition all the way. I think we would have enough time and energy to do research, while still making an impact (or enough vice versa with way stones). I don't think we care about the day to day administration that being a major ruler in our own right is, and we could likely get a better patch of land with any of the imperial jobs that we could hand off.

I really think we should look into the Wissenland situation, not even to take the job but maybe offer a few months of help like we did with Roswita, we can't lose a major empire city to Skaven.

Not to get too much into the mechanics of it all, but it doesn't take too much climbing of biology's tech tree to know what substance you need to put in which orifice. Going through the motions of the traditional application process is optional.

Also, what's the status of adopted children and their ability to inherit major noble titles in the Empire?

Strongly precedented. Altdorf is the modern capital of Reikland because at one point the Elector Count of Reikland adopted and designated as his heir the Prince of Altdorf.

Fighting Skaven is always a good thing, and I'd love to do more Dwarfplomicy where trustworthyness and upfront honesty is more effective than the usual song and dance of diplomatic haggling. Over all though; this feels like an excellent time to head over to Nagarythe. Things are, for the most part, currently quiet, and I'd love to get a power/skill boost from working with the shadow elves.

Or you could turn to the biggest possible project you could pursue. The Laurelorn Elves have voiced their desire to work with you to unravel as many secrets as possible about the network in the slightly inaccurate belief that you already have some of those secrets. This might be the only chance to pool the knowledge of the Laurelorn, the Empire, and the Karaz Ankor, and for a project that could do wonderful things. Sure, you doubt you'll be able to replicate the combined efforts of the Elves and Dwarves at their heights, but every scrap of understanding of the existing network could make all three peoples better able to protect and make use of the ancient energy streams.

[X] Governor-General of Swamp Town
This one is an oddity. The others, you can follow the logic as to why it was offered to you, specifically. But why Swamp Town? Are things there so drastic they need a powerful Wizard to get it under control? Is something particularly magical going on there? Has it become a haven for Black Magisters? Whatever the case, if you want mysteries and adventure, there's few places like the New World for encountering both on a regular basis.

[X] Border Princess of the Howling River
With Karak Vlag returned, the only pass through the World's Edge Mountains that is not dominated by an existing Dwarfhold is Mad Dog Pass. It seems that Barak Varr wants to change that. Many have tried to make something useful of the sprawling, anarchic lands known as the Border Princes over the year, and one of the few times it was managed was almost two thousand years ago, when Emperor Sigismund the Conquerer established the province of Lichtenberg. With Dwarven support, perhaps you can follow in his footsteps.

[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
Though the offer came through the Chamberlain of the Imperial House, this has Heidi's fingerprints all over it. You're not sure if the offer is for exactly what it says or as a cover for beings her catspaw as she plays politics, but either way it would be a position extremely close to the levers of power, and one that would let you have a huge amount of influence over the likely future Emperor.
