Eh, that's certainly an interpretation, but not one I subscribe to. I prefer the non-binary interpretation.Personally my bet is that it is about Haruka's sexuality. Remember it is 1992 and while it certainly could be worse it still isn't a good time to be openly lesbian. Haruka presents as male not because she identifies so but because it makes her life easier. It lets her openly present Michiru as her girlfriend and gets more respect in her racing career.
This is why I think Michiru is gently ribbing her about being shy. Haruka just isn't confident enough to be openly homosexual or deal with the discrimination of being a woman in a very male industry. So she hides herself away behind a false male identity.
Oh, no; we actually get info on this, Queen Serenity and the rest of the Moon Kingdom watched over the Earth to oversee the evolution of humanity and civilization, with maybe some guidance here and there. It was very much a sorta 'Prime Directive' approach to the whole deal, which makes sense given that Queen Serenity arrived to settle on the moon 'upon its birth' which...pretty much implies that Silver Millenium was founded around the same time the moon was formed.Suppose Earth was a nature preserve on which ancestral humanity was very meticulously left alone while the rest of the solar system was extensively developed by time-traveling wizards. Suppose that first contact with Earth's civilization only occurred after the seminal event where some time-traveling wizard was known to have transported themselves a million years or so into the distant past to found that civilization. From Earth's perspective, very suddenly, the skies open up and a richer, more sophisticated culture greets them... but it is accustomed to viewing Earth very much as the poor relations of the Solar System, and Earth simply cannot match anything that they now have.
Ahhh. The planned reinforcemnts have arrived- and more teaser hints about Naru. Always more teaser hints. The first is a tall blonde haired girl. She looks like a boy, but she smells decidedly feminine, but even that is more than a little buried under the crinkly smell that prefaces the few tornadoes that Inuyasha had seen in his life. Wind Magic, and Wind Magic an order of power more than the Lightning lady.
The second is a shorter green haired girl... She smells... almost like a dragon of the sea, just... missing that particular fish smell that sea dragons have.
Then the last of the three. A petite red headed girl easily a few years younger than the two she is traveling with, and who smells... Different. Familiar. But Inuyasha can't target where in his memories he has smelled the smell of the girl's magic before...
Also more hinting, at something possibly beyond the obvious. Still trying to figure out how to explain- never mind, I'll talk about it when it gels in my brain.Tenou smiles, "Maybe she wants to feel like a superhero," The boy says, "Like Clark Kent talking to Lois Lane about Superman without the reporter knowing that she is talking to him at the moment."
Michiru elbows her boyfriend, a smile on her face. "It's more than Uranus is shy, and she'd prefer that as few people know her secret as possible. Maybe once she gets used to the Princess knowing her secret identity she'll open up to a few others." There is an odd look that quickly crosses Tenou's face at that statement, but Naru isn't entirely sure what it is.
If Naru were a more confident person, she would go and ask the woman what was wrong, but instead she and her two high schooler allies start their way up the steps towards the Shinto shrine.
Down at the base of the hill, a bus pulls out of the Shrine's stop, turning a corner to pass into a hill under the shrine. A shiver runs down Rei's back, her eyes sharpening as she takes a step away from Tenou, hissing. "An evil spirit?" The question throws everyone off guard, even more so when the girl pulls out a Ofuda that Naru and her two friends can both feel brimming with magical power. "BEGONE EVIL SPIRIT!"
Be it by magic, or by the sheer force with which Rei throws the mystical charm, but Tenou's head is knocked back, the teenager stumbling back even as the charm stays attached where it landed. The moment passes, and all of a sudden Rei Hino, the miko of the shrine goes from filled with righteous anger to confused and embarrassed. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me."
However, Michiru is anything but angry, instead giggling softly. "No, no. It's fine. Maybe eyes will learn not to wander."
From his position a few steps back, Tenou can't help but throw in his own two cents. "Would it be better, or worse if I said I was imagining you in the Miko's outfit."
The other good news is that Rei expended the thing on someone who wasn't going to be hurt by it. I don't know what that thing would do to Inuyasha, maybe nothing, but I'm just as glad not to find out. Before she can answer, the Miko tenses again, turning back. "Naru!" Usagi says as she turns the corner, Luna following close behind with the red robed demon boy that Usagi and Ami met a few weeks ago. "You're here. Are the others?"
"The source of the disappearances. Not sure how, or why," The reincarnated princess explains, not even stopping as she continues past the girl. "Good news is that if everyone else is here, then we've got what we need to handle it." Usagi says to the priestess, "So the disappearances should stop by this time tomorrow." The girl says, completely ignoring the confused look on Rei's face.
Ahh. So. Um. Kimiko and Rei trailed us. And now...Coming to a stop so fast that she literally slides for a moment, Inuyasha glares at a spot in the air. "There!" He growls out. "There... In there." He says, "But I don't know how to get in."
Unnoticed by all but one of the group of Senshi and allies, two figures have been slowly following after the Senshi. One a priestess who wondered what the hell Usagi meant by what she said, the other a police officer only out of the Hospital by a few days, who found herself already back on the job, not for a desire to do so, but for a lack of others who can do the things that she can do.

- It's like Inuyasha's sword isn't hard enough to pierce through the barrier, but thankfully Naru's magic can make things harder. Maybe if she used her spell on the sword, then that would be able to pierce through the barrier.

- Usagi's own magic is seemingly built for exactly the purpose of fighting the Dark Kingdom. She was surely got to have some ability to enhance Inuyasha's blade to be able to pierce the veil.

I don't think it's that simple, honestly...Personally my bet is that it is about Haruka's sexuality. Remember it is 1992 and while it certainly could be worse it still isn't a good time to be openly lesbian. Haruka presents as male not because she identifies so but because it makes her life easier. Currently voting 'Blessed' myself, but... could you expand on that? It's not something I was concerned about, should it be?
I mean.Oh, no; we actually get info on this, Queen Serenity and the rest of the Moon Kingdom watched over the Earth to oversee the evolution of humanity and civilization, with maybe some guidance here and there. It was very much a sorta 'Prime Directive' approach to the whole deal, which makes sense given that Queen Serenity arrived to settle on the moon 'upon its birth' which...pretty much implies that Silver Millenium was founded around the same time the moon was formed.
Also, time travel is explicitly forbidden by decree of Queen Serenity and the whole point of the Time-Space Door is so that Pluto has something to shut would-be meddlers of space and time out. So yeah, as absurd as it sounds; ancient human civilization existed, prospered and thrived, and then got smacked by the extinction event and history eraser button that is Metalia and Sailor Saturn respectively, then had to start from scratch all over again.
Honestly, it's less absurd than the mindbending temporal contortion that is Crystal Tokyo.
I mean...not really? We've seen via Chibiusa that aging for senshi can go FUBAR and lead to some weird shit. And it doesn't matter how old, powerful, or permanent a fixture the Silver Millennium is when Saturn comes along and giga genocide blasts everything into oblivion. Which is literally what happened, complete with basically nothing left standing until Usagi got her magic plot rock working which restored a bunch of stuff.I mean.
First, the "Queen Serenity has been on the Moon for four billion years" just seems... off, somehow, it turns the Silver Millennium into something too permanent and powerful a fixture. It means either an improbably young moon or an absurdly old Silver Millennium- especially if so many of its protectors were of young chronological age, as is sometimes implied.
Honestly that veers way to close to shitty fanfic fanon for me to put any faith or credence into it. Frankly, it feels far more right and correct to me that the Moon Kingdom and Silver Millennium existed in a sort of 'time before time' sense, which works out wonderfully if you have it date back before even the fossil record. Bonus points if you can tie in the Fall and Saturn's Purge with an actual extinction event.Second, the "Moon Kingdom expressly prohibits time travel" rule makes if anything MORE sense if the overall Silver Millennium civilization is a product of a singular act of time travel. They don't need to wonder whether time travel can shape mighty civilizations beyond their capacity to respond; they know. The Time-Space Door and Sailor Pluto's custody over it aren't in place just as a matter of general principle; they are explicitly trying to "lock in" a history of the timeline that includes only the time travel beneficial to their interests.
Third, the "Moon Kingdom established to watch over Earth" thing works with a "Silver Millennium is the product of a very long period of development in space by a time-traveling Earth magician" thing. Of course the Moon Kingdom is watching closely over Earth to prevent any meddling; they don't want to butterfly their own history. See previous.
Well, somebody gotta conserve mana for DPS and crowd control.

Ehi, look! Character growth! But as he does so, there in the back of his mind, there is a voice that sounds almost like Kagome's telling him to go and get the Moon girl. He scowls at the thought, confident in the fact that he doesn't need any help. A voice almost like Sango's points out that just because he doesn't need the help doesn't mean that the help isn't useful, and a voice like Miroku's argues that they might be able to help get Kagome out of their shared enemy's hands, which would leave whoever did this open to getting beaten to death for taking Kagome.10 + 7 = 17

Saturn, Neptune, Naru and lightning police woman! Add Moon, Inuyasha, and maybe Mars if we're lucky... plus the hostages, potentially...The first is a tall blonde haired girl. Whatever the source, that is three more people who might be able to help in the fight against the Demon that has taken Kagome. With that the boy slips back among the trees, vanishing into the shadows like he was never there, with nary a mortal soul having seen him.
again, the glamour is STRONG."You're sure that Uranus will be able to arrive on time?" The girl asks, looking to Michiru.
Rei, I assure you that thirstiness is a normal thing for a senshi of your age to have!"Nonsense," Tenou says, sliding up next to the shrine maiden, "He's just sharing a laugh with me over our shared fine tastes. And I must say, if this is what a shrine maiden looks like, then I wouldn't mind working here myself part time."
Down at the base of the hill, a bus pulls out of the Shrine's stop, turning a corner to pass into a hill under the shrine. Admit it, Inuyasha sniffing the ground like a dog IS a funny imageInuyasha drops down not just to a crouch, but full onto all fours, sniffing at the ground. "No..." he starts to say, before he pauses. "Wait... I know that shampoo. Yes." Step by crawling step, the boy moves forward, closer and closer to the tunnel that passes under the shrine.
