Thinking about it, I am not comfortable with Burny direclty affecting that many of our citizens.
Call it a protest vote or smth.

[X] The Boon of Healing of Mind and Body: Fire taken with ceremony (Cost a total of 50 IM/Lantern) from the flame atop the temple will have the power to cure arcane ailments of mind and body (Restore 1d2 points of Ability Drain per day).

Just feels like a potentially bad thing, no matter how close we get with him.

I just realized that bar brawls and other disorderly conduct is gonna get even more so when everyone can have access to a damage dealing cantrip like acid, fire, psyhic, etc. Not to mention lots of utility cantrips being open for people to use them for good and ill.

Naturally upsides and downsides, but still mostly good I say.

No, everyone will get a single cantrip and cannot change it. If someone wastes their choice on something like Ray of Frost or Jolt, they deserved to get punched in the face for trying to use it in a bar brawl.

I doubt everyone will get Prestidigitation or Mending like they should, but cantrips are not combat spells and I will be disappointed that the opportunity was wasted on anyone who chooses one.
Can we settle on "The Empire", maybe?
"Imperium" just feels like lazy plagizarising to me :/
Not being big into WH40K, it doesn't feel that way at all to me. I like Imperium as the name for our empire and would prefer not to change that now, especially after we've been calling it that for years now.

I've had my heart set on the name for years now. It's just an awesome name.

Also The Empire doesn't quite work imo, since it's not actually The Empire. That'd be more fitting if we were the biggest kid on the block, but we're not. The Shaitan have the Peerless Empire.

Same here. I was never into WH40K (yet) so it never felt that bad to call our empire the Imperium, or name our intrigue force the Inquisition. It always felt genuinely woven into the quest.

By the way, if it's just everyone in the city proper who gets to benefit from this vote, that means that over 250,000~ people will be granted this bonus feat. Assuming it extends to everyone on Grey Gallows, it might be closer to 280-300,000~ people.

Actually, it almost certainly is anywhere from 280,000-300,000, since the last of this month's immigrants have just freshly rolled in, meaning their first taste of life in Sorcerer's Deep is literally being granted the ability to cast magic themselves, even if only a cantrip, and their very own strongly dominant sorcerous bloodline.

We are literally going to be buried in Sorcerers. Our trends for active mages will strongly mirror the Freehold in the majority of our mages being spontaneous casters. I would have said it would have been from a variety of different bloodlines, though if you think about it, draconic blood is still a strongly dominant trait spread throughout Western Essos, and if you factor the number of people with latent arcane ability throughout the Imperium proper with either Fiendish, Fey or Draconic sorcerous bloodlines, those three groups probably outsize even this large group... if only barely, and only added together.

Since this group is dominant enough that it's suggested that the bloodline will strongly propagate outside of Sorcerer's Deep to the wider Imperium, however, that won't last long at all. This is a very large starting population.

By the way @Azel, @egoo, I just realized the invasion plans didn't account for the two Gladius' we just finished this month.

Did you want to just hold those back in Sorcerer's Deep? Or have them serve as escorts for the Dauntless? Or even have them accelerate the invasion elsewhere.

I've assigned them to the 1st Battlegroup, so they are deployed to the Vale together with the Moonchaser.

It's one of the few places where Westerosi military formations have a chance to dig in and resist us, simply because they can hide in forested valleys, so I want to make sure we vaporize as much of the rebels as we can before the survivors wisen up.

How about we use a random name generator and pick one that sound vaguely like Valyrian for our empire. It doesn't even have to make sense.

I think I would prefer a name that makes sense for something that important, I don't want to be tripping over random syllables that I know mean nothing OOC. Also a more neutral name makes more sense than something Valyrian IMO. Keep in mind Viserys is not some unmitigated fan of the Freehold, he knows too many of their dirty secrets and not so secret dirty deeds for that.

On the Question of whether we should chose 'Empire' or 'Imperium' I think we should ask if want to be know as the 'Emperor' or 'Imperator' as they are the linked titles to the names.

How about Imperu Tal-Mirakli?
It's Maltese for " Empire of Miracles"

Fitting because the Stepstones use to be a military outpost, right? Our am I remembering that wrong?

Nah, mostly lawless land because none of the major powers around the Stepstones wanted their rivals to control them.
So most of the isles were just minor pirate-retreats.

The only outpost there was Westhaven, a Tyroshi military structure, but that didn't really control much of the area.

  • [X] The Boon of Fire Kindled in the Humblest Hearth: The entire population of Sorcerer's Deep gains the Bonus Feat Arcane Talent. The boon is hereditary and semi-dominant, the number of those blessed are likely to spread and increase in time. Those who wield such minor magics are more likely to bloom into full sorcery. In such a case they may freely exchange the feat for Minor Spell Expertise as soon as they have gained the ability to cast Level 3 spells
[X] The Boon of Protection Against the Dark: The fire of the temple retains the ability to serve as an arcane lighthouse, making it much easier to navigate the surrounding waters. (+1 Provincial Wealth from Trade). Lys, Myr, Tyrosh, and Volantis gain similar benefits as well. With further study the Red Priests will be able to replicate the ability to other trading hubs.
[x] The Boon of Healing of Mind and Body: Fire taken with ceremony (Cost a total of 50 IM/Lantern) from the flame atop the temple will have the power to cure arcane ailments of mind and body (Restore 1d2 points of Ability Drain per day).

Part MMMDCCXX: First Steps in the Dance
First Steps in the Dance

Twenty-Fourth Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

And lo the light of the Hidden Fire came down from the peak of the temple like the gentle rays of dawn and touched the hearts of the people, and all knew a new age had come to the world. To each in their own measure were gifted the power. To potters with the shards of their work all around them were given the power to mend, those who toiled in the heat where given the company of a soothing wind upon their brows, those who walked in darkness now had a light to guide them steadier than any mortal flame. Such were the Gifts of the Founding and it was good in the land.

-From the Sermon of Melisandre of Asshai, Year One After the Founding

As one might imagine the sudden acquisition of minor magic powers by the entire population of Sorcerer's Deep as well as any visitors who happened to be passing through the town, bar the handful of folk too filled with their own magic to accept the blessing and those faithful servants of other gods who shied away from the touch of R'hllor, was the cause of much concern and many, many questions. Most of those questions went to the Scholarum with courses being canceled two days before the beginning of the celebrations simply so that the staff could walk among the citizens and reassure them that the powers were not cause to worry.

They did also end up turning away quite a few hopefuls who thought this new magic was cause for immediate admission into the Scholarum according to Teana, though of course she was hopeful that the new magic would lead to more students from the Deep in the long run. It is no secret that mages from the capital are in many ways easier to train and deal with due to being immersed in the odd and uncommon life of the city. Drinking deep of the dragon's cup, the Deepsmen called it in the taverns while partaking of less metaphoric libations.

"I suppose we are fortunate most of the lords have not started arriving for the coronation," your mother notes wryly as the two of you finally have a chance to catch up more of less out of the public eye at the day's homecoming feast for the expedition. "It would have made for some awkward explaining for the more pious among them."

"Might have done them good to see magic just a bit of verse or a whistle away for the more musically inclined," you snort, looking over the crowd.

Air force officers and pilots mingle freely with the members of the court, local notables and traders come from far and wide, the cachet of a grand victory polishing the silver and gold of their formal uniforms all the brighter. Distracted by plans for the coronation you almost trip into a couple doing some much more personal mingling of their own, warned only by Varys' sardonic mind voice. "I don't think they love you quite enough to let you join in..."

"Have you been spending time with Oberyn again?"
you ask suspiciously. The count of Golden Fields had arrived early, to 'prepare lodgings for the Dornish delegation', he claimed. Personally you think it is because he can hear a feast and festival from half a continent away and would not want to miss the opening notes.

"What a thing to say... of course I have," your familiar hisses a small laughs. "The kind of entanglements the man can get into stone sober are amusing enough, but if you pour enough wine into him he is better than a mirror show."

"Just as long as it stays a farce and not a morality tale with some irate father or husband looking to me for judgement,"
you half-grumble. The Red Viper had been good about avoiding the sorts of exploits that had made him infamous so far. Perhaps his sister is a good influence on him.

Speaking of Elia you catch a glimpse of her in the crowds moments before being thumped in the shin by a silk and silver clad cannonball that is Rhaenys. "Uncle Viseryssss, Jon won't dance with me. Tell him he has to dance with me. I just learned and I wanna show everyone, but not with one of the puffed up magisters' children, they're borrrring. He said something about it not being proper, but that's silly, we're kin, how can it not be proper?"

"Trying to explain how other realms than Dorne see bastards has been... a challenge," Elia admits with a smile as she reaches you. "I think the poor boy is troubled by never having danced in public a day in his life as well, but..."

"You can magic him up so he can dance really well, can't you uncle?" Rhaenys asks, eyes wide and practically sparkling in the light of the mage lanterns.

How do you reply?

OOC: We have not seen Rhaenys in a while and never interacting with Jon so I took the chance to do so here. She took quite well to him and Elia was kind, but that is just throwing the poor boy off more.

I don't think we need magic, just have to remind him that he is the imperial nephew, and as such above most high lords of westros.

Jon must be so confused about all this procedure that he thinks he has to follow but really he doesn't and all the power he now has but thinks he doesn't. He's gonna be a bitch to deprogram.

Damn you Catelyn! Giving us extra busy work!

For the record, I'm firmly set on The Imperium / Imperator.

[X] Tell her she has to respect Jons wishes if he does not want to dance with her. Even if she thinks his reasons are silly, it is not nice to make people do things against their will.
-[X] That being said, you will ask Tyene to have a chat with him about what bastardy does and does not mean at the Imperial court, and offering him dance lessons with some magical help if he changes his mind.

[X] Smile at your niece indulgently while patting her head. "Yes, obviously I can do that. But I won't force him to. How about you show him how little you think of other people's opinions by trying to do something together with him that he feels comfortable with?" You consider your next words carefully. "If that works out, you can probably eventually convince him to do practically anything you want, including dancing with you. Take it from a brother speaking with experience."
-[X] Politely offer Elia a dance while waiting for the others. "How do you feel?" You expect knowing her murderers, her son's murderers, are dead or soon to be dead, is a balm delivered not a moment too soon, but this is more important than revenge. "Are you happy here? I needn't ask if Rhaenys is, but you're not just putting on a satisfied front for her sake? I don't want you to force yourself to do... anything. Not after what you've been through."
-[X] Smile wryly. "Essentially: Is there anything I can do to help?"

Imperium and Imperator is good, I think the fact that we're more "Imperator of the Realm of Balance" than "Emperor of Mankind" helps.
