[X] Goldfish

So, what are we looking at if the Abolith calles in reinforcements?
Us breaking out various extreme methods of crowd control, including Merciful Dragon's Roar, Widened Invoke the Cerulean Sign, a Blinding Glory charm, etc.

And after that, we might need to get creative.

Cerulean Sign would affect Qyburn too. We need to be careful he's out of range or something.
We would have to take precautions, of course, namely making sure he isn't in range of the effect. I was originally thinking that we could drop a Spell Immunity spell on him, but upon review of Invoke the Cerulean Sign, I was reminded that it does not allow Spell Resistance, which makes it ineligible for that one.

@Goldfish, we've been using full Psionic / Magic transparency in the past, including using SR and PR interchangeably. Thus, Assay Spell Resistance would also boost Decerebrate.

I'd laugh so hard if for some reason the Chronomancer immediately goes down to a remote-lobotomy.

Well, it is not like the Squids would expect Qyburn and reasonably powerful Psionics-based attacks of his.

He has been under a Mindblabk the whole time before-during-and after his transformation, hasn't he?

And some effects do vary between Psionics and Arcane/Divine, starting with the fact that Richard can't Magebane shit that can do only Psionic magic, ending with that effects of Psionic and Arcane spells stack (see: Mindblanks).

I recon the Omnipath (and consequitively this Aboleth) didn't prepare anti-psionic shields when prepping to ambush a known Arcane caster :V

By now, they should. We made no attempt to hide him during the Omnipath and Shoggoth encounter.

Though, to be fair, they did not see much of his actual casting / manifesting either, since he was mostly doing support in that encounter. Might come as a surprise that he can hit hard enough to threaten a high-level Aberration. Especially if theyr usual racism kicks in and they treat him as some debased mongrel.
How pissed you think the Elder Brain will be after this?
Yes.

  • [X] Plan Slow-Roasted Chronomancer
    -[X] Aife cancels her Sign buff to set her Initiative result to 29 then targets the Chronomancer with a Quickened Chain Dispel (+24 Dispel check bonus) them casts Repulsion with a 30 foot radius (Caster level 24 to overcome SR, DC 34 Will save to bypass). She uses her Battlemagic Perception buff to Counterspell as a Free Action, if necessary.
    -[X] Viserys observes the effects of Aife's Chain Dispel and whether it successfully strikes the Chronomancer or is blocked (as if affected by Spellbane), and what effect it has on the creature's wards. If it is blocked by a Spellbane effect, he uses Wild Arcana to target is with Reaving Dispel (+20 Dispel check bonus, roll twice for best result). If it isn't blocked, but the Chronomancer's Greater Blink and other wards are still active, he uses Wild Arcana to target it with a Chain Dispel (+22 Dispel check bonus, roll twice for best result).
    --[X] Whether or not Viserys needed to use a Dispel, he then uses Miracle to cast a Quickened barred Forcecage to imprison the Chronomancer. If he did not need to use a Dispel, he follows up the Forcecage by using Wild Arcana to cast a Searing Agonizing Maximized Cleansing Conflagration while using all three charges from his ring (Caster level 28th to overcome SR [roll twice for best result], 234 Searing Fire damage per round for 14 rounds, DC 30 Fort save each round for half damage). He uses his Battlemagic Perception buff to Counterspell as a Free Action, if necessary.
    -[X] Lya cancels her Heightened Awareness buff to increase her Initiative result by +4, then casts Assay Spell Resistance and uses Wild Arcana to target the Chronomancer with a Dimensional Lock spell (31st caster level to overcome SR, +16 attack bonus to hit Touch AC) after Aife and/or Viserys have cast their Dispels. She uses her Battlemagic Perception buff to Counterspell as a Free Action, if necessary.
    -[X] Qyburn sets his Channel Vigor to the Mind aspect, casts Assay Spell Resistance, then uses Weave the Sources to target the Chronomancer with a Maximized Thanatopic Ennervation spell (Caster level 23 to overcome SR, Inflicts 4 Negative Levels w/no save, +14 attack bonus to hit Touch AC) using a Maximize Spell Metamagic gem and Decerebrate enhanced by Magical Manifesting (Manifested level 25 to overcome SR, DC 31 Fortitude save to avoid brain death).
    -[X] The Myrkdreki Twins prepare to act in defense of the group, readying actions to use Blood Wind spells to engage additional enemies at range [Blood Wind attacks: One bite +24 (2d8+10), 2 claws +24 (2d6+7), tail slap +22 (2d6+10), 2 wings +22 (1d8+7)]. If necessary, they use Brilliant Barrier charms or Wings of Cover to protect everyone, as the situation dictates.
    -[X] Richard and Oathkeeper remain vigilant against yet unseen threats, staying by Viserys side for now.

Part MMMDCCIV: In Fractured Moments
In Fractured Moments

Sometime in the Age of Heroes, Before the Rise of Valyria

Aife sheds the shell of mortality in an instant, the herald of a god unbidden in this hour. Power ripples through the air like a wave crashing against the shore. It is not enough. Divine powers strikes against eldritch might and the latter stands triumphant due to the work of minds beyond the Spheres of being, for all this monster seeks to twist the threads of time from within. A shiver goes down your spine, a word of unmaking almost too heavy even for your own will to bear... to break and to steal.

In a twitch of a glistening tentacle a band of bilestone 'shines' with colors the mortal eye was never meant to see and your magic dies just as Aife's had. Part of you, the part that is not plotting the enemy's death and cursing their tools and weapons, feels a sort of grudging admiration. Just as prepared and likely for far longer than you could ever know. Regardless, you will see its end.

From your mind into the world is forged a sphere of space folded on itself to trap the horror true. The thing simply flickers away, in what to eyes less sharp than yours would look to be a common arcane blink, but it's something else.

Three cold staring eyes fix upon the sea cat, floating serenely in air as though in the sea's embrace and with a nameless multi-tonal screech binds her among a thousand thousand fractal planes even as an obscene parody of a mouth opens in the enemy's stomach and spills out a scream more terrible than the depths of the Pit. Another spell gem shatters.

  1. Viserys -> 60 -> HotE Lost (30) + False Life Lost (17) -> Down to 209/222
  2. Ser Richard -> 60 -> Down to 151/211
  3. Lya -> 120 -> HotE Lost (30) + False Life Lost (12) + Tattoo Guardian damaged (39) -> Down to 70/109

Tears of blood gather in your eyes and to your left Ser Richard staggers slightly at the blow, though Lya who took the blunt of it shows herself bleeding but unbroken, her wards held. "I didn't ink this into my flesh with my own blood because it was fun," you remember her saying when you traced the arcane design along her back.

Though a ray of black power from Qyburn's hand glances of the horror's slime shrouded form and into the ether as it moves with prescient skill you are still certain you can end it. If nothing else you can send Ser Richard against it....

As though in answer to the thought the skein of the world breaks and one of the eaters of minds steps forth besides Qyburn wreathed in ethereal light, a staff of bone and squirming darkness in its clawed hands. "Die pretender!" it calls with hate beyond words. For the first time since his transformation the flesh-smith looks shaken but unbowed.

Space roils and twists in the Illithid's wake and Qyburn calls out the warning that you suspect the enemy had meant to silence: "A Custodian is coming, a Portal Keeper, and with it an army!" There is worry in those words and caution aplenty, but there is also another feeling you are not stranger to; greed, desire and little wonder. You had wanted one of the things for the Flesh-Forges ever since you had heard about them in the assault on the Orange Court.

But do you dare allow such a foe to take the field at the head of an army when you are already sore pressed by two powerful mages and whatever horrors they can conjure by their own powers?

What do you do?

[] Kill the enemies quickly before the gate can open and spill forth an army into this time-frozen realm
-[] Write in plan

[] Fight what may come and claim it

OOC: Ser Richard has not had his turn yet this round, he's holding his action. Very swingy dice this round by the way, first the chronomancer shuts down all attacks on himself and actually manages to take one of your characters off the field, and then the reinforcements roll 'squishy caster before the main body of the enemy'.

Ritual is still about to be finished the moment we're out of the still-time, right?

Then our priorities aren't changed by whatever's coming, whatsoever.
The Custodian is a nice piece, but it was there in MAs as a "look if any group shows itself with one", and not a Hero Interrupt led by Viserys from the month's start.

It just isn't worth the risk to try and get right now, imo.
The ritual being finished, and the Drowned God looted, is what our pay-off looks like.
...Well, that, and not fucking dying here.
Only half of Lya's damage goes to the Tatoo Guardian.
Lya: *Splat*
