We've talked to him before? Like, more than once. We have a perfectly good read on his personality.
Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart the Younger, Knight of the Winter Wolves, commands the Kriestov.
Ambitious: Ruprecht is eager to prove that he owes his position to more than nepotism.
With Ruprecht the Older, not with Ruprecht the Younger.

His Dramatis Personae is very sparse as is our knowledge of him.

You're still supporting the slave trade, and the price point is going to be set to enable the slave trade to acquire more slaves in the future. What you want to do is buy the slaves, then follow the slaver to his next meeting with the slave catchers, and kill every non-slave there and take all their stuff. Unfortunately, we are under a time and 'don't get the Expedition in trouble' crunch here, so at absolute best we might rob the slaver on the way out, preferably with the aid of Ranald's blessing to let us run into him outside the city gates.

In a spherical magical void maybe. Taking into account the circumstances we are is you should probably consider the people inf front of you not abstract institutions of slavery far too vast to influence.

So we can already claim the expedition as a fairly massive success, in that we rescued a Dwarf hold along with the surviving Dwarves.
I would argue no, unless we want lot of longbears grumbling about our inability to read a map. :V

edit-
Longbear, the larger, less common, and more ornery cousing of the longcat.
I am disappointed with you thread for not making fun of the typo yet :V

The QM clearly just got sick of yet another turn of "grimly defiant siege and mindfucks", and decided to switch genre.

With the greatest mindfuck of them all, but that's to be expected. QMs are creatures of Ulgu, after all.
Look, the QM rolled like twelve 100s in a row for dwarves, and half a dozen 1s for chaos.
That's just how dice roll sometimes.

Huh, I just realised my original vote does not quite align with my position, after I realised how dangerous attrition can be. Revoting.

To an extent, but any attempts at creating fog to induce these conditions are a zero sum game. The amount of effort you save from there being fog is at best equal to the amount of effort the fog saves you.
@BoneyM Is the second sentence typoed, or am I just misreading/misparsing it somehow? As written it looks like a pure tautology, but from the first sentence it seems like you meant something more like "The amount of effort you save from there being fog is at best equal to the amount of effort creating the fog costs you."

This argument kindof sounds like 'you hate capitalism and yet you participate by having a smartphone. Curious.'

Scene:

<Elf maidens / swordmasters of Hoeth silently crying in the market.>

<Sees a Grey Magister, implores her to buy them so they'll have a chance to escape being ritual fodder or something>

Mathilde be like: Lol, sorry I cant support institutionalized slavery! Dont worry though Ill probably get around to ending the slave trade in AP hell. 🙄

<Proceed to ignore the direct good she can do because it doesnt jive with her high horse ethics.>

... Sometimes the only good thing you can do is survive the system ya know?

Vlag quest must be so confused.

Maybe the QM decided that, just for the mindfuck to be effective, he would roll a single 1d1000 per turn and vow that outside help would come on the roll of 1000, so that there would always be a chance it would be real.

And what do you know, the QM eventually rolled it. Of course, secretly from the players. But the QM was a person of their word, so their word they kept.

You're absolutely right! My bad.

I still think we can be confident that his loyalties will lie with us for the same reasons, and because we're a bigwig in the Karak he lives in and will be returning to after this expedition, but I concede that we have not in fact formally met Ruprecht the Younger.
