... but they didn't?

They just pointed out that she knows Kislev has slave and is willing to work with them, so she obviously can work with those people when she needs too or ignore it when she has to.

When talking about this type of stuff, don't hyperbole what preople are saying. And calling them out for the hyperbolic and not what they said.

It leads to bad things for everyone.
I err don't really get this, no one has said anything sociopathic, so I don't know why you think you're at risk of accusing other posters of being such, although you're sort of already doing it by implication at this point.
It's a combination of statements like this:
Mathilde went to Praag and would have seen the slave markets there. She didn't even feel it was worth mentioning to herself it was something she cared so little about.
Directly stating that Mathilde is fine with slavery.

And this:
So what if she's not happy? Seriously we are going to the Chaos Wastes. She is going to see a lot of horrible stuff she can't do anything about. If she is so fragile as to find that unbearable she should have stayed in K8P (or maybe at the Colleges as a Perpetual given the nature of the world)
Which basically states finding slavery disgusting and letting it effect you emotionally- something that's otherwise known as possessing basic empathy- makes you 'fragile'.

Maybe I'm reading into these wrongly, but the impression has been made, and I'm bowing out to avoid any risk of rule breaking as much as I can. Because what I really want to say right now is... well, it involves much more emotion and shouting on my end. Which makes Al and DP the second and third people to actually get me to respond emotionally negatively to anything on these forums.

That was not my point. You can hate slavery, find it distasteful and evil yet still be able to look at it, especially if you are the sort of person who thinks they can take walking into the Wastes. Or in other words you have no business going any further north if you can't bear the sight of Uzkulak because what lies there is much much worse and it's probably tailored to be specifically awful for each and every viewer.

Ok so we should check out the Combes and the chaos dwarfs. Why because they are both potential enemies for the newly recovered Karan. Both have reason to want to see Karak Vlag destroyed and broken. Finding out what is going on in both could be worthwhile to making sure nothing happens till it is ready.

Your reading into it wrongly.

People just find things wrong Interesting.

You don't have to be ok with things in reality to not what to take the popcorn out when it comes to media.

That's why horror movies, phycological dramas and documentaries about the Holocaust are popular even if (because) their content is revolting.

I'm aware, and if this was talking about people's own reactions to what we'd see in Uz I'd be fine with it. The issue is that these were statements about how Mathilde should feel and react when she's seeing the actual real things.

I... don't agree with Redshirt.

Despite not voting for Uzkulak myself.

It's "marketed" as Barak Varr - Destro variant, and that's likely what it's going to be.

There will be some slavepens. There will also be magical artefacts, precious metals, exotic materials, obscure books, dangerous spices and reagents, powerful creatures, ordinary animals.

All for sale.

It won't be a hellish demonic gallery of woe.

It will be a morally-bankrupt world bazaar.

I am voting against it, not because Mathilde will be driven to outrageous moralistic acts of immediate crusade, but because I find it a shiny, superflous distraction.

Then again, that if we do go there, I can easily imagine there being a captive elf or something, that we'll feel a desire to free, whether by bying or stealing.

Which... I am not sure is smart or kind. We are going to a hell wasteland, and we have no manpower to spare for an escort.

...Am I the only one who wants to visit Uzkulak just so we can get that sweet-sweet better-than-canon BoneyM worldbuilding prose?

And books. 'Cause b o o k.

Only if we get caught. :V
This is not a temptation i want, or need, or trust myself and the thread with.

I do like to think we'd be cautious about choices taken.

Like sure at times the thread has gone YOLO but usually we've collectively been very cautious, fretting about everything from supplies to pocket fiefdom to learning necromancy. Heck, the thread has even been relatively reluctant to learn battlemagic despite us being able to stack +48 on first cast BM rolls.

It's not disingenuous you're just not looking at the greater context to see that visiting these places is important even if we have no selfish aims in mind. Both places could be the centre of a response aimed at our expedition or do you think Karak Vlag is the only place where enemy forces will realise something strange has happened with the high pass being made clear by the ice witches magics.

We should be investigating those places if for no other reason than to see if they're going to present an issue to the expedition the fact that we can also benefit from them in terms of pilfering resources is secondary.
I am looking at the greater context, and the greater context is that we have been told, in character, that neither of those groups will want to pick a fight with a group as large and well armed as ours and they would have to go out of their way to do so whereas Karak Vlag was perfectly positioned to ambush us and completely unavoidable.
and if not buy or pilfer resources for ourselves.
When even the people arguing that we can go there safely list "start trouble" as one of the likely actions it really doesn't convince me that this is a good idea.

t feels fundamentally hypocritical of Mathilde to object not to the existence of slavery but simply to the sight of it.
It feels extremely likely for players to focus on the problems in front of them. Slavery exists somewhere else? Probably not something to solve. A slave is being tortured in front of you in order to demonstrate his high pain tolerance to buyers? Time for shenanigans.

Actually, I don't even need to use arguments to be convincing. Players in this thread have stated that if they go there they intend to burn the place down.

I honestly trust our fellow voters more than that. Everyone here is aware we are playing warhammer. And we know what 'the middle of enemy teritory' means too.

Personally, I'm just curious to see if there's anything interesting in the combes and in Uzkulak. I think it's entirely likely we won't see or do anything that directly impacts the expedition, although in that case the knowledge that they aren't about to attack us is nice by itself.

We voted to join this expedition.
Thread can be very cautious at times, other times it will take huge risks, sometimes without realising the risks when it does.

I just think it's Lady Magister of Grey Order's job to know about such things, and gather information whenever opportunity presents itself.
No, we aren't burning anything down, because our top priority is to not attract undue attention to the Expedition. But Greys are the source of information of shady places of the world for Empire (and now some Dawi), so she kind of is obligated to learn what can be learned without compromising the Expedition.

Also: can I make a blanket comment?

This is Warhammer: it has the gross, cruel and horrific gushing out of its blotted ass.

That's why it's interesting.

It's that kind of setting, and I'm getting annoyed with comments that can be summed up as 'if you vote for this or want to see that, or let that happen, your a bad person in real life'.

Yes, the slavery dwarfs are bad, but their interesting.

Yes, voting to keep a skaven locked up for the rest of their live is in humane: but Mathy murders for a living, and frankly the only other option in universe was to break his neck and dump him in the river.

Yes, voting to 'end' someone and their unborn child is cruel: but the grey order are that type of cruel.

Etc etc.

What I'm getting at, is please stop trying to use real live morality to guilt peoples play style. This is a game, and some times people like to play the bad guy. That doesn't make them bad people.

And it's ok to tell someone who is trying to guilt you for how you want to play the game....

to go fuck themselves!

Got to continue the mysterious all knowing wizard act and for that we should go grab all the info we can.

Also if we're really lucky we'll start a slave rebellion or something.

While I'd certainly want to burn the place down, this would be neither the time nor place for it. My argument is basically we should only go there if that's our intent, and right now it's obviously not going to be.
